Maison Inja was my first try to Persian food, I left very satisfied already planning my next visit. The dishes are thoughtfully crafted & the drinks was the best I've ever had. Maison Inja is a beautiful restaurant next to its sister café Aunja on Sherbrooke. We were a party of two & ordered the (1) Eggplant & Chicken Tahchin [$36.85], (2) Lentil Delight Appetizer [$15.85] & (3) Borage Teapot [$15.99]. The tahchin tasted mostly like chicken, as we were unable to see or taste the eggplant. Note that it is VERY filling. We enjoyed the lentil appetizer but were surprised at the few pieces of bread given (that was visibly ripped apart). We asked for more which came with a surcharge of $2.99! We were also tucked away in a corner where we didn't have any water refills the whole night & kept waiting for a server to come around. Despite the lack of attention from the staff & high costs, we had a wonderful time & enjoyed the restaurant's ambiance. I would highly recommend the borage tea & lentil appetizer! I will probably return & order a different tahchin to try next time. In total, the bill came to $82.41 after tax & before tip.View more

I loved it! we ordered traditional tahchin (eggplant & chicken), Adaspolo tahchin, & Veal eggplant tahchin, all were really tasty.
Although the menu has basically two types of main dish, tahchin or borek, they are kind of masters in making them!

From the very first bite, we knew we were in for a treat! We ordered the kebab Digi & the Meat & Eggplant Tahchin, & both were absolutely delicious. The tahdig was perfectly crispy, & the flavors were rich, aromatic, & well-balanced. The dishes came with a variety of sides, adding to the experience. On top of that, our waitress was incredibly warm & welcoming, offering great recommendations. The cozy & beautifully designed space made the meal even more enjoyable.

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere with a cozy & warm environment, & the food is aesthetically pleasing - but this is where the positives end. When you first sit down, you'll notice still or sparkling water bottles on the tables by default, which you'll be charged for if opened. The restaurant seems to employ every trick to extract maximum money from guests. They only bring the drink menu initially, claiming they want guests to order drinks first, & we had to wait 15 minutes to get the full menu. The appetizer portions were absolutely tiny, with less than a palm-sized portion of bread (which costs extra if you request more). The prices are very high, & unfortunately, the quality doesn't justify them. It's essentially an above-average place trying to charge fine dining prices. The rice dishes were heavily doused with rosewater, which completely masked every other flavor. The lamb shank was very tough, not soft & fall-off-the-bone as it should be. All the kebab dishes were disappointing since they don't have a real grill to cook them - they all had a gray color & were rather tough with occasional burn marks. The desserts, some of which weren't available, were quite underwhelming. Overall, if you've never had Persian food & mostly care about presentation & ambiance, you might be okay with this place. However, for anyone else, especially those familiar with Persian or even fusion Persian food, I suggest trying somewhere else, as the quality & prices don't match the aesthetics.View more
