This restaurant is delicious, well-organized & lively. The finest steak, delicious seafood, pasta, varied appetizers & the place has great music! Open windows make it feel like a terrasse but the temp is cool inside. I can't say enough about the wine list. Chenelle gave us some great food recommendations & was very knowledgeable about wine, champagne & prosecco. An excellent manager watches over all the small details. I ended up there by accident but I will certainly go again on purpose!Voir plus

We went here twice in two weeks because it was so good. The first time we were served by Sarah & the second by Valter. Superb service, faultless. The sommelier was also excellent & provided great advice for our wine selections. The food is outstanding - first time we all had steak & the second the seafood platter. Food was faultless & super fresh. Great ambience, extensive wine list, amazing service. One of the best restaurants in Montreal from our experience.Voir plus
On Tuesday July 9, 2024, my wife & I had a reservation at the restaurant Mechant Boeuf in Vieux Montreal. We went there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had a great table right in front of the windows, which were open as the weather was so warm & pleasant. The service by our waiter Nolan was nothing short of perfect! His wine suggestion went perfectly with our supper. We had a calamari appetizer which was crispy & hot. We both had ribeye steaks which were cooked exactly how we requested, served hot & they were delicious & tender!! We took a side of French Fries with one & a green salad with the other. The salad had a really tasty dressing!! A side of mushrooms, which were out of this world, was the perfect accompaniment! The steaks came with a nice selection of vegetables. We found that the restaurant had suffered a bit with food quality & service following Covid (as did many). I am happy to state that under the leadership of the General Manager Laurent Plantavin, they are back to the high standard of quality that had made Mechant Boeuf one of our go-to restaurants for special occasions with family & friends. A mixed review. The servers were nice, but we had almost an hour wait for our starters, or any bread. The waiter apologised, but it was a very long wait. The worst part was that they also hadn't taken our starter plates away when our main courses arrived, so there was a scramble to take those plates away, to make room for our main plates. Surprised at the lack of communication between them. Tables were too small for 4 people - we didn't have enough room. We also then had to wait a long time to order dessert, & then even longer for our dessert plates to be taken away. My steak was nice but I ordered medium & it was cooked well-done, which was disappointing. I was so hungry by that point I didn't want to wait for it to be re-cooked. For $60+ a steak, I expect it to be cooked how I ordered... I was disappointed as it has the potential to be excellent.Voir plus

Honestly the dollar sign indicator for this restaurant is wrong, this restaurant should indicate at least 3 dollars signs &/or above... The ambiance was good & the food tasted ok, however the quantity is very limited. I took the NY steak for 52$ & half was fat, mash potatoes were 2 bites only & I only had 3 vegetables (literally 1 tiny broccoli, 1 tiny black carrot & 1 tiny other which I don't recall)... For the price they charge, you would expect a satisfying meal... Also had the dumplings (14$ for 6) which honestly was the most satisfying of the entire meal. Alcohol is also expensive, 1 glass, the cheapest on the menu at 21$... Took over an hour to get the meal I recommend looking at the menu prices before making a reservation. & to finalize, there was a table with a woman & six kids screaming... One would believe at the prices they charge, they would allow specific clientele so everyone could enjoy their evening (Don't get me wrong, I'm a father as well, but this ain't St-Hubert...) The only reason I'm giving 2 Stars is that the waiter deserves one because she was ok I hope this review helps whoever reads it.Voir plus

