The reviews for this place are super mixed, so if you're looking for an honest review, here it is!
They have tons of vegetarian options, & any meat dishes were offered in fish, lamb or chicken!
The butter chicken- Was smooth, spiced perfectly & offered a good amount of protein for the price. I personally like a little bit more spice, but was good for the others at my table who couldn't handle spice! A'died down' version of butter chicken that still packs a punch.
Chicken Tikka Masala- Decadent, well seasoned curry. There was a good amount of chicken for its price, this wasn't a crowd favourite but still a good dish the table somewhat enjoyed. Though there was nothing wrong with it exactly, just when compared to other tikka masala's it doesn't stand out.
Other dishes such as Aloo Gobi (cauliflower & potato curry), the chicken tikka, & all of the appetizers were good & frankly very delicious, but nothing Noteable to write about them.
The naan & rice were both good, steamy & fluffy, you can't go wrong with them! The rice had many components like peas & extra seasonings, which was super tasty, but we just wish a regular white rice option was clearly made available.
The garlic naan was delicious, & i recommend it over the regular!
- Only complaint i have about the rice & naan is that they both must be ordered as side dishes, upping the cost.
The desserts were fine, the flan cake was tasty but maybe if we return we probably won't have it again. Though it was tasty, had an eggy smooth taste, only order it if you're a big flan lover.
The donuts were good, but 6$ for 2 tiny donut balls smaller than Timbits was a little much.
The staff was kind, service was FAST, & the atmosphere of this place is incredible, you couldn't even guess it was an Indian place.
-Overall, this restaurant is great for those new to Indian food. If you're looking for authentic, spicy Indian cuisine, this wouldn't be the place i recommend. But- that doesn't mean we left dissatisfied. None of the food we had here was disappointing, all of it was tasty & nobody left hungry.
Would i come here again?- Yeah, but i would only really order the butter chicken & garlic naan, avoid any other dish I've already tried, & explore the menu a bit more. This place is great to come to 1-2 times, perhaps with family or co workers, but anymore i would have to pass.View more
Naan were good. Rest of the food was too westernized, doesn't taste like Indian food & was very bland. Tasteless curries or tandoori dishes (which are surprisingly made with no tandoori masala & served with no Chutney). Overall disappointing experience. Staff was cordial & efficient.View more
Ate here last night & I understand why the reviews are so divided. The food was cooked amazing. The tandoori vegetables & paneer are outstanding. The quality of the ingredients is better than any Indian place I have ever eaten at before. However, it is not strongly spiced & aromatic as I normally prefer.
I wouldnt bring friends from India here, but if you approach this place like a fusion/influenced by India place it is great.
Butter chicken, naan, & the tandoori veg were outstanding.
Cocktails & service were great, & I would definitely be back.
If you're newer to Indian food or have people in your party that aren't too food adventurous bring them here.
(Maybe there is a way to spice things up, but they didnt offer it to us)View more
Amazing service, some of the best Indian food that I've had, they have the most incredible poutine!View more
My favourite Indian food in the city! It's a full-on sit-down restaurant, which is reflected in the prices, but very reasonable given the great ambiance & amazing quality & taste of the food & drinks.
Service is friendly & quick, food is presented beautifully & it's in a very pleasant accessible location by the old city.
Also the butter chicken poutine is INCREDIBLE (& the lamb korma is a personal fav)
Have gone back many times, & will be back for many more!View more
WOW, such good & tasty Indian cuisine. It's a little on the more expensive side but that goes with the area as well, near the old port.
The place is neat, clean & big enough to host big groups. They also had some nice wine & drink selection.
The service was also great for a full packed place, waiter was attentive & checking to make sure we had everything.
Food didn't take too long to arrive either & they give you a tasty little appetizer before your meal.
It is definitely worth a visit, you can go out of your way & try this place if you have the budget. It's worth a taste & visit.
I will go again & taste different options from the menu 🤤😋😋View more
Le 409 is a standout Indian restaurant nestled in the heart of Old Montreal. From the moment you step in, the ambiance captivates with its chic décor blending Indian & Havana influences. The lighting & overall vibe create a warm & inviting atmosphere, perfect for any occasion, be it a business dinner, a romantic evening, or a casual meal with friends.
The food is consistently impressive. Each dish bursts with authentic flavors, yet leaves you feeling light & satisfied. A personal favorite is the coriander lemonade, a refreshing drink not listed on the menu, but the staff graciously prepares it upon request. This level of personalized service speaks volumes about their commitment to customer satisfaction.
It's unfortunate that they no longer offer lunch service, as it was a popular spot for my colleagues & I during workdays. However, I understand that operational decisions are influenced by various factors.
In terms of pricing, Le 409 offers excellent value. A typical meal, including a main course with rice, a popadum, & a drink, averages around $45 to $50. Considering the quality of the food, the ambiance, & the impeccable service, it's a reasonable price point.
