About

Mon Lapin emphasizes a seasonally focused menu centered on fresh seafood and locally sourced ingredients prepared with technical precision. The culinary approach highlights natural flavors through refined, modern interpretations of regional bistro traditions. Produce is sourced directly from independent growers, ensuring that every plate reflects the current harvest with absolute clarity. The interior design favors an understated aesthetic that prioritizes social interaction and unadorned architectural honesty. Beverage selections are curated to complement the acidity and texture of the fish-forward menu items throughout the year. Patrons encounter a distinct commitment to ingredient transparency and sustainable sourcing practices within a communal, lively atmosphere. This establishment consistently delivers a focused culinary experience that prioritizes the integrity of raw components over complex, multi-layered preparation techniques.

Review Summary

Mon Lapin is widely celebrated as a standout dining destination in Montreal, often lauded for its warm, unpretentious atmosphere and exceptional hospitality. Many guests highlight the creative, seasonal menu, specifically noting the scallop sandwich and various pasta dishes as memorable highlights, while also praising the extensive and thoughtfully curated wine list. While the restaurant frequently lives up to its prestigious accolades, experiences can vary; some patrons find the small plates pricey or the flavors polarizing, and others have noted that the intimate, bustling seating can feel crowded. Overall, the service is consistently recognized as knowledgeable and attentive, contributing to a vibrant, social experience that makes many visitors eager to return.

Not sure what the whole hype / difficulty to reserve is about. Food is bland at best & alcohol over priced. Never was much a fan of French/quebecois food, just bland flavors, salty & fatty. But if that's your thing, go for it.

What they do here best is their ability to push & sell you drinks through'free sampling'. If you sit at the bar like I did, the barmaid is incredible at making you feel welcome & serve you free samples of wine so the'appetite' to spend opens up. It's a brilliant sales tactic.

Great atmosphere though. 300$ bill for 2 main dishes, 1 entree, 2 desserts & 6 drinks. Mediocre imo.

We ordered everything on the menu unfortunately half the things were wayyy too salty or stasted weird. Mostly all the meat dishes. I particularly didn't like the uni with sabayon sauce.. it tasted.. off

Service depends. My friends said Julie was great but our server of the night was a little bit cold & never talked to us. Busgirl was rude & kept wanting to take our plates away despite we only ate half of the food.

Seafood & veggies are great though.

Overly pretentious, lackluster on everything else. Way too many other bistros in Montreal do better than this.
1st resto in Canada is it a joke ?

It's alright, nothing special. Not the best in Canada, Pompui across the street is better.

Service impeccable.

Exceptional meal! The food was very creative, thoughtful & delicious. It did a great job showcasing local ingredients. The service was on par to Michelin places we've been - very attentive & warm. Great wine. Cost atmosphere on a snowy winter night. Would definitely visit.

Expectations were extremely high given all the recent accolades & I have to say I was ready to be disappointed. Marco, Jessica, Vanya, & their wonderful team blew my expectations out of the water.

Dishes like the foie cookies with habanada jelly, & the conserve leeks with fermented chips & mussel mayo are nostalgic in flavour, but creative & fun in their execution.

Their wine list is nothing short of impressive, with many references you'd have a hard time finding outside of a passionate collectors personal cave. Prices are also very reasonable by the glass relative to most wine bars around.

Atmosphere is what you hope for with Montreal dining; far from pretentious but very attentive & warm.

We left having gone through half the menu, & I did not feel heavy or overly full at all.

Merci Mon Lapin & until next time!