My mother & I came here from the US for my 31st birthday & stumbled upon this great steak house ! Jerome was our server & he was amazing! the mashed potatoes came out a little cold & he accommodated us with a fresh batch with a little extra something on top, an egg yolk! it was delish & if we ever come back to visit canada we will definitely be coming back here. thank you Mechant Boeuf & thank you Jerome!Voir plus
We celebrated our anniversary here last night. They have valet service which was top notch. The restaurant & waitress were impeccable. The food was cooked to perfection as they have a new chef from London who is quite frankly a culinary specialist!!! The Caesar salad was the best we have ever had ( not garlicky ) & the capers were roasted. The steak was cooked medium to perfection with an exquisite presentation. My wife & I were treated with courtesy & professionalism. This was all thanks to the amazing server Emilie who went above & beyond to make our night memorable. 5 stars all the way. Started our friday night here for my Bachelor party weekend, We order a few appetizers the calamari was perfect as we're the dumpling, the cocktails we had were perfectly made my whiskey sour was made to perfection, for our main we opted for a 47oz porterhouse & a 36oz Kansas for everyone to share, the steak was absolutely amazing cooked to perfection. When it came to the sides & im not one to really comment on sides because most places are good, but when it came to there potato puree it was amazing the flavours the creaminess when mixing in the egg yolk absolutely delicious. As for the staff from the moment we walked in & were seated 5star all the way very knowledgeable about there for menu & drinks wine selection was very good, the attention to detail was spot on, all the staff made sure everyone was enjoying themselves the manager was very hands on walking around & speaking to the customers making sure every customer was happy & that everything was to there liking. Not sure what else I can say from the front of the house to the back it was perfect compliments to the chef aswell as all the staff everyone plays a crucial role to make every customers experience just perfect & you hit it spot on, My wedding is June 15th 2024, & next year on June 15th 2025 we will be definitely traveling from ottawa to enjoy a dinner & drinks for our first anniversary. & with how perfect everything is I hope to continue that tradition for years to come on our anniversary.Voir plus
This is one of the best restaurants in Old Montreal. The atmosphere was great, the service was great, & the steaks were incredibly good . However, the waitress tried to charge us an extra bottle of wine. We wanted to try white wine from Sicily, but they didn't have it in stock, so we have opted for French wine instead. When she put the bill on a table , it was two bottles - the one we drank & the other, that was not available. When I asked why she had charged us for two instead of one, she replied that THEY ( who "they" she didn't specify ) put it on the bill, even though she was the only one serving us. Is it an "honest" mistake ? Could be.... Only because food was super good, she still got 20% tips. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat, but it is worth to double check your bills at the end....Voir plus
So much potential & yet such a disappointment. I rarely write negative reviews but this experience was unfortunately quite deserving of one. The establishment & atmosphere are lovely, so we were expecting a great food experience to go with it. As you can see from the pictures, the presentation was gorgeous. But I was thoroughly shocked at how tough my steak was when cutting into it. To top it off, although it looked perfectly cooked at medium rare, it ended up tasting & feeling like it was well done. The potato puree was like a heavy glue & for some reason, was served on top of most of the vegetables. It's only after taking a few bites that I noticed I had more vegetables on my plate. My partner's steak was a little more tender but thoroughly flavorless. The best part of the meal was the oysters. They were perfect. But really, what topped it all off was the disappointingly bad service provided by Emilie. It started off well enough, but when I politely asked for an extra minute to decide what to pick, this seemed to have made her mad. She threw up her hands & walked away. My partner & I looked at each other, quite confused as to why that didn't go over well. The rest of the "service" was a combination of almost non existent & cold. Considering we were about to pay over $200 for a bad food experience, this really made me angry. Sadly, I definitely can't recommend Le Méchant Boeuf.Voir plus

All our orders were cooked to perfection, & every bite was so savory. The sauce that our waitress recommended for our steak was amazingly delicious. Me & my husband we're there celebrating our anniversary, They offered us two glasses of prosecco, but we had to say no because we didn't want to mix our alcohol so they offered us our dessert instead, that was nice of them to do that. Stopped in here for dinner on a cold rainy night & had a fabulous meal! Delicious salmon & the other member of my party had an excellent steak. The atmosphere was wonderful & service was good. We wanted to have dinner as part of Happening Gourmand - 3 courses for $49. The appetizers & the main were very delicious. As appetizers we had spinach soup & heart of palm tartare. Both were tasty but spinach soup was on the spicier side if you are sensitive. We both got steak & fries as main. Steak was cooked to perfection. It was tender & easy to eat. I am not big on sauces so I preferred having the meat only with butter. For desserts we had one of each. I would say desserts are not on the same level as appetizers & main. The brownie was dry & not warm. Profiteroles felt like they waited in the fridge before served. I would probably order an extra appetizer & skip the dessert next time. We also had the Feeling Fresh cocktail without syrup & it was so refreshing! I highly recommend. The ambiance was very nice. We loved the lights & table lamps on each table. The staff was friendly & service was very fast. We didn't have long pauses in between the courses which I appreciate. Overall, I will definitely go back to try other things on the menu. Déception ! Arrivé avec réservation à 20h . Commandé des cocktails mais ça a pris du temps pour venir à notre table! Même si j'ouvre le livre de recettes j'arriverais plus vite que ça ! Pas de pain sur la table, Commandé & oublié de servir ! Les plats sont secs (steak) avec des vieilles frites, le poulet est fade & pas assez de goût, les gnocchis sont trop molles! La sauce au poivre est comme une vinaigrette comparée avec celle de ma voisine?! Pas de sel & poivre aux tables! Pas de demande si on a besoin du poivre. Rizzotto au homard a une mèche de cheveux long, le maître d'hôtel s'est présenté pour s'excuser! Particule dans un verre d'eau. Le service est très lent pourtant il n'y a que 6 tables! C'est là qu'on a demandé du pain & c'est le maître d'hôtel qui nous a amené ! Pas de remplissage des verres d'eau & il faut les appeler. Le garçon est gentil & poli sauf qu'il n'a pas de crédibilité par ses manques! Très déçu & je ne veux pas comparer avec les autres restos voisins! Est-ce que le Happy Gourmand a nui aux plats & le service? Chose certaine qu'on n'y retournera pas. Déconseiller.Voir plus

