Review Summary

Monarque is widely celebrated as a premier dining destination in Montreal, offering a sophisticated experience that balances classic French technique with modern culinary flair. Guests consistently praise the high-quality ingredients and expertly executed dishes, with highlights such as the bone marrow with snails, duck confit, and various tartares frequently mentioned. While the atmosphere is described as sleek, beautiful, and vibrant, some diners note that the space can become quite noisy, and the lighting in the brasserie section may feel overly bright. The service is largely considered polished, attentive, and professional, though a few visitors have encountered inconsistencies in pacing or attentiveness depending on the seating area or the time of their visit. Despite minor critiques regarding portion sizes, specific dish saltiness, or dessert variety, the majority of diners consider it a standout establishment that is well worth a visit for both casual brasserie meals and formal dining experiences.

Had our anniversary dinner here on our trip to Montreal. We came early & were seated right away. Nice ambiance, not too loud for a dinner date. Friendly wait staff.
Food: Started off with the escargot over bone marrow & foie gras. Great presentation & nicely cooked escargot. Personal preference I like my escargot to be swimming in hot garlic oil. Escargot here was room temperature & placed on top of the bone marrow where you mix into the bone fat. Foie gras was standard.
Highlight of dinner was the entree!! We got the lamb & duck confit. Duck confit was cooked to perfection, buttery, crispy but melts in your mouth with the right amount of seasoning.
Dessert we got the passion fruit pavlova. It was nice & light after a heavy meal.
All in all I had a wonderful dinner experience.

Had lunch here on a Tuesday around noon & the place was packed! So I guess that's a testament to how good this restaurant is, which I can confirm, it was! The foie gras parfait was creamy & delicious. The bone marrow with snails was grilled well. The beef tartare had exceptional flavor. The salmon with zucchini sauce was buttery & so flavorful my toddler ate it all up. Old fashioned drink was nice & strong, & not too sweet. Service & decor inside was everything you would expect from a fine dining experience. Love the open kitchen concept & display of dry aging meats. Definitely a must try when in downtown Montreal!

Perfecto! Oysters, tuna tartare special, escargot on bone marrow, lamb shoulder too. All were excellent. Our bartender, Serge, was pleasant & professional. We recommend if in Montreal.

I love this restaurant from ambience, service to food. My table was served by 4-5 waiters/ waitress. A gentleman served water, another one served us wine, they let me taste my wine to make sure I'm satisfied with my choice before serving it! I picked Vin de Franz, white wine as I had seafood bouillabaisse for main course. We had a bone marrow & French snails cooked with red wine for appetizer, it was excellent. The bouillabaisse was amazing too! I will definitely come back for duck confit & lamb shoulder. Really highly recommended!

Monarque was incredible from start to finish. The bone marrow was to die for, the pork chop was so tender I'm still thinking about it, & the French fries were honestly the best I've ever had.

The service staff was attentive, warm, & you could really tell they cared about the restaurant & the experience. The space is beautiful, & even though it was busy, we never felt it.

I can't wait to go back - I've been thinking about it since Friday.

We visited again after 3 years & the quality of the food is exceptional as always. Try their bone marrow, crab tartare, dry aged ribeye.

Seating: Bar (Brasserie)

Atmosphere: 10/10 | Overall feel of the restaurant feels as you'd expect it to be.

Service: 10/10 | Paced properly when ordering entrées, mains & dessert. Extremely pleasant staff, if you have a problem just ask.

Food: 10/10 | No issues here, had the bone marrow with burgundy snails as an entrée, Lamb sirloin (Recommended by Barman) as main & the Pavlova as dessert. Dish sizes are surprisingly decent (entrée + main) & I was too full for dessert.

Overall 10/10 | Money Worth

Had a wonderful experience our first night dining at in Montreal at the Monarque. Our waiter was fabulous he was very welcoming & kind, explaining the menu & drinks in English to us. We had the halibut special & chicken. Both were cooked to perfection & normally we do not ever clean our plates, but tonight we did. We also had dessert, which again was delicious. Their drinks were also excellent, the Monarque & the Caravane, the Monarque was more savory. We were tempted to order the bone marrow but the couple next to us were devouring theirs & it was a large portion & we didnt think we would be able to eat everything. So we will try that in our next visit. We dined early around 5 with no wait, but by 6pm if was almost full. I would highly recommend dining here.

If you get the chance to book a table here, do it!
We ate in the brasserie & had a wonderful evening of delicious food & scrumptious cocktails.

The bone marrow & snails starter was particularly delicious, along with the lamb rump main. The bouillabaise was superb- I could have happily eaten a loaf of bread with the rouille, it was so tasty! We rounded the night off by sharing a maple & pecan éclair.

The service was great, & food was exceptionally prompt given it was a Friday night!

Our only feedback to improve on an already great experience would be to serve your table bread warm with slightly softer butter.
