The salad was overdressed, the foods were mostly deepfried, but that doesn't matter because you are here for the beer, & it is GREAT! Some of the best I had this trip (& I had quite a bit)! Standouts were the ambrr, the dry porter, & the American pale ale. Try the tempura beans...
Extremely disappointing experience, mainly because of the rude & unprofessional behaviour of our server.
Our server, the curly-haired waiter, was dismissive & disrespectful from the beginning. When we arrived, we wanted to sit on the outdoor patio, but he immediately told us that the patio was closing & made our group sit at the tables directly in front of the pub instead. However, shortly afterward, we saw him seating other customers on the same patio that was supposedly'closing.'
When we confronted him & asked why other customers were being allowed to sit there when we had been refused, he simply said,'You're good here,' referring to where we were already sitting. No explanation, no apology, & absolutely no effort to address our concern. His attitude came across as arrogant & dismissive, as though our concern wasn't worth acknowledging.
The service only got worse from there. While bringing us a pitcher of beer, he was holding it with his thumb/finger inside the pitcher, actually touching the beer. It was extremely unhygienic & honestly shocking to see from someone serving drinks to customers.
We also asked for napkins three or four times & still weren't given any. We ordered chicken wings that never arrived, & when we eventually asked about them, we were simply told that the kitchen had already closed. Nobody had bothered to tell us beforehand that our order wasn't coming, nor was there any attempt to resolve the situation.
When it was time to pay, our group of seven asked to split the bill, only to be told that it could be split into a maximum of four payments. This was yet another unnecessary frustration on top of an already terrible experience.
What made everything worse was the server's attitude throughout the evening. He was not polite or accommodating & seemed irritated whenever we raised a concern. When we decided not to leave a tip because of the service we received, he appeared offended & behaved even more unprofessionally afterward.
We have lived in Montreal for several years & normally tip generously when we go out. All seven of us agreed not to tip this time because the service & attitude were that bad. We have genuinely never experienced this kind of treatment at a bar or restaurant here.
We weren't asking for special treatment. We expected basic politeness, hygiene, & professional service. Unfortunately, even those basic expectations were not met.
Based on our experience, I would absolutely not recommend this place.
The service was so poor that our group decided not to leave a tip, which is something we rarely do.
1. We were initially told that the terrace was closing & were asked to move to another table. A short while later, they seated other customers in the exact same area. When we asked about it, the server simply replied,'You are good here,' completely dismissing our concern.
2. While serving a pitcher of beer, the server put his finger inside the pitcher. This was extremely unhygienic & unprofessional.
3. We ordered chicken wings, but they never arrived. When we asked about them, we were told that the kitchen had already closed. No one informed us beforehand, & no effort was made to resolve the situation.
4. When it came time to pay, we asked to split the bill. There were 7 people in our group, yet we were told the bill could only be split into 4 payments. I've lived in Canada for quite some time & have never encountered such a ridiculous excuse.
5. When we chose not to leave a tip because of the poor service, the server went to complain about us to his coworker, & both of them started behaving in an immature & unprofessional manner.
Overall, if you're looking to experience one of the worst customer service experiences imaginable, this is the place for you. Otherwise, I would strongly recommend avoiding it.
