The reviews for this place are super mixed, so if you're looking for an honest review, here it is!

They have tons of vegetarian options, & any meat dishes were offered in fish, lamb or chicken!
The butter chicken- Was smooth, spiced perfectly & offered a good amount of protein for the price. I personally like a little bit more spice, but was good for the others at my table who couldn't handle spice! A'died down' version of butter chicken that still packs a punch.

Chicken Tikka Masala- Decadent, well seasoned curry. There was a good amount of chicken for its price, this wasn't a crowd favourite but still a good dish the table somewhat enjoyed. Though there was nothing wrong with it exactly, just when compared to other tikka masala's it doesn't stand out.

Other dishes such as Aloo Gobi (cauliflower & potato curry), the chicken tikka, & all of the appetizers were good & frankly very delicious, but nothing Noteable to write about them.

The naan & rice were both good, steamy & fluffy, you can't go wrong with them! The rice had many components like peas & extra seasonings, which was super tasty, but we just wish a regular white rice option was clearly made available.
The garlic naan was delicious, & i recommend it over the regular!
- Only complaint i have about the rice & naan is that they both must be ordered as side dishes, upping the cost.

The desserts were fine, the flan cake was tasty but maybe if we return we probably won't have it again. Though it was tasty, had an eggy smooth taste, only order it if you're a big flan lover.
The donuts were good, but 6$ for 2 tiny donut balls smaller than Timbits was a little much.

The staff was kind, service was FAST, & the atmosphere of this place is incredible, you couldn't even guess it was an Indian place.

-Overall, this restaurant is great for those new to Indian food. If you're looking for authentic, spicy Indian cuisine, this wouldn't be the place i recommend. But- that doesn't mean we left dissatisfied. None of the food we had here was disappointing, all of it was tasty & nobody left hungry.
Would i come here again?- Yeah, but i would only really order the butter chicken & garlic naan, avoid any other dish I've already tried, & explore the menu a bit more. This place is great to come to 1-2 times, perhaps with family or co workers, but anymore i would have to pass.View more

Came here for a late dinner with friends & right when we walked through the doors I was in awe of the atmosphere, cozy yet classy. The setup of the restaurant is really welcoming & the service was incredible too. Our waitress Emilie was charismatic & her service was amazing, helped us decide what we wanted. She recommended the buttered chicken poutine & it was SO GOOD ! Definitely coming back soon for another poutine & pitcher of sangria.View more

Ate here last night & I understand why the reviews are so divided. The food was cooked amazing. The tandoori vegetables & paneer are outstanding. The quality of the ingredients is better than any Indian place I have ever eaten at before. However, it is not strongly spiced & aromatic as I normally prefer.

I wouldnt bring friends from India here, but if you approach this place like a fusion/influenced by India place it is great.

Butter chicken, naan, & the tandoori veg were outstanding.

Cocktails & service were great, & I would definitely be back.

If you're newer to Indian food or have people in your party that aren't too food adventurous bring them here.

(Maybe there is a way to spice things up, but they didnt offer it to us)View more

My favourite Indian food in the city! It's a full-on sit-down restaurant, which is reflected in the prices, but very reasonable given the great ambiance & amazing quality & taste of the food & drinks.

Service is friendly & quick, food is presented beautifully & it's in a very pleasant accessible location by the old city.

Also the butter chicken poutine is INCREDIBLE (& the lamb korma is a personal fav)

Have gone back many times, & will be back for many more!View more

Really delicious food & fast service. Eventhough the restaurant filled up by 18h30 & our server was very very busy, she & her team still did their best to keep everything going fast. But they never rushed us. Their catnip cocktail was delicious. The butter chicken poutine was a great surprise. I've had some before, but this one was by far the best one. Their vegetable biriani was also delicious. Their prices make sense for the location & portions are big & have loads of ingredients (the biriani had paneer & soooo many veggies), so the prices make sense to make. Overall, I had a great experience & will be coming back, it was delicious.View more

First time at Le 409 & very impressed. Food, service & ambiance was amazing. Modern takes on traditional Indian cuisine. Butter chicken & chicken tikka masala superb flavours, onion bhaji & chicken 65 as apps delighted our tastebuds! Highly recommend & if you are in Toronto you can experience an equally amazing Indian cuisine at Pukka on St Clair West.View more

