Overall, reviews highlight Le Roi Du Smoked Meat as a nostalgic Montreal staple where the smoked meat is consistently praised for its flavor and tenderness, and where generous portions, a classic diner vibe, and friendly, attentive staff create a welcoming experience. The menu is broad and includes sandwiches, clubs, poutines, and takeout options, with many diners noting the retro atmosphere and good value for money when portions are substantial. Some visits are marred by concerns about the decor looking dated or in need of a refresh, occasional temperature issues in the dining room, and long waits during busy times. A few criticisms focus on price versus portion size and occasional inconsistency in sides such as fries or coleslaw, but the meat itself is repeatedly described as excellent, making it a go to for authentic Montreal smoked meat for locals and visitors alike. Despite occasional hiccups and evolving menu choices, the place remains a beloved neighbourhood classic that evokes fond memories and sturdy comfort food.
It was a good place to get authentic Montreal Smoked Meat sandwiches. Portions were large enough to fill you & it was all reasonably priced. A smoked meat sandwich with fries & a drink costed us $22 each.
There was a street festival going on which gave us a more better experience.
I wanted to try out the smoke's meat sandwich in Montreal but tell the truth. The food itself is small portion & I paid two sandwiches including tax. It came to $35. I can get a full meal for $15 & I will be full just because it's a smoked meat sandwich doesn't mean that their potions should be disproportionate. Does service & the customer service is on point but the food itself truly was not hitting the mark. I'd rather go somewhere else where I can get my money go further.
Ordered an all dressed smoke meat pizza on a trip to Montreal, & was confused about the options on Uber Eats. I called & asked in french if the person I was speaking to spoke or understood english, so I knew if I needed to continue in broken middle school level french or could swap to english.
I was then told,'YES & OUR MEAT IS NOT HALAL!' & was then hung up on.
I was pretty shook? I just wanted to ask about the options for the pizza but didn't even get the chance to ask. I'm not even muslim so I'm confused as to why she yelled that in the first place? Was pretty unprofessional.
I called back anyway & asked in french about the differences in the smoke meat pizzas, & was provided the answers I needed, but I'm going to reconsider ordering from here in the future on my next visit.
The pizza's were good, but not worth the hassle.
