I was looking for a BYOW then i found this vietnamese restaurant. The interior is really nice & the staff are welcoming. I tried their papaya salad as an entree, it was tasty & refreshing. As a main dish I choose the vietnamese rice pankaces served with grill pork, delicious it was. My friend opted for the traditionnal "pho" she said it was great. I would recommend this place for anyone since its really affordable, plus you can bring your own wine or beer.
I had walked by Lyla numerous times before & noticed the BYOW sign. The place was usually near empty. On this Sunday evening, my party of three decided to give it a try. To my surprise, the place was packed.
What looks like one more run of the mill Vietnamese eatery is pretty much that - on the food front, at least. The menu is standard (with a larger than usual selection of Pho) & the presentation lacklustre. The ingredients - chicken, shrimp, etc. - are of industrial quality. Fortunately, the prices are in line - so this is not an expensive restaurant, & of course, you can bring your own wine or beer.
Lyla does however excel at service - the staff being numerous & prompt. Decor is a mix of pretentious architectural features (an expensive scalloped ceiling), accompanied by tables & booths requiring refurbishing & lighting bright enough for a Costco warehouse. Clearly, someone changed their minds along the way.
Lyla is fine for a quick inexpensive no-frills weeknight dinner. Just don't bring a date or a birthday party you want to impress.
Every time I pass by in front of this restaurant. There's less & less customers, or even empty. So I had to try it out during lunch time to see if this restaurant has some issue.
The inside of the restaurant is really nice, somewhat it doesn't feel a Vietnamese restaurant, more like a modern summer beach themed restaurant. Service is great, maybe the fact I'm the first customer of the day.
While the environment is great, my Tokinoise soup isn't. The beef meat inside my soup taste really out dated, I had to remove it from my soup. Soup & noodle are just okay, with that minimum of price, I wouldn't complaint.
Okay meal & decent service in a empty restaurant, I'll give another visit to give a chance during evening.
