I had a burger & coleslaw & both were 10 on 10. The coffee was just ok but the place is a traditional dinner & that's the type of coffee that is served in dinners. The wait staff told us before we ordered that it is a cash only place. Even though I knew that already, I think that it is a smart move to let the customers know up front & not be surprised when the bill comes. Also it was reasonably priced for our day & age which adds to its authenticity in my opinion.

Place is hella cute, quaint & completely unexpected for that part of NDG. Simple menu, but certainly a propos of the small restaurant. Initially service was good, but after food was delivered it was a bit spotty. Asked for some mayo, & waited so long for it that most of what I wanted it on was eaten due to hunger. Wife had the pancakes, which were nice & fluffy but the cold toppings made it just a lukewarm meal. I had the JJ's breakfast, which was nice. Bacon was a bit burnt, but it was simple. Rye toast was a nice touch & the eggs were well made. Certainly a home breakfast, just made by someone else. Tax & tip, including 2 coffees (which don't appear to be mentioned as extra, unless I completely missed it) was $45.
I would certainly not recommend going again, nor would I make it part of my rotation, as much as I love non-chain places, but I would not refuse to go.

Classic diner with yummy dishes!
This was my first time going to the NDG Luncheonette & it did not disappoint. The food tasted fresh & the coffee was great.
Reasonable prices, delicious food, & excellent coffee served at the right temperature. We ordered a burger & two JJ breakfasts - the potatoes were nicely crisped, the bacon was crunchy & melted in the mouth, & the eggs were not overcooked. The place is small & cozy; if the tables are full, there are seats at the counter, which are perfectly comfortable. The waitresses are pleasant, & it's a real pleasure to watch the cooks at work. The chips served with the burger are baked (no oil). Unfortunately, this isn't mentioned anywhere, so keep in mind that the café accepts cash only - though there is an ATM inside, so it's not really a problem.
Sat at a booth with coffee & got the breakfast sandwich. Had 3 or 4 coffees, each of them refilled before I reached the bottom. Server was kind & a great conversationalist. It's the kind of place I wish I owned but am just as happy to eat at. 5/5
I have walked out twice as no one even approached to offer me a coffee or menu for 10-15mins while I was waiting.
First time I walked in, I felt like my kind was not welcome, the Staff gave each other looks & seemed like deers in headlights.
Second time I was completely ignored as I set at the tightly squeezed uncomfortable bar stool..mind you they saw me, till I walked out.
I don't know if this is a service issue, lack of stuff or something I dont want to allege.
I normally leave good reviews & choose not to comment negatively but i am not trying for the third time at a cash only establishment, with bad customer service.
If you come here know that the food comes around an hour after you order. Nobody came to give us a heads up of the time. I had to ask during that hour for a coffee refill & water after around 35 minutes so at least we had to drink. Orange juice & coffee were good. The customer service was good after I asked for drinks.
The crepes were real good. They lacked maple syrup so we just asked for some more.
I ordered the JJ & it was flavoursome, the potatoes were nice. The only thing are the eggs were way too salty. A mouthful full of salt. Literally. I just asked for other ones & the service was fast.
I will return & update but don't go there if you're on a tight schedule we were at the restaurant for 1h45 to 2 hours. Price were very reasonable.

This was Our first experience with food from montreal & it didn't disappoint. The coffee tasted fresh even though we came in the afternoon. The jjs breakfast & everything was seasoned just right with light fluffy eggs & crispy bacon & a bite from the sausage. The pancake came with apple compote & goat cheese & was phenominal. The sweetness of the apple complimented the goat cheese on top of a slightly firm but very fluffy pancake. The fried chicken sandwich was honestly the best one I've ever had. The atmosphere here felt so welcoming & homly. This place is definitely some where you have to come when visiting Montréal.
I.m not one to complain. Will get to the point. Loved the diner ambiance,& music from 40's-60's.Menu was very simple & short,would have appreciated some more fruits on breakfast menu. Ok so my wife & I arrived on a Saturday at 9:05 sweet & polite waitress serves us coffee right away,& by 9:10 we had given our order to her.I noticed that the cook had just stared putting potatoes on stove & doing his daily preps,which is usually done day before. We only got served at 9:55 ,that's 45 mins waiting,which normally doesn't,t bother me,but considering only 20 ppl can be seated in this resto & only 4 customers were in resto including myself. Then soon after I noticed that the other blonde waitress was cleaning the table with a cloth in which she had tucked in her shorts ,up her sweaty butt,literally. I would not say that I wouldn't give a second chance,but these issues should be addressed.
The platonic ideal Montreal diner. Good simple ingredients prepared perfectly. A rare 5 star review for a diner that does everything right & to the point. We've tried almost everything & it's all been great. The pancakes are dialed in perfectly, the breakfast sandwich is unbeatable & the salads are lovely too. The coffee is exactly what it should be & nothing more. It's not cheap, but watching the care that goes into each plate & the flawless (if simple & classic) execution makes it worth it. Honestly in the running for one of the best diners in city (& we've got some good ones!)

The food is great. Simple but cooked really well. The waitress we had was good at her job (sounds trite, but a lot of people suck at the basics)- periodic check in for coffee & water, pleasantries, not a long wait to order/get food/get bill. Here is why not 5 stars: 1) only option to pay is cash. Really? A square can be added to a phone. For the prices we paid, wasn't any cheaper than other places that serve breakfast. So what, the owners can't offer even interac? I sadly won't return, in 2024, no place should be cash only & push their high margin ATM in the basement as an alternative. 2) while a bit of a misunderstanding, the waitress asked if we wanted apancake to share as dessert. I understood it as a comped freebie to try to upsell us on coming back, since we had said it was our first time. What came out was a full on dish added to our bill as more expensive than any dish we'd ordered. I didn't complain, because it was a nebulous situation, but it was way too slick a play by them & left me annoyed. Sufficed to say while the food & service was quality, the final interactions mean unfortunately I have 0 intentions of ever going back.
A Place of Yummy. Coffee offered first & then a menu. Chose Chicken Sandy, a perfectly designed burger. Flavours exquisite for a burger. More coffee, which was North American ok. Pleasant staff & relaxed clientele. Cash only, by the way.
Filter coffee was good, but not included. I had the full breakfast. Scrambled eggs were nice & fluffy. For the price I was expecting a notch above the competition, but it was just average. Cash only.
We went for breakfast & had a great experience. Food was excellent & the coffee very good. The staff is very friendly & attentive. Service was very good. The meals took a bit longer then usual to arrive, but definitely worth the wait. Will definitely go back. Don’t forget to bring your cash, because it’s cash only.
What else would we do on a Sunday than go have brunch?
For a simple, straight-forward, diner-style &, most importantantly, delightfully satisfying meal we found NGD Luncheonette a perfect fit.
Whether you have a juicy, greasy burger or a delectable breakfast sandwich including a fried egg with your bottomless coffee we're sure you'll love it as much as we did.
We also loved the vintage diner decor & the old fridge, radio & the cutest salt & pepper shakers
