Monarque is widely celebrated as a premier dining destination in Montreal, offering an exceptional experience defined by its elegant atmosphere, professional service, and high-quality French cuisine. Guests frequently praise the restaurant for its vibrant, dual-concept layout, which features both a lively brasserie and a more formal dining room, each providing delicious, well-executed dishes crafted with meticulous attention to detail. Monarque was absolutely phenomenal. We ended up eating there twice during our 5-day vacation. The tomato stracciatella salad was exquisite- I could not stop thinking about it for days. The staff was very knowledgeable about celiac disease & nearly everything could be made gluten free. I really enjoyed the Nordic shrimp salad. The cocktails were also exceptional. The second time we went, we sat at the bar, which was a fascinating experience. The bartender made drinks with the ingenuity of an artist & the precision of a surgeon. He was very kind & gave us tastes of some of the ingredients. We could not recommend Monarque more & cannot wait to come back during our next trip to Montreal!

If you get the chance to book a table here, do it!
We ate in the brasserie & had a wonderful evening of delicious food & scrumptious cocktails.

The bone marrow & snails starter was particularly delicious, along with the lamb rump main. The bouillabaise was superb- I could have happily eaten a loaf of bread with the rouille, it was so tasty! We rounded the night off by sharing a maple & pecan éclair.

The service was great, & food was exceptionally prompt given it was a Friday night!

Our only feedback to improve on an already great experience would be to serve your table bread warm with slightly softer butter.

An absolute amazing experience. My husband & I sat at the bar, enjoyed a couple starters & some cocktails. The white asparagus starter really stole the show. So delicious. The bone marrow & escargots, was exquisite & very rich (in a good way)
The octopus was cooked to perfection & paired so well with the ginger carrot puree.
The Pistache cocktail was the number one best cocktail I've ever had in my life (12 years of working in restaurants )
Beautifully balanced., such a complex cocktail created with pure harmony. I will dream of this cocktail.
We then continued our culinary journey with the pan seared tuna & braised lamb. We left our plates clean. Everything was delicious.
We ended our night with the pavlova & crème brûlée dessert. My husband, not really a fan of desserts in general, practically licked his plate clean.
The highlight of our night, was Serge the Barman. What an amazing, kind & gentle man. Truly gives the definition of'gentleman'
Extremely attentive & knowledgeable about his menu & wines.
We will certainly come back for the food, & definitely stay for Serge.

10000/10. Would recommend to anyone.
Thank you.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. The Pistache was one of my favorite cocktails I've had. Highly recommend.

We visited for the Valentine's Day fixed-price menu & unfortunately had one of the worst dining experiences we've had. Maybe if you go there for normal dinner it would be good, but this is the first time I had such a bad experience to the point of leaving the restaurant feeling unwell.

To start with the positives: the meats & fish were actually cooked very well. The veal was perfectly tender, & the fish was flaky without being overcooked. The servers were also attentive - our water was always refilled promptly, & the staff were polite. The drinks were excellent as well! I would genuinely consider coming back just for cocktails.

That said, the overall four-course experience fell short for us. Nearly every dish was overwhelmed by sauce that was either aggressively sour or overwhelmingly salty, to the point that it completely overpowered the well-cooked proteins. The flavors were so intense & unbalanced that we felt physically nauseous by the end & rushed out of the restaurant to get back to our hotel. Also, the table next to us ordered the bass, & I love fish, but it smelt so unpleasantly fishy that I was turned off.

There was also a grapefruit & orange'house soup' served before the main dish, intended to refresh the palate. It was odd to us because there was also what tasted like a lemon sherbet in the soup. The bitterness & acidity felt harsh & actually triggered acid reflux for both of us. Plus, the transition from a warm appetizer to a very cold soup & then back to a warm main course was very off-putting.

On top of everything, portion sizes were surprisingly small. I understand that tasting menus are structured differently, & I've enjoyed similar experiences at other restaurants without issue. This was the first time I've left a multi-course meal hungrier than when I arrived.

One additional disappointment was the seating. Even though the restaurant was about half empty when we arrived, we were seated right next to the only other occupied table. We asked to move as soon as we sat down, but were told that no other tables were available. About 10 minutes later, a couple was seated next to us & made the same request & were accommodated. There may have been a reason for this, but from our perspective, it left a poor impression.

Perhaps the regular menu is better however, for a special Valentine's dinner, I would say don't waste your time & money.

Amazing. We sat at the bar & saw how each cocktail was made. Food impeccable. Fun time.
Tocayo drink is my favorite.