My wife & I recently enjoyed an incredible dinner at Le 409, an elegant Indian restaurant in Montreal. We had a dinner reservation & were excited to explore their menu, which did not disappoint. The ambiance at Le 409 is sophisticated yet warm, blending modern décor with traditional Indian accents. The dim lighting & vibrant colors created a cozy atmosphere, perfect for an intimate dinner. The service was equally impressive, with our server Benjamin providing excellent recommendations & ensuring our dining experience was seamless. For starters to share, we ordered the CHANA SAMOSA-a pastry stuffed with potatoes & spices, topped with chickpea masala. It was so delicious that we immediately ordered another round! The flavors were bold & perfectly balanced, a fantastic way to begin our meal. For our entrée, we opted for family-style sharing & indulged in several flavorful dishes: - BUTTER CHICKEN: Tender marinated chicken cubes in a creamy tomato sauce infused with aromatic spices. - LAMB KORMA: Lamb cubes in a creamy almond & raisin sauce, rich & mildly sweet. - LAMB ROGANJOSH: Lamb cubes cooked in a flavorful curry sauce with yogurt, mint, & spices. - CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA: Chicken cubes in a creamy sauce with onions, tomatoes, & peppers. To complement these dishes, we ordered two servings each of GARLIC NAAN & PILAU RICE, which were the perfect accompaniments to soak up the rich sauces. For drinks, we all had Mango Lassi. It was phenomenal - unlike the overly sweet versions we've had in the U.S., this one was perfectly balanced, allowing the natural flavors of mango & yogurt to shine through. Le 409 exceeded our expectations with its exceptional food, inviting ambiance, & top-notch service. This dinner was a true culinary journey, & we can't wait to return!View more

Contrary to its high rating, this restaurant offers mediocre Indian food that has been overly adapted to Western tastes. The naan seemed overly leavened (too much baking soda). The Chicken 65 tasted more like a Manchurian. The Madras Curry had no curry leaves. The eggplant dish was under seasoned. If you're looking for authentic Indian - this isn't it..View more

We recently visited Le 409, a restaurant that presents itself as a high-end Indian dining experience. The ambiance was undeniably top-notch, with a refined, elegant atmosphere & the enticing aroma of various dishes filling the air. The menu was extensive, offering a wide variety of options. However, when it came to the food, I was quite disappointed. The Chicken 65, which is typically a dry appetizer, was much too hard to chew, with a coating that was unnecessarily thick. Surprisingly, it was the best dish we ordered out of everything. The Paneer Saag was bland & lacked seasoning, with no noticeable salt, leaving it flavorless. On a more positive note, the Garlic Naan was quite good. However, the Chicken Madras was a huge letdown-completely off from the traditional flavor. The overpowering use of coconut overwhelmed the dish, making it by far the worst Chicken Madras I've tasted. Additionally, the service could use improvement. The waiter took away our dishes after the appetizers but forgot to replace them when the main course arrived. We had to wait & eventually call someone over to assist us, which disrupted the dining experience. For a restaurant that charges premium prices, the quality of both the food & the service needs to match the cost. While the ambiance is first-class, they need to deliver good service & food to justify the high prices.View more

Had a wonderful dinner with my girlfriends. The wait staff is amazing & very welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious & some of the best we've had in Montreal. We ordered naan that was out of this world. Super fluffy & flavourful Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Korma, Chana Samosa, Aloo Gobi, Palak Paneer & Rice. Everything was devoured. The food came in 15 minutes after we ordered & was hot & served in the most beautiful dishes. They also have a great non alcoholic cocktail menu & very well presented. The decor in the restaurant is also beautiful & chic. We will definitely be coming back again. The prices are very reasonable too. We each paid $62 including tips.View more

This restaurant blew me away. Not only the food is superb, the ambience is fantastic, servers are great, the prices are more reasonable than any average Indian restaurant in US. We were here twice during our short stay in Montreal & it was almost like another landmark visit. We had chicken & salmon tikka, chicken 65, Rogan josh, curry, korma & naans, all of it authentic & delicious. Menu was in French but doesn't matter since everything is worth tasting. I dare Boston to come up with a place like this For me this will be a go to place whenever I visit Montreal.View more

