This place was amazing...from the greek salad to the dips....to the sea bass & lamb...it was all wow wow wow... im going back for sure...& Adrian at the reception was amazing... highly recommend....top greek food in the old port...
Food was disappointing, except the fish we had. Eggplant was watery, Greek salad had low quality olives & strange french style vinaigrette on top. Tzatziki has too much garlic. Service was however very & polite. Ambienualso good as restaurant is well designed & modern. Music was not much in my taste. Will keep trying for better tasting Greek food in town.
Travelling from Vancouver & we were recommended both Mati & another high end Greek restaurant. I'm so glad we settled on Mati. This was our most favourite evening of our stay in Old Montreal. Almost everything on the menu is or can be gluten free. Our server, Charlotte, was fabulous as were the support staff, all of whom joined to sing Happy Birthday to our guest of honour. Having been to Greece, you would think you're in an authentic Greek restaurant with an energetic atmosphere & cool Greek vibe. Get the crudo, get the octopus, get the watermelon salad.
Super cozy & warm place. The Braised lamb neck was so delicious & the sauce really elevated the perfectly cooked lamb & took it to another level. The Octopus also tasted good with a subtle touch of acid in the sauce. We also liked the watermelon salad, mainly the combination of feta & a slightly creamy texture with fresh & cold watermelons, but it wasn't that special & given the price you may consider sth else. But given that its refreshing it could be interesting as an apetizer.
They have a really nice bar & you can seat at the bar seats. I liked the experience & the bartender (I guess Felix) was a super chill & talented guy. I took a martini cocktail which I liked but it really depends on your taste.
Notes: There are some items that you can share (such as the lamb neck that we took). But don't expect a very large portion (:
We walked by & decided to have a spontaneous lunch here. Everything from the atmosphere to the service to the food was absolutely phenomenal. Highly recommend the grilled octopus, Greek salad & shrimp saganaki. Kudos to Adrian & the staff for making this random lunch a special one.
Excellent service -- warm, friendly waiting staff & great ambiance. Highly recommend the beet salad (seasonal) & greek sausages. Good selection of Greek wines, too.
Tous les plats étaient excellents!
La pieuvre, trempettes, la salade grecque & le bar… tous wow! Vraiment excellent du début à la fin. Très agréable, & très bel endroit! Je recommande fortement!
Outstanding service atmosphere & food. The salads the lamb the mocktails. Delicious
Nice place with a modern vibe. The food was good, but quite expensive for the size of the portions. We were 3, 2 ladies who don't eat big meals & one gentleman that was very hungry. We started with the greek salad. It was nice, with a good size chunck of feta cheese & enough to share for 3 people. The calamari was tender & crispy, we loved the yogourt sauce that came with it, but the portion was more of an appetizer size for one than a meal. The same goes with the greek sausage, just one, cut into 9 pieces. The pork chop (only 1 in the'to share' ) menu was average size, good but I could have eaten the whole thing myself. Basically, they chopped it in 6 that's why it's'shareable' The green beans were delicious, but again small. We left hungry with a $150 bill (including only 1 beer).
The salad, dips & desserts were tasty. Although it's no fault of the restaurant, our shareable main (Pastitsio) wasn't to our liking (it was almost like a Greek recipe meets Shepherd's pie fusion of sorts). Our server was efficient but rather terse in demeanor. We'll try something else on the menu next time.
Best food on the planet, it's as if you're eating on a summer evening in Greece. I recommend the grilled octopus & Greek salad as well as the pork chops!! Truly, it melts in your mouth & each bite is flavourful. This is one of the best Greek restaurants in Montreal, I don't think any other place can compare. The service was awesome, staff were very kind & always engaging with us making sure our service was good. This place deserves a 5 star rating, even higher if possible
I would definitely choose the beet salad, octopus, & potatoes again. Everything was well prepared & flavorful. I also really enjoyed the red wine. The eggplant dip was quite sour more like torshi in Persian,so it may not be what you expect if you're looking for a creamy or mild eggplant dip. Saganaki was tasty ;however difficult to cut & detach it when It gets cold.
This was my third visit to Mati & every time I am blown away by the amazing quality of the food & attentive service. We shared the watermelon salad, the flambe cheeze, the grilled octopus, tzaziki with pita, the branzino & brocolinis topped with flan for dessert. Every bite was more delicious than the last, pure delight. The service was impecable & warm & the setting is beautiful. I could not resist taking home a pastitsio home for lunch tomorrow. A gem of a restaurant, can't wait to go back. Visited again on a friday afternoon for a late lunch & the
food is always divine & service excellent (thank you Charlotte)
Really enjoyed this lovely place. We came in the snowstorm & were greeted so kindly. We ate a fresh greek salad with a nice block of feta, perfectly cooked octopus, delicious grilled fennel, & a hearty greek sausage. Everything was outstanding. Highly recommended.
Food had so much flavor. All the meat was cooked to perfection grilled octopus! AMAZING WOULD COME BACK we had the Greek salad to start, which was very good & then we also had the fried calamari which is also crispy & flavorful with a side of tzatziki dip, which is incredible. Glad the first restaurant was full! The lamb chops were cooked perfection! Finishing her off with a nice espresso very very pleased. I'
Loved our meal here!! When we checked into the Uville Hotel they recommended it & we decided to go & dang that was an amazing meal. We were so glad we took her up on this recommendation. We got two dips (eggplant & tzatziki), two people in my group shared a large meat dish + green beans & I got the fried eggplant dish (incredible & I'm a vegetarian so it was nice they had good options). I also got a Greek salad that we all shared. It's a great menu for sharing. Highly recommend!!
I was just up in the city over New Years & had such a nice time dining at Taverne. It was a cold night & the atmosphere couldn't have been more warm & inviting. Our server Sofia was amazing, she gave us great tips on the menu & we worked our way through all the courses & selections. Everything was delicious & the beet salad & octopus were best ever conversations for me.
Phenomenal food & service! Beat Salad, Soup of the Day, Fried Calamari, Greek Sausage, Lamb Chops & Baked Potatoes all amazing!
A warm & elegant restaurant, we had lunch here today, the food was authentic & delicious. The beet/pistachio salad was excellent & pretty. We also shared lemon roasted potatoes & one of Máti's special mains, a slow-braise lamb neck that was fork tender & fortifying. We will be back. Highly recommend.
I had the lamb chops, Greek salad, & the potatoes. Everything was delicious!! & if you're a small party, I suggest you skip the table & go hang out with Oliver at the bar. He made excellent suggestions of beverages throughout the dinner. Everything paired well with the meal that was on the way. You will not be disappointed
