I've been coming here for decades - ever since my university days. It is authentic, consistent & always delicious. Over many years, I have influenced colleagues, friends & family members to enjoy their food & it never disappoints. I even had my son's first rice ceremony here almost 15 years ago. Taj has been a constant in my life & it I hope it is around for many more decades to come. Thank you Mr. Kapoor & to all the waitstaff & cooks that have taken care of me & my family over the years.
Le Taj Indian Restaurant on Stanley Street in Montreal is an absolute gem! From the moment you step in, you're treated like family by the amazing staff to an authentic & unforgettable culinary experience. Kabir & his family truly pour their heart into serving the best Indian dishes in the city, using only the freshest ingredients. Each dish bursts with incredible flavor & you can taste the quality in every bite. It's more than just a meal; it's a delightful journey for your taste buds. Highly recommend! & never any bloating afterwards like other places! Our go to for many years now! ❤?
This place does not feel like authentic Indian cuisine, Keema Naan was nice but malai chicken came with no malai sauce. Good if you want to try out Indian food & are nervous about the spice level.
First of all this was my first travel to Montreal. I have planned this trip in three previous occasions & life (Covid, hurricanes,,etc) caused me to cancel. Each time I made a reservation to eat at Le Taj. I was so excited that after 4 years & 3 canceled trips, I had finally arrived. The seating was a perfect romantic nook by the window. The lighting was dim to set the mood for a intimate birthday dinner. Our server had been working at the location for 38 years. The owner was engaged with the customers. I wanted to take a picture with him but he left shortly after we arrived. The food was excellent. Flavorful, rich, authentic! I recommend this place to anyone living or traveling to the city.
Le Taj offers a beautifully warm & elegant atmosphere, with vintage Indian décor that creates an inviting & authentic setting. Service was professional & attentive, & the ambiance alone sets a high expectation for the dining experience.
We opted for the'feast' menu, which included a salad, appetizer, main with a vegetarian side, & dessert. The cucumber & tomato salad was refreshing, if a bit oversized. My fish appetizer was flat in flavor & oddly textured, though my partner's papdi chaat was crisp, tangy, & truly excellent.
For mains, the butter chicken had perfectly cooked meat, but the sauce lacked the depth, spice, & balance expected from such a signature dish. My partner's lamb vindaloo, however, was a standout - bold, rich, spicy, & deeply satisfying. On the side, the paneer masala had a beautifully balanced tomato-based sauce, while the saag paneer was watery & underseasoned. The naan was exceptional, & the basmati rice decent, though a bit soft.
Desserts were pleasant but unremarkable - gulab jamun was as expected, & a milk-based paneer dessert was unique but not particularly memorable.
The low point of the evening was unquestionably the cocktails. At $20 each, both the mango mojito & mango martini were disappointing - overly sweet, poorly balanced, & lacking noticeable alcohol & technique. They tasted more like juice than proper cocktails, which felt out of step with the overall experience & definitely a disappointment.
In summary, for the overall modest cost (about $120 per person), the experience was fair - beautiful ambiance, attentive service, & a few excellent dishes made it worthwhile. Still, based on its 4.2-star rating & reputation, we expected a bit more across the board. We've enjoyed more flavorful meals at lesser-known Indian restaurants, & with a few refinements - particularly in the cocktails & consistency of dishes - Le Taj could truly shine.
While the restaurant itself merits a solid 4 stars, the cocktails were disappointing enough to bring the overall experience down a notch to 3 stars. Fix the cocktails.

Le Taj serves food that falls into the'mediocre' category-decent enough for those unfamiliar with authentic Indian flavors, but disappointing for anyone seeking a truly satisfying Indian dining experience. The dishes lack depth & authenticity, often tasting bland or overly adjusted to suit a non-Indian palate.
The ambience is okay-nothing special in terms of aesthetics, but it's functional & clean. The service is very good, with attentive & polite staff, which helps balance out the underwhelming food.
Overall, it is an OK restaurant-fine if you're not too particular about taste, but not a place I'd recommend for genuine Indian flavors. If you're looking for something more authentic, you might want to explore other options.
Verdict: seems like uses quality ingredients, fine dining setting, okay taste, small portions, not value for money, servers were rude, hurried us to order (kitchen was closing soon so may be because of that)
I recently ordered takeout from Le Taj, & it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Even at home, the quality & flavors were top-notch.
The food was packed carefully & arrived hot, fresh, & full of aroma. I ordered the butter chicken, basmati rice, & garlic naan, everything was absolutely delicious. 🤤 The butter chicken was creamy with just the right hint of spice, & the naan was soft & still warm, perfect for dipping.
The portion sizes were generous, & you can tell the ingredients are fresh. The flavors are authentic & comforting, just like what you'd expect from a high-end dine-in experience.
Le Taj really knows how to deliver restaurant-quality Indian cuisine straight to your home. It's now one of my go-to spots for takeout.
Final Verdict: Authentic Indian flavors, generous portions, & excellent takeout service. Highly recommended!
Excellent restaurant with wonderful food, & professional & kind service. I only wish they still had the lunch buffet---a great place to find authentic Indian food.

Awesome upscale Indian restaurant in Montreal downtown. Must try their thali. Cocktails are sweet & average but food tastes great! Tried their saag paneer, bhuna lamb & garlic naan, authentic Indian preparation.
Very average food, or should I say below average? Well let's go with'Below Average'. We tried garlic shrimp, chicken malai Tikka, butter chicken, chicken curry & veg biryani. Supposed to be'Cheese Naan' was actually'Paneer naan'. The only item we liked & enjoyed is'Gulab Jamun'. Must try. Nothing significantly bad, but definitely the taste didn't live up to the hype. Had to wait for more than 1.5 hr on a Saturday evening. Will definitely recommend a reservation. Not worth it. Disappointed. Do not recommend it to someone with taste buds for authentic Indian food. Difficult to find parking. Has nothing to do with the restaurant though. Plan accordingly.

Taj is my favorite Indian restaurant since I discovered, authentic Indian food, never disappoints.
Introduced to my sisters & now it's our monthly ritual to go eat 🫶🏽
One of the most authentic Indian food experience in Montreal. The food is excellent, I have rated 4 stars as the portions are small & expensive. The service was amazing with no comment at all. It was too crowded when I visited & the inside was very warm. Regardless of these, this place is definitely an experience to try!
Our dining experience here was outstanding. They give you kind of a fine dining experience with an outstanding customer service & overall customer satisfaction. They serve you delicious & authentic Indian food & this is our favourite Indian restaurant in Montreal. It costs an average of 100 dollars per person for a full course meal but it is totally worth it. A special thanks to Suneer for his outstanding hospitality & service 💯👍
This superb restaurant serves absolutely delicious food that is - rarely one finds in North America - authentically Indian. The ambiance reminded me of restaurants where I have eaten in Mumbai. Service was attentive without being obsequious. My friends & I had a wonderful evening. Thank you!