We went there for a family lunch of 6 + a baby. We didn't know that some pieces of meats were only available for dinner but it was well explained by the waiter. We had flank steaks, filet mignon & ribs. All tasted good but we had to wait for 20 minutes for the filet mignon whereas the flank steaks were served in no time. L'endroit est magnifique, l'ambiance feutrée & chaleureuse est parfaite pour un bon repas romantique. La musique tendance & le bar nous offrent par ailleurs l'opportunité d'y passer une soirée branchée entre amis. Le service est impeccable. Si je pouvais mettre 6 étoiles je le ferais à ce niveau! Les mocktails sont vraiiiiment bon! À essayer 🍹 J'ai été un peu déçu toutefois en ce qui concerne la cuisine. Nous avons tenté la table d'hôte à prix réduit pendant l'événement Happening gourmand du Vieux Montréal & nous avons trouvé que nos assiettes reflétaient malheureusement la réduction. Les saveurs étaient toutefois là, c'était goûteux & les cuissons parfaites, sauf pour les frites de mon steak frites où elles étaient un peu dures, comme cuites puis réchauffées 😑. Mon contre-filet était malheureusement possédé par une bonne grosse veine de gras dur & désagréable qui fait crunch lorsqu'on le croque. Est-ce la normalité pour un contre-filet? Je prends habituellement du filet de boeuf alors je ne serais me poser en expert en contre-filet. La sauce béarnaise était divine! Enfin, j'aurais ajouté quelques petits légumes à cette assiette un peu triste 😢. Pour ce qui est du suprême de volaille & de gnocchis, la viande était tendre & juteuse & les gnocchis très bons. Néanmoins, le poulet manquait le petit kick de saveur espéré à la lecture du menu. Les desserts étaient bons, en particuliers les profiteroles. Bref, un endroit où nous en avons eu pour notre argent, mais sans plus au niveau de la cuisine mais qui a surpassé nos attentes en ce qui concerne le service d'exception auquel nous avons eu droit.Voir plus
Went there for the gourmand event. We did the 3 course option for $49! Our server was wonderfully kind albeit very busy (we would be missing utensils, etc). The appetizer & dessert were both great & lovely!! Disappointment came with the steak which was completely flavourless & dry. Fries unsalted. We had to ask for salt to just get through it. All 5 us ordered the steak & we all felt the same. Unsure if it was a bad night. Overall with individual bills coming to $60 each, was better off getting something else.Voir plus
It's Happening Gourmand month, on a Saturday night, the place is packed. We could not be served in the beginning by our waitress, the busboy took care of us. He was very amiable. Post orders, it took very long time to get any of our dishes. When the waitress took over after the first service, the service dropped a little notch down. Appetizer: garlic spinach soup 5/5, cod fritters 4/5 (more potatoes than fish). Main dishes: lobster risotto: 1/5 (unevenly cooked, after taste had sand feeling), steak & fries: 3/5 (unevenly seasoned, one side more salty) dessert: brookie & profiteroles:5/5.
