Review Summary

Mon Lapin offers a vibrant and festive atmosphere that many diners find to be a highlight of their Montreal experience. The restaurant is widely celebrated for its creative, seasonally inspired menu, with many guests praising the unique flavors of signature dishes like the scallop sandwich and a variety of expertly prepared seafood. The service is frequently highlighted as a standout feature, with knowledgeable and attentive staff who often provide exceptional wine pairings from an extensive list. While opinions on portion sizes and certain flavor profiles vary, many visitors appreciate the focus on high-quality, local ingredients and the overall refined yet unpretentious energy that makes the establishment a memorable destination for food enthusiasts.

We were disappointed in our second visit to Mon Lapin. Like others have mentioned below, we were eager & excited to try new dishes from a kitchen that has been ranked one of the best in North America. We ordered our favourite scallop sandwiches, but the quality has clearly gone down. It was no longer light, fluffy, flavourful, or served hot. The'tartare de boeuf' with bitter greens was too salty & served on its own (no bread or crackers). Although the service was friendly, they certainly put'pressure' on guests to order, finish, & move on from their meals. For example, we were so shocked when we were served our dinner wine (full glasses not just a tasting) while still finishing our clearly half full cocktails! It is very sad, but we likely will not be returning.

Overrated & disappointing. Despite its high reputation (such as being named among North America's Top 5), it fell far short of expectations in both food & service. There are far better restaurants to explore in Montreal, so I cannot recommend this place.

We ordered the sourdough bread, scallop sandwich, tuna crudo, fresh pasta, porchetta, & the Mille-feuille for dessert.

Bread: Served cold & was tough rather than chewy.
Scallop Sandwich: While good for the first few bites as their signature dish, it became overwhelmingly heavy & greasy by the end. More importantly, we found an object inside, which appeared to be a piece of scallop shell.
Fresh Pasta: This was the highlight of the meal, but its flavor profile & depth were quite ordinary, leaving little lasting impression.
Porchetta: The crackling was crispy, but the meat itself wasn't cooked particularly well, & the sauce was mediocre.
Dessert: The ice cream sandwich was okay, but the other one was overwhelmingly sweet & salty without much balance.

The service was generally fine-adequately friendly & attentive to our needs. When we brought up the issue with the shell in the scallop sandwich, the staff apologized & comped the dish, which we appreciated.

It is really rare for me to leave a bad review, but I think people need to adjust their expectations. We do not understand the hype. The food was good but not out of the extraordinary for this price range. The portions were generous, which we liked. The cocktails were uninteresting. They suggested the tasting menu before we even had the time to look at the menu.

We did not enjoy the service : The service was condescending. The margret de canard was quite literally raw. We informed the server & ask if they could do something about it because we both couldn't eat so raw. The server seemed upset & said that this is how it's properly cooked & that it's also how steaks are cooked, & that if we eat steak we should be able to eat this. I don't feel this kind of patriarchal attitude should be served especially at 400$ for 2. They proposed us another take at the duck (which was nice), we ended up turning it down. I thought they were not bringing out anything anymore, but then they did bring out a crudité plate with a few chicken nuggets to replace the duck. We did enjoy it, but it also felt like they were making fun of us for'not knowing what a good meat should taste' (it was children's food albeit gourmet).

We cook duck magrets on the regular & to be honest, it can be buttery without being raw. It's not duck carpaccio. It's okay that there's one piece of meat that is a bit outside of the norm but it felt like it was our fault if we didn't enjoy it. Also I had bad diarrhea immediately after, so…

Our highlight was the scallop sandwich. It was absolutely phenomenal. The other plates seem a bit under salted.

I was really looking forward to eating here & both me & my mom were very impressed. All the staff were very attentive, kind & the food was the most unique food Ive ever had. I really enjoyed their famous scallop sandwich & surprisingly the fish pasta they had that day. The leeks & chips was also so tasty. I would not get the pate again as it was a little overpriced for what you got & I feel it was not worth it. Otherwise the meal ended with the buckwheat cake which was also very very good. I would come back here again to try some other dishes as well!

I read this five for everything because the environment was so chill, but the food was amazing & heartfelt. I really like the service & there was never an empty glass of water or from my parents why our server was super nice & helped us pick a drink for every single course & describe it so well in English I actually got you in American even though she was French. It was a really nice restaurant & they had at least one dish for every kind of person & that's why I really loved this restaurant. Also, the chocolate ice cream sandwich was so good

I chose Mon Lapin for my birthday dinner, & it did not disappoint. The entire experience was outstanding - service, food, & ambiance. ROSE specifically deserves a special shout out. She is incredibly knowledgeable about the foods & wines, full of fun energy, gracious, & hospitable to the point of wishing me a happy birthday numerous times. Such a vibey individual, & an excellent mixologist. Everyone I interacted with made me feel welcome to the point I stayed for three hours to immerse myself in the experience. The food is fresh, organic, & satisfying without making one feel stuffed. Definitely farm / coast to table. The razor clams with spicy breadcrumbs, barbecue cucumbers with raw baby shrimp, pasta tossed with shredded cod & zucchini, & the halibut with nettle pesto were all fantastic. The ice cream sandwich was the perfect dessert portion. The wines are natural & delicious. The gin cocktail - fantastic. Even the owner is present & engaged - conversing with patrons behind the bar, throughout the floor, checking in with her servers - the staff is 10/10! Warm, inviting, thoughtful, & they seem to truly enjoy working together. Mon Lapin certainly lives up to its hype, & I highly recommend it!

I just finished the most wonderful dinner at Mon Lapin. I was lucky enough to snag a seat at the bar as a walk in, really happy they were able to accommodate me without a reservation. The bartender, Rose, walked me through the menu & various options they had, I ended up going with their tasting menu. Rose also made great cocktails, had phenomenal wine recommendations, & was so much fun to talk to. She was a big part of why this dinner was so enjoyable.

Each course was brought out & explained by staff & the pacing between courses was just right. My meal included:

- Confit leeks with potato chips & smoked mussel mayo
- Razor clam with spicy breadcrumbs & littleneck clam with green onions, horseradish, & parm
- The iconic crispy scallop sandwich with ramp mayo
- Sea bass crudo with capers, radish, shallot, microgreens, & brown butter
- Ricotta dumplings/ravioli with motels & radish greens in a creamy butter sauce
- Halibut in nettle cream sauce with nettle chips
- Duck two ways with white & green asparagus, strawberry sauce, an herby asparagus sauce, & jus
- An ice cream sandwich with almond & sesame cookies, olive oil ice cream, & fennel pollen
- A fudgey chocolate cake with amaro & coffee sauce

The tasting menu ended up being 9 courses for $110 CAD, a very good price in my opinion, especially considering the quality, time, & care put into each dish. There was not a single dish I disliked or thought was just okay, each one was unique & so good. Service was excellent & the cocktails & wine were delicious. I have nothing but good things to say, I've never been more pleased with a place that I went to on a whim.

This was the highlight of my trip hands down. If I ever make it back to Montreal, this will be my first stop.

One of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. Every single dish that we ordered was excellent. The scallop sandwich was life changing. The wine selection was comprehensive, unique & well priced. The service was truly superb, friendly, knowledgeable & attentive. Certainly a highlight in Montreal.
