Food, vibe, & people - five stars!! I spent many years working in great restaurants which has made me really appreciate good food & this is one of those spots you always hope to find. Family-owned with a well-chosen wine selection & incredible food that's made with local ingredients & love. The steak was truly perfect. Highly recommend!

An Unforgettable Stay at the Mactavern! Already Can't Wait to Return

My partner & I escaped to Val-David for a snowy weekend of relaxation & exploring, & our stay at the Mactavern was nothing short of incredible.

From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed by the staff. After dropping off our bags, we were greeted by two of the four owners-warm, genuine, & excited to show us around their beautiful (new) space. The location is perfect: just a short walk from the quaint village shops & right in front of the river, whose gentle stream you can hear from the auberge. It's the kind of atmosphere that instantly makes you exhale.

Naturally, we wandered into the restaurant, where the crackling wood oven in the corner set the perfect cozy ambiance & the host offered a warm blanket. It was perfect as the first layer of snow settled outside. Soon after, we were introduced to Mike & Tim, the brother duo & creative forces behind the kitchen (Mike) & the drinks (Tim). Their passion shows in everything they do, this is truly a place for foodies, by foodies.

We began with two hot cider drinks & a crisp lager, which paired beautifully with the perfect fish & chips, flaky, cooked just right, with cold peas that balanced the dish perfectly. As our second courses made their way to the table, I noticed Tim warming our plates on the wood oven. They think of everything, & that care shows in every detail.

Then came the steak & linguine. All we can say is wowwww. The steak was phenomenal, & the peppercorn au jus was honestly the best I've ever had.

From the food to the ambiance to the heartfelt hospitality, the entire experience at the Mactavern was unforgettable. Thank you to the whole team for an exceptional stay. We can't wait to come back.

At the MacTaverne, it's all about the small details.

My partner & I spent a night here & enjoyed every moment. This family run establishment does it right - from the cocktails & homemade cider to everything that's cooking in the kitchen.

The food was delicious. The scotch egg, fish & chips, & steak were our favorites, but we loved everything we tried.

Our room came with a massive tub that did not disappoint. We got to explore the surrounding area & come back for cozy bites in between.

1000/10 would recommend! A great family running an exceptional business 💯

Cet endroit est parfait pour profiter de la nature & relaxer. Nous y avons très bien mangé & y avons dormi une nuit. Un steak parfait à partager & une chambre très propre. Nous recommandons cette auberge sans hésiter.

Sommes allés pour le lunch sur la belle terrasse. Le service était top & les plats succulents! Nous avons partagé à deux une entrée tomates des champs & pêches de l'Ontario avec un assaisonnement sublime! Le fish & chips était excellent & mon conjoint a pris un steak qu'il a adoré & cuit comme il l'aimait! Très satisfait & une sortie resto à refaire!!! Merci à l'équipe de Mac Taverne 🙏👍

Absolutely loved our dinner at Mactaverne. The NY strip steak was cooked to perfection. It was tender, flavorful, & exactly how I like it. We finished the meal with the sticky toffee pudding, which was fantastic. I also had the best Guinness I have ever tasted. It was smooth, rich, & perfectly poured. Huge thanks to Tim, who suggested some incredible wines for my wife. I wish I had written the names down because she loved every one. Great service, great food, great atmosphere. We will definitely be back.

On est venus un jour de pluie & c'était quand même vraiment agréable de s'asseoir dehors. Les nouveaux propriétaires ont rénové l'endroit avec goût depuis le Baril roulant. Pour la bouffe, on a pris le steak, la salade, les ailes de poulet & les chips avec trempette à l'oignon. Tout était frais & délicieux. On a appris que le steak venait d'une ferme locale & ça paraissait. La sauce piquante qui venait avec les ailes était super fraîche & clairement faite maison. Finalement gros coup de coeur pour la trempette à l'oignon avec des chips de style'Ruffles' - un petit côté nostalgique qui allait parfaitement avec l'ambiance du pub. & les cocktails… clairement faits par un vétéran de l'industrie ! Overall, excellente bouffe servie avec 0 prétension.

Nous avons essayé le cocktail du jour (très bon) & nous avons apprécié l'attention du barman qui est venu nous demander notre impression de son cocktail. Nous vous souhaitons beaucoup de succès à votre charmant Pub! L'emplacement, côtoyant la Rivière est magnifique!
