Review Summary

Monarque is widely celebrated as a premier dining destination in Montreal, offering a sophisticated experience that seamlessly blends classic French technique with modern culinary flair. Guests consistently praise the dual-concept layout, which features a lively, approachable brasserie alongside a more formal dining room, both characterized by elegant decor and an inviting open kitchen. While a few patrons occasionally noted inconsistencies in service or seasoning, the overwhelming majority of diners highlight the exceptional quality of signature dishes like the bone marrow with escargot, duck confit, and various tartares. The extensive wine list, expertly crafted cocktails, and professional, attentive staff contribute to an atmosphere that feels both upscale and welcoming for special occasions or casual treats. Despite some feedback regarding noise levels or the need for reservations, the restaurant is frequently described as a consistent, memorable, and high-value experience that sets a new benchmark for fine dining in the city.

TLDR: Dessert is really good, service is top notch. We went for desserts only, worried that we were not seated on a busy evening but they made accommodations for us!
As frequent travellers who dine around the world, I was really impressed with the desserts & the vibes of the place - def among the best French restaurants we've been to in Montreal/Canada.
Everyone was so nice with my daughter wearing a Disney princess dress & complimented her, & even went above & beyond & gave her an amazing experience.
Will come back for dinner next time we're in town. Thank you again for making the night a memorable experience for us 🤗

Had our anniversary dinner here on our trip to Montreal. We came early & were seated right away. Nice ambiance, not too loud for a dinner date. Friendly wait staff.
Food: Started off with the escargot over bone marrow & foie gras. Great presentation & nicely cooked escargot. Personal preference I like my escargot to be swimming in hot garlic oil. Escargot here was room temperature & placed on top of the bone marrow where you mix into the bone fat. Foie gras was standard.
Highlight of dinner was the entree!! We got the lamb & duck confit. Duck confit was cooked to perfection, buttery, crispy but melts in your mouth with the right amount of seasoning.
Dessert we got the passion fruit pavlova. It was nice & light after a heavy meal.
All in all I had a wonderful dinner experience.

The service was so-so at first, no one check on us or come to take our order, until I made eye contact with someone in a white shirt & seems to be the manager, the complimentary bread & the salad that comes with the grilled octopus tasted good (not the octopus!! It just taste plain, even with the herbs & sauce), the other main & appetitzer were so-so, not too bad but definitely not impressive, however the main problem is the fish & seafood bouillabaisse, the soup was good, rich in flavour, but the shrimp & fish WERE NOT COOKED THOROUGHLY!!!!

I told the waitress the issue & asked if they can cook more because it's still raw, when they brought back my food, a part of the shrimp tip is still grey (though the greyish area is smaller) but the soup is burning hot!! & the waitress seems to be unhappy about my request, after we finished our main, she threw the dessert menu at us, mumbling if we would like some dessert & LEFT!! Since then, no one checked on us until I asked the waiter who was cleaning the table next to us to check our bill.

I checked other reviews about racism against Asian & just wondering if that's racism. Anyway, wont come back again!

Seating: Bar (Brasserie)

Atmosphere: 10/10 | Overall feel of the restaurant feels as you'd expect it to be.

Service: 10/10 | Paced properly when ordering entrées, mains & dessert. Extremely pleasant staff, if you have a problem just ask.

Food: 10/10 | No issues here, had the bone marrow with burgundy snails as an entrée, Lamb sirloin (Recommended by Barman) as main & the Pavlova as dessert. Dish sizes are surprisingly decent (entrée + main) & I was too full for dessert.

Overall 10/10 | Money Worth

Had a wonderful experience our first night dining at in Montreal at the Monarque. Our waiter was fabulous he was very welcoming & kind, explaining the menu & drinks in English to us. We had the halibut special & chicken. Both were cooked to perfection & normally we do not ever clean our plates, but tonight we did. We also had dessert, which again was delicious. Their drinks were also excellent, the Monarque & the Caravane, the Monarque was more savory. We were tempted to order the bone marrow but the couple next to us were devouring theirs & it was a large portion & we didnt think we would be able to eat everything. So we will try that in our next visit. We dined early around 5 with no wait, but by 6pm if was almost full. I would highly recommend dining here.

Absolutely stellar & unforgettable dinners / lunches in'la salle a manger' of Monarque. Carefully thought & masterly executed, each dish brought its magic. The tuna tartare with the foie gras custard & bison tartare were phenomenal. The ris de veaux was equally fantastic. The pintage + agnolotti & bison steak with bourbon sauce were great as well. But clearly the star of the night was the shiso apple with gin & celery dessert...Super balanced, original in texture & flavors, it was probably the best dessert I have ever tasted in my life! Added to the palate experience is the impeccable service by Gustav & Stephanie from the beginning to the end. What a blast!

I have now been to Monarque 10+ times & it never disappoints. Consistency & excellence in the kitchen & on the floor are trademarks of this always packed restaurant.
