Overall, reviews highlight Le Roi Du Smoked Meat as a nostalgic Montreal staple where the smoked meat is consistently praised for its flavor and tenderness, and where generous portions, a classic diner vibe, and friendly, attentive staff create a welcoming experience. The menu is broad and includes sandwiches, clubs, poutines, and takeout options, with many diners noting the retro atmosphere and good value for money when portions are substantial. Some visits are marred by concerns about the decor looking dated or in need of a refresh, occasional temperature issues in the dining room, and long waits during busy times. A few criticisms focus on price versus portion size and occasional inconsistency in sides such as fries or coleslaw, but the meat itself is repeatedly described as excellent, making it a go to for authentic Montreal smoked meat for locals and visitors alike. Despite occasional hiccups and evolving menu choices, the place remains a beloved neighbourhood classic that evokes fond memories and sturdy comfort food.

The kitchen looked spotless. They have a large menu selection & we tried the burgers & submarines. The burger was very disappointing, it was clearly one of those frozen Angus patties because the meat was clearly not mixed, I could see the strands of minced meat. The submarines were good but everyone got heartburn after. The poutine is ok. Seats are very close together & benches are tight. The dining area looks drab & dirty. Walls are peeling, fruit flies everywhere. We even saw a bug that looked like a bed bug coming from the bench. I think this place should be visited for smoked meat mostly & for take out. Staff is super nice & helpful. Not a handicap friendly place. Long set of stairs to get to the bathrooms.
Our young server that spoke English with glasses (I'm sorry I don't remember your name dear) was kind, courteous, & amazing! The smoked meat was great & not to be missed! The negative is that the place is dated & they need to do some freshening up. That being said, it's clean & not a reason not to go for the food or the smoked meats, actually. The fries that came with the foods were standard fries frozen from a bag, so it did not make the poutine very impressive.
Ordered smoked meat & a poutine, service was good & prompt. Smoked meat was very good but the poutine was average at best. Eatable but not the freshest. Pretty sure fries are frozen & cheese was not same day fresh. Overall value was good.

We've been going here for at least a decade for their smoked meat. I really like their sandwiches but absolutely love their smoke meat poutine. Their cheese cakes are also delicious!
The food was amazing! The poutine really surprised me! & the waiter, Nathalie, is really nice, she deserves a raise fr. Atmosphere: very welcoming. Very good place guys.
Been around forever, large menu of really good deli food. Staff has been there a long time & service is fast. Smoked meat is excellent & so are the poutines.
I was out with my mother & nieces. My nieces were hungry, so we went to Le Roi du Smoked Meet at St. Hubert to eat. We ordered 2 smoked meat sandwhich, & 2 small poutines with 4 cans drink. The waitress service was okay, what I did not like was the white haired lady at the cash who takes the payment, my mother left a tip, the lady was mad, even went as far as to say, "they are so fucking cheap." In today's economy we can give so much with jobs hanging on the line we need to watch every penny. I enjoy Le Roi du Smoked Meat have been going there for years, however, because of the furniture they have there working Le Roi just lost a customer.
Worst poutine in Montreal! We ordered two poutines for delivery, one smoked meat poutine, & a regular poutine, with some pickles on the side = $38.35!!! Delivery took over an hour & half... for that price we expected something amazing! What we got was overwhelming disappointment with undercooked, small portions, barely any smoked meat... even the pickles were weak!
