We stayed at the auberge MacTaverne as part of a family cycling trip on the P'tit Train du Nord, & it was an absolute highlight! The auberge is just off the bike path, across the road from the beautiful Rivière du nord. We checked into the the family room (perfect for 2 adults & 1 child), clean, spare but very cosy. Our bikes were secured in a locker below the terasse. We of course decided to try out the pub. Menu was short, but choices of plates & wine by the glass were great. We tried the scotch egg, which to my surprise, was light & tasty, not too heavy. Breakfast in the morning was delicious - I had homemade granola, yogurt & Quebec strawberries, & other family members had the eggy breakfast sandwich. We love that the enterprise is a family affair, & they have revitalized a space that had long been vacant in Val-David. From what we saw, despite being open only a short while (just over a year), things are going gangbusters at the MacTaverne. We will definitely be back!

Food is passable owner Tim & staff feel there is something more than meets the eye. Unattentive aloof & not Professional is what you will receive. Mistake on ordered item not acknowledged. Pitiful. Food was fine at 200 w tax for 2 beers, rose glass wine, & 2 coke, one app egg scotch, one wing half, one burger, one fish chip one piri chicken. They failed on the Piri chicken since it was clearly microwaved. Rice which was reheated was dry. Burger delicious at $26 but pricey. Very limited menu with tons of staff excusing themseves for being overwhelmed & in fact are over staffed with 9 total workers & dining room of 33 seats *without including the porch*. Owner Tim kept insisting private party was the reason for short comings. Rating of 4.9 on google is a true exageration... Owner Tim in particular was confrontational & defensive as you can see in his response. Most 1 star reviews here are about the exact thing in this review. POOR service, limited menu. Find something else anywhere... somewhere else in this town. Dont deserve tourist dollar or locals....

Came here for a special dinner with my husband! Beautiful dinner outside with a view of the river & the blankets for when it got chilly was a great touch!! Fish & chips were amazing & one of the best steaks we've had. Can't forget the delish scotch egg & yummy cocktails. Service was excellent, we felt very warmly taken care of. Such a nice spot for a night out :)

We had the most amazing time at MacTaverne! The food was delicious & the service was wonderful! Tim & his team made us feel so welcome & the vibes on the terrasse were lovely with the setting sun by the river! We loved the scotch egg & the steak was sooo good. Amazing cocktails as well! The rhubarbara Streisand was perfectly tart & sweet.

We had the best time at Mactaverne celebrating my sister's bachelorette dinner!! Every staff member made us feel so welcome & truly made the experience unforgettable! Every dish was superb, we particularly loved the crunch potatoes & the scotch egg! The cocktails & wine selection was top tier! Shout out to Tim for being so accommodating to our large group coming in earlier & keeping us feeling great for the whole evening!

This place is an absolute gem! The setting alone is worth the visit : stunning terrace with a beautiful view on the river. The staff were all super welcoming.
We had the mocktails of the moment, which were refreshing, creative, & honestly SO SO SO good! The food was absolutely mouth-watering. We tried the Scotch egg, fish & chips, linguine, & steak, & everything was WONDERFUL. The desserts tasted so great too. This place is a MUST-TRY! All in all, beautiful setting, amazing food, & wonderful service. Can't ask for any better honestly. We'll definitely be back & we definitely recommend this place to everyone passing by

Tim & the team at Mactaverne Pub have created a truly special atmosphere that feels like home from the moment you walk in. We celebrated my brother-in-law's 30th birthday there, & our large group was seated in their stunning private room, which made the evening even more memorable.

The staff were incredibly attentive, welcoming, & genuinely friendly throughout the night. Every dish seemed to outdo the last-the Scotch eggs, piri piri chicken, & sticky toffee pudding were all absolute 10/10s.

From the warm hospitality to the outstanding food, everything exceeded our expectations. We'll definitely be back, & I can't recommend this special place highly enough!

We only dined at the pub. The food was good but a bit pricey: $13 for one Scotch egg is a bit high, I think. The Piri-Piri chicken was good, too. The service was excellent.
