Le Violon embodies the ambiance of an elevated resto de quartier. We were seated at the bar with a view through the window of the kitchen.
The food was good, but arguably safe & conservative in flavour. Everything was very well cooked; the fish was flaky with a crispy skin, & the gnocchis very pillowy soft & peas still fresh with a light pop. Yet, each dish felt like it was just missing an element of surprise, whether a contrast in texture, flavor or aroma; something that stands out to make the dish more memorable for the price point.
The decor & the vibe of the restaurant is undoubtedly beautiful. The noise level was high & at times, it became difficult to have a conversation.
All in all, Le Violon was good, but perhaps not good enough to justify the cost. I was more blown away by the bill than the food.
absolutely fabulous experience sitting at the bar at Le Violon. Hype is well earned - not just from perfect dishes, wines & cocktails, but also incredible service. Warm, welcoming, & very knowledgeable.
Very high end tasting menu/chef's choice for $125 per person. Amazing quality, creative, this is one of the best restaurants in the city today (Nov 2024, & updated June 2026). Highly recommended. Small cozy room but still upscale without being pretentious. 3 services per night, & you have to pay a $50 deposit per person, but definitely worth it. Service was excellent for our group of 5. To me it ranks up there with Vin Mon Lapin, my colleague thinks it's better. Decide for yourself. Highly recommended, great experience.
Vibe is not bad the food is good especially the fish not worth the price in my opinion
Absolutely fabulous place. We had beef tartare, white asparagus, pork, ravioli, & for dessert we had marenque & citrus tart. Tried 2 different white wines & 2 different res wines. Excellent recommendations by the staff. Dong Ding tea was delicious, reminded me of oolong tea. High quality service & sooo comfortable ambiance & energy. Just fabulous!
Way overpriced, mediocre service. Not even close to worth the hype. 54$ scallop dish (before tax + tip) that had a spinach sauce & THREE scallops, that in my opinion were overcooked & rubbery. Best thing on the menu was the Aliment Viens charcuterie, which isn't even something they made, go figure.
Take your money elsewhere in Montreal where you can get better value & better food & not feel like you're getting ripped off by hype, especially considering this restaurant still has the tip machine spitting out amounts on the post tax bill, which is technically illegal.
Had the best fish, really loved the simplicity of flavours & textures.
The staff was great, & the chef prepared us a vegetarian dish off the menu upon request.
