Review Summary

Monarque is widely celebrated as a premier dining destination in Montreal, offering a sophisticated experience that seamlessly blends classic French technique with modern culinary flair. Guests consistently praise the dual-concept layout, which features a lively, approachable brasserie alongside a more formal dining room, both characterized by elegant decor and an inviting open kitchen. While a few patrons occasionally noted inconsistencies in service or seasoning, the overwhelming majority of diners highlight the exceptional quality of signature dishes like the bone marrow with escargot, duck confit, and various tartares. The extensive wine list, expertly crafted cocktails, and professional, attentive staff contribute to an atmosphere that feels both upscale and welcoming for special occasions or casual treats. Despite some feedback regarding noise levels or the need for reservations, the restaurant is frequently described as a consistent, memorable, and high-value experience that sets a new benchmark for fine dining in the city.

One of my best restaurant experiences. The entree risotto mushroom was extremely tasty! À dinner to remember!

Superó nuestras expectativas. Sabíamos que es un buen restaurante, pero nos sorprendió para bien su carne, patatas fritas (de las mejores que he probado; casi adictivas) y tuétano. Además, el servicio es muy atento y amable y el local es muy agradable.

The trader Joe Truffle Mousse Pate tastes way much better than the foie gras served in Monarque. The bread was super burned & I tasted nothing but the bitter burning taste when spreading the foie gras.
The Napoleon dessert is the next level disappoinment. It's so dense & nothing to do with crispy. My jaw hurts by chewing on it.
The seafood stew is very fishy
The dry aged ribeye steak tastes nothing special.
A huge disappointment.

We celebrated my birthday here yesterday & had a truly delightful evening . The restaurant is beautiful with good acoustics . While it took a while to take our order, our waiter was friendly & very helpful & the food thereafter arrived in good time . The ravioli & Gougeres that we had to start were light & delicious . We had the lamb shoulder for two with vegetables & it was succulent , tender & delicious . My only criticism is that the desserts , the pavlova & ice cream sandwich had a store bought feel & flavour to them . A lovely evening .

Best meal we had in Montreal. This was in the brasserie, not the formal dining room. We were seated close to other diners on a fairly empty afternoon which seemed odd but then we realized it was so we could have a view of the kitchen which was very cool. Trout tartare with eggplant, miso, rice puffs & roe was magical. Steak frites was beyond- possibly the best frites we've ever eaten. Waitstaff were kind & helpful, & the wine was so good. Whole family was wowed.

Savoureux repas. Plats très bien exécutés. Assaisonnement à point. Excellent Chablis de Gilbert Picq.

A gastronomique expérience not to beisdef when in Montreal! A lovely interior, attentive service (thank you Serge for offering us an exquisite service at the bar!), & the food...outstanding! A bouillabaisse to die for as you might find only in Marseille, a Niçoise salad enriched with seared to perfection tuna, & an eclair with rhubarb & lavender mousse that delights your palate..
