The setting is 5 star, absolutely amazing! I was disappointed from the food. I went for brunch, ordered the terrine it wasn't good. The fish was ok.

Food amazing, service top notch & atmosphere on par with fine dining.
Sure this place is expensive but it's on par with its category.

Had the pleasure of dining at the bar with Gilbert & Sophie despite slinging drinks at a breakneck speed I was genuinely amazed with the level of service they gave me while I dined.

10/10 would go back.

Lunch for two with a bottle of wine at Maison Boulud was delicious - the kitchen staff are culinary artisans.

That said, if you're Michelin-rated & charge premium prices, your missteps are noticeable & not acceptable. They stood out even more on this occasion because my meal at Estiatorio Milos the day before threw these missteps into sharper focus:

1. I shouldn't have to pour my own wine.
2. The bread should not be underbaked.
3. The table should not wobble - & if it does, staff shouldn't wait for the customer to point it out.
4. Breadcrumbs on the table are inevitable, but at Milos they cleared them between every course. At Maison Boulud, we left before the crumbs were ever cleared.

To be clear, I know I'm being a Karen here - I wouldn't expect or even notice this level of detail at a deli or a diner. But if a restaurant isn't shy about charging premium prices ($350 for lunch for two), it should deliver the service that price point demands.

Grabbed a Saturday evening table at Maison Boulud & the service alone made the visit worth it, our waiter walked us through the wine list without any pretension. The duck breast was cooked perfectly & the presentation looked like something out of a magazine, honestly one of the best plates I've had downtown in a while. Sitting near the window with a view of the Ritz-Carlton gardens made the whole evening feel a bit more special than a typical dinner out. Prices are on the higher side but between the atmosphere & the food quality, I'd go back without hesitation.

There was nothing'wrong' with any of the components of the meal. The service was at Ritz standard. Food was excellent.

Ate on the inside part of the patio, & it was busy for a school night.

Was hoping the Daniel Boulud part of the menu would dazzle, amaze, inspire. It felt very much like any other Ritz Carlton dinning room, highlighting french cuisine.

My opinion is there are better places for dazzling, amazing meals at half (or less) of the cost in Montreal - just based on our 5 days eating around town..

I really enjoyed my experience at Maison Boulud. The staff was very helpful & friendly. The food was perfectly prepared albeit the main ourselves was a tad underseasoned. The bison carpaccio made for a great start. The black garlic mayonnaise complimented it very well without overwhelming the meat. The fish was also delicios but the shrimp bisque sauce lacked that special taste that bisque sauces have. Both desserts that I tried were perfect but the German chocolate cake has more creme that cake. The molten lava cake definitely made up for everything. It seems pedestrian, however, the caramel twist made it very special. The mini-madeleines capped the evening excellently. The wines recommended by Julienne (a wonderful host) made for an experience that I'll repeat again.
I forgot about the foccacia bread; to die for!
& my second dessert, Chocolat Coulant Cake Caramel French Sea Salt Caramelized Milk.
