My second time here however my first time trying the 3 course menu, smaller portions but each dish were beautiful & mix of textures! Our waiter was so polite & friendly, a must try restaurant if you want to show off to your family/friends visiting Montreal
Monarque was easily one of the strongest meals of the trip. The veal cheek was ridiculous, genuinely the clear standout & one of those dishes that makes the whole dinner worth it by itself. It was rich, tender, deeply savory, & had that slow-cooked comfort without feeling heavy or sloppy. 100/10 dish.
The cod croquettes were another highlight, crisp on the outside with a clean, salty bite, & the hummus was way better than a simple starter has any right to be. The side of mushrooms was also excellent, earthy & buttery in a way that fit the meal perfectly. The octopus was the only dish I had mixed feelings on. It was cooked beautifully, tender & clearly handled well, but the smoke was intense enough that it started to overpower everything else.
Service:
The meal felt polished & professional, with the kind of pacing you want from a nicer dinner without making the experience feel stiff.
Summary:
Monarque absolutely delivered. The veal cheek alone would bring me back, but the croquettes, hummus, & mushrooms all helped make this feel like a complete, memorable dinner. Only real knock was the overly smoky octopus, but even that was cooked perfectly. Overall, a standout.
Amazing food, wonderful staff & an overall great experience. The fois gras & bone marrow were over-top-delicious
Absolutely beautiful setting & quality of food & service is second to none.
Monarque was incredible from start to finish. The bone marrow was to die for, the pork chop was so tender I'm still thinking about it, & the French fries were honestly the best I've ever had.
The service staff was attentive, warm, & you could really tell they cared about the restaurant & the experience. The space is beautiful, & even though it was busy, we never felt it.
I can't wait to go back - I've been thinking about it since Friday.
Over rated. This restaurant is for visitors, not for gourmet food lovers.
On May 17, the manager on duty disrespected me & yelled at me in front of other guests because I asked to change my table.
I mistakenly booked the bar instead of a table, so I asked the hostess if we could move to a table. The hostess was helpful & offered me a table with a time limitation. I took a few minutes to confirm because I wanted to discuss it with my fiancée & didn't want to rush our dinner.
When we made the decision to move with the time limitation, I went to confirm the change with the hostess, but because she was on the phone, the manager jumped in. Since he had no context of the situation, he lost his composure & became aggressive & confrontational
He did move us to a table, but not without mocking & belittling me in the process. For obvious reasons, we had to leave the restaurant.
We visited again after 3 years & the quality of the food is exceptional as always. Try their bone marrow, crab tartare, dry aged ribeye.