We came for a dinner takeout on Thursday, June 27th around 9pm. We were a party of 3 + an already fussy (sleepy) 10 month old baby on a stroller. There was no way it was appropriate for us to dine in, so we came in just to inquire whether we can take out. Inside, the restaurant was about 1/3 full & there were only 2 servers & no hosts, so they were busy & hustling - we fully understand if they would prioritize the seated customers over us. But as soon as we came in, one of the servers quickly intercepted us at the door & gave us his full attention. We told him we're only going to do a takeout, if they can't take our order it's ok. The server said, "Of course, no problem! It's all ok!", & sat us at the table while he offer us the menu for our takeout order. We told him our menu choices, & he told us "Got it, give us 4 minutes." & the food really did come out in 4 mins. We got 2 naans, 1 samosa dip, 1 chicken biryani, 1 butter chicken - all packaged properly & all tasted delicious even after we took it back to the hotel. Props to the service team. We will come back from the great service alone. Props to the kitchen team for the tasty & prompt execution. We feel like the staff over at Le 409 cares & we appreciate you.View more

If you want good food in a bar/cocktail atmosphere, this is the place. The restaurant has an "industrial" interior design aesthetic, with lots of cool lights & silverware. This is an excellent place to have Indian food (near Old Port) & this is my go-to. They have a wide array of curries (creamy, spicy etc.) with different selection of meats (e.g. shrimp, lamb, chicken) & vegetables, with a good amount of spice. It is so special to find a place that pulls off a) homey b) classy c) fricking good food &) excellent service. Whenever I take my friends here, we always leave on a full stomach (the full kind where you have to unbutton your pants).View more

The food was pretty tasty, but the cauliflower in the Aloo Gobi was undercooked & the Vindaloo was all heat & no flavor. The eggplant, chicken curry, lamb korma were nice enough. The appetizers were tasty, but the Onion Bahjees were just 3 oversized pieces & would be better in a smaller format with more pieces. The Mango Lassis were a bit too thick & heavy on the mango & served in a thin glass, I have had better. The place looks nice, but the music is played too loud & it was hard to have a conversation with someone right in front of me. I don't think I'd pick this place again.View more

The wife & I decided to try this restaurant tonight after seeing it when walking past the other day. I'm glad we did. Back home in the UK, my go-to Indian meal is a chicken tikka massala. So I tried it at the 409, & it was fantastic. The flavour was different from English tikka massala's, but I thought that it was actually better. My wife had the lamb Korma, & she thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. The service we had from both our servers (sorry, can't remember there names), was top notch. I liked the little extra piece of hospitality of them taking our coats as we entered the restaurant. It's a small thing, but I liked that.View more

I have been to this location multiple times & I have enjoyed it every single time. They offer great selection of Indian fusion cuisine with friendly service. They also offer good variety of cocktails. They offer Raita, onions with tomato sauce served with cumin papadum as a welcome. We ordered Chana Samosa & Bhajee d'Oignons for appetizers & Butter Chicken, Lamb Korma, Chicken Korma, Butter Chicken, Lamb Biryani for entrée. I enjoyed every bite of our food & my favorite was Lamb Korma; it has a sweet taste that I don't normally go for, but was very delicious.View more

Dined here because someone said the butter chicken was the best thing they've ever eaten. The spice flavors were delicious, & chicken was not overcooked, but the sauce was very, very sweet... I suspect maple syrup. The garlic naan was delicious, as was the ginger lemonade.View more

Overall I had a great time. Staff with nice, & food generous & comforting. Signature cocktails are really enjoyable, well balanced. They could use a finer choice of glass. Tikka chicken was flavorful, but a bit dry. I'm sure it depends on the meat, maybe a brine could help. Thanks for having me, I'll be sure to come back & try other entrees.View more

I have mixed feelings about this place. The place was full & it felt good to see so many people enjoying Indian food in Montreal. However the food was no where close to Indian, everything was overly sweet (& this is after me asking for the highest level of spice possible) so as an Indian the food felt weird.
At one point I did enjoy the butter chicken poutine as a French-Indian dish & it worked in my head for a bit. What I loved were the cocktails. Really nice ambience too.View more

Went there on a weekday night. Wasn't too busy & could get a table without reservation. This is not your regular Indian restaurant. The taste is unlike other Indian restaurants you would go to in Montreal. We ordered veggie tandoor & chicken 65. We weren't a big fan of either. However, the drinks are a different story. Definitely a place to hang out with your friends for a couple of drinks & socialize. Maybe not so much for a dinner if you are looking for a typical Indian dinner outing.View more
