Great place for breakfast! The staff is so professional & friendly. The food is really good & the tea selection superb. Tuck in a new residential area with a lot of nice places. I cannot wait to returnView more
Had a wonderful brunch here. The bone marrow dish was to die for.View more
OMG OMG OMG!!! Let me just SCREAM about this place because I am still emotionally recovering from what just happened to my taste buds. First of all, I don't even like writing reviews, but I would literally sue myself if I didn't shout about this to the internet.
I walked in & immediately knew something cosmic was about to happen. I ordered an iced matcha latte, thinking,'Sure, whatever, I've had a thousand of these before.' HONEY, NO. This was a GREEN ELIXIR FROM THE HEAVENS. If a unicorn cried tears of happiness into a cup, it would taste like this. OMG OMG. I considered grabbing the barista by the collar & demanding answers, but I had to compose myself because it was about to get WEIRDER.
Next up, grilled cheese. You think you've had grilled cheese? YOU HAVEN'T. Not until you've had THIS grilled cheese, which is the literal embodiment of comfort, nostalgia, & dreams, all melted into one perfect sandwich. I had to check if my soul was still inside my body. I'm not religious but I almost started speaking in tongues, that's how deep it hit. OMG.
& THEN-get this-even their WATER tasted like it was filtered through the clouds of Mount Olympus, with a hint of existential joy. I never thought I'd be raving about H2O, but here I am, one sip away from writing a poem about water. I started doubting my whole life: what other liquids have been LYING to me all this time?
This is not a restaurant, it's a portal. I would sell my left shoe to eat here every day. OMG OMG. If you haven't been, RUN-don't walk. If you see someone in the corner weeping softly, it's probably me, waiting for another grilled cheese.
11/10, would ascend againView more
I've been a huge fan of their old location on Maisonneuve. First time on William St & the place looks more upscale & it's very nice. But the service was non existent… ordered 3 plates one being sweets that the waiter forgot & after we were done he wasn't available to ask it. Finally went inside to ask for him & as if the plate was already on its way… took 20 minutes to get. For the bill it was the same way… & we were there for almost 2 hours & not once we got water refilled. For a total bill of 145$ I was very disappointed
I still left the undeserved 15%View more
I've known Le Passé Composé for many years now , back when it was still located in the Village. Since then, they've closed that original location & reopened closer to Old Port / Griffintown. The new space is absolutely beautiful, elegant, bright, & divided between a restaurant & a coffee shop. Visually, both sides are stunning & give off the same chic, contemporary energy.
I'll start with the restaurant side: I've never had a bad experience there. The food is rich, beautifully presented, & genuinely satisfying. Portions are massive, like, seriously, it's a challenge to finish a plate. The dishes lean on the heavier side, so come hungry. Quality-wise, it's hard to complain. Everything I've tried has been fresh, well-executed, & worth the trip. The drinks, however, are a different story... expensive to the point where it becomes hard to justify. I get that you're paying for the space & vibe too, but at a certain point, it does start to feel like you're paying a premium just because they can get away with it.
Now, the coffee shop side is where the experience gets tricky. I go there fairly often, mostly because my office is right around the corner, & for the most part, it's a good lunch spot, the food is tasty, the menu is simple but solid, & the ambiance is pleasant. But the inconsistency in service is real. When it's good, it's efficient & enjoyable. When it's bad, it's frustratingly bad.
Case in point: one particularly disappointing lunch visit with four of my colleagues. We arrived early, the place was nearly empty, just one table ahead of us. Yet, we ended up waiting over an hour for basic café-style meals. The two staff behind the counter were still preparing food for the first table, & while I get that fresh prep takes time, this was excessive. Our table grew increasingly frustrated. One colleague cancelled his food entirely. Two had to leave for meetings & took their meals to go. Another one left me behind to collect his meal because it still wasn't ready. Meanwhile, the manager was visibly present, he saw the situation unfold, saw the stress building, &… did nothing. No apology, no gesture, not even a coffee offered for the inconvenience. Just business as usual.
& that's the real shame, because the food itself? Genuinely great. Well-made, flavourful, & clearly crafted with care. But when the service collapses like that & more importantly, when no one takes responsibility for it, it undercuts everything else the place is trying to be. Especially when you're paying $15-16 for a sandwich in the café alone (don't even get me started on the restaurant prices), you expect the full experience, not just nice plating.
The core issue seems to be staffing. The team is stretched too thin to handle both volume & quality service, particularly during peak hours. It's not a question of effort, the staff do their best, but management really needs to address capacity if they want to maintain the standard they've set visually & culinarily.
So in short: Le Passé Composé is full of potential. The food is great. The space is beautiful. But the inconsistency in service, especially on the café side, holds it back. If they can sort that out, they'd have something truly special across the board.View more
Select brunch menu options but each choice has a complex but complimentary stack of flavors
The summertime bone marrow meal was my personal favorite, & the staff was very accommodating to us tourists!View more
Ratatouille was oily & my sandwich was far too complex & greasy, making it almost inedible. Cappuccino was mediocre. No gluten free options. Atmosphere fantastic, aided by superb weather. Serving size made this place a poor value. Will not return.View more
Simplement délicieux. Service attentionné. J'aime le'nouvel' emplacement. Bref, rien à dire de mauvais. 🙂View more
Street metered parking is always a challenge anywhere in Griffintown & the Old Port. The entrance is actually in the park square & not on the street. I'm glad the chef has been recognized for his talent & had the opportunity to upscale. It's so fancy now. It's also bigger to accommodate more people. I kind of liked the old wood picnic tables though. There's a huge bar with many alcoholic & non alcoholic drink options. The food is perfect as always (I got the mushroom toast). I would suggest more vegetarian & vegan options, but I guess that's expected from a place most known for its foie gras & marrow dishes.View more
Food wasn't great, service left to be desired. This place is not kid friendly. Have no knowledge of allergens inside their food, but will sell it to you anyway.View more
We went there for the weekend brunch which was not disappointing although it was a bit pricey esp for drinks & if you are adding sides. With such a nice weather day we choose to sit at their outdoor courtyard seating which is awesome. Gotta try their double Foie Gras it's a good portion for part of two & taste fantastic 😍View more
Absolutely delicious food! Every dish was full of flavor, & the portion sizes were perfect-not too much, not too little. Highly recommend!View more
Délicieux brunch, super ambiance, service impeccable ❤?View more
The food looks lovely & my friends enjoyed their meals, but they do not allow any modifications or substitutions from the menu. This makes it very difficult for anyone with allergies. The language on the menus & on the website does not make this clear at all. If anything, it seems accommodating because it says let us know about any allergies & mentions one item that can be withheld. There are many good reasons to not allow changes, but this should be communicated clearly.View more
Really great brunch spot. It's on the fancier side in terms of atmosphere, service & price. Quite a hefty price for brunch but it was worth it. The champêtre (mushroom & pork) poached eggs were amazing 10/10. Would order again. Lamb sandwich was also amazing. They unfortunately didn't have any soup so that was a bummer, we had to settle for the potatoes which weren't that good. The coffee was a bit lukewarm, would have liked it much hotter. The seating was also a bit crammed but I guess they need to maximize tables for their businessView more
I enjoyed my time here. The coffee was perfect, served with a thick cream on the side. There was also a wide variety of cocktails, including special morning cocktails. My favourite breakfast option Egg Benedict, but there were several other delicious choices.
As a side note, I hope they replace the worn-out menu book.View more