Overall, Le 409 delivers a delightful dining experience that combines flavorful cuisine with a sophisticated yet comfortable setting. It's a place I wholeheartedly recommend & look forward to visiting again.View more
I had high hopes for Le 409, given its popularity, but unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to the expectation. While the menu was varied, the flavors just didn't hit the mark for me. Some of the dishes were lacking in depth & seasoning, which was disappointing considering the restaurant's reputation.
That said, the service & atmosphere were top-notch. The staff were friendly, attentive, & made the whole dining experience pleasant. The ambiance also stood out-stylish, cozy, & inviting, which made the meal more enjoyable despite the food falling short.
Ultimately, while the environment & service were fantastic, I've had better Indian food at other places that delivered more in terms of flavor & authenticity.View more
Omg, I asked for HOT Vindaloo…. They delivered. Wonderful flavors & if you want something spicy. Ask….. over all the place was great & service was even better. You have to try Le 409 when you are in near to get some amazing Indian food & experience.View more
The best Indian spot in MTL by a long shot. The food & staff are excellent & it's always a fun time!View more
First time at Le 409 & very impressed. Food, service & ambiance was amazing. Modern takes on traditional Indian cuisine. Butter chicken & chicken tikka masala superb flavours, onion bhaji & chicken 65 as apps delighted our tastebuds! Highly recommend & if you are in Toronto you can experience an equally amazing Indian cuisine at Pukka on St Clair West.View more
Their menu consists of standard Indian food that most everyone likes but cooked to perfection. The onion bahjis & the shrimp korma fell into the category of best ever. The only dish that wasn't extraordinary was the nan bread which was a bit on the soggy side. Maybe the rotis are better. &, typical of Holder restaurants, they have a top notch cocktail bar. Our espresso martinis were delicious & effective!View more
My wife & I recently enjoyed an incredible dinner at Le 409, an elegant Indian restaurant in Montreal. We had a dinner reservation & were excited to explore their menu, which did not disappoint. The ambiance at Le 409 is sophisticated yet warm, blending modern décor with traditional Indian accents. The dim lighting & vibrant colors created a cozy atmosphere, perfect for an intimate dinner. The service was equally impressive, with our server Benjamin providing excellent recommendations & ensuring our dining experience was seamless. For starters to share, we ordered the CHANA SAMOSA-a pastry stuffed with potatoes & spices, topped with chickpea masala. It was so delicious that we immediately ordered another round! The flavors were bold & perfectly balanced, a fantastic way to begin our meal. For our entrée, we opted for family-style sharing & indulged in several flavorful dishes: - BUTTER CHICKEN: Tender marinated chicken cubes in a creamy tomato sauce infused with aromatic spices. - LAMB KORMA: Lamb cubes in a creamy almond & raisin sauce, rich & mildly sweet. - LAMB ROGANJOSH: Lamb cubes cooked in a flavorful curry sauce with yogurt, mint, & spices. - CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA: Chicken cubes in a creamy sauce with onions, tomatoes, & peppers. To complement these dishes, we ordered two servings each of GARLIC NAAN & PILAU RICE, which were the perfect accompaniments to soak up the rich sauces. For drinks, we all had Mango Lassi. It was phenomenal - unlike the overly sweet versions we've had in the U.S., this one was perfectly balanced, allowing the natural flavors of mango & yogurt to shine through. Le 409 exceeded our expectations with its exceptional food, inviting ambiance, & top-notch service. This dinner was a true culinary journey, & we can't wait to return!View more
Contrary to its high rating, this restaurant offers mediocre Indian food that has been overly adapted to Western tastes. The naan seemed overly leavened (too much baking soda). The Chicken 65 tasted more like a Manchurian. The Madras Curry had no curry leaves. The eggplant dish was under seasoned. If you're looking for authentic Indian - this isn't it..View more
Very tasty indian food. We waited a little for our food but still, it came out amazing. The staff was really helpful & the ambience was great. The chana samosa is to die for.View more
Great Indian spot within walking distance of our hotel. Solid food & atmosphereView more
Great option for quality Indian cuisine in the area. Consistently delicious food & great service in a beautiful bistro/lounge setting.View more
Really excellent Indian with a twist. Not the usual'sloppy curry'. Excellent service & ambienceView more
We recently visited Le 409, a restaurant that presents itself as a high-end Indian dining experience. The ambiance was undeniably top-notch, with a refined, elegant atmosphere & the enticing aroma of various dishes filling the air. The menu was extensive, offering a wide variety of options. However, when it came to the food, I was quite disappointed. The Chicken 65, which is typically a dry appetizer, was much too hard to chew, with a coating that was unnecessarily thick. Surprisingly, it was the best dish we ordered out of everything. The Paneer Saag was bland & lacked seasoning, with no noticeable salt, leaving it flavorless. On a more positive note, the Garlic Naan was quite good. However, the Chicken Madras was a huge letdown-completely off from the traditional flavor. The overpowering use of coconut overwhelmed the dish, making it by far the worst Chicken Madras I've tasted. Additionally, the service could use improvement. The waiter took away our dishes after the appetizers but forgot to replace them when the main course arrived. We had to wait & eventually call someone over to assist us, which disrupted the dining experience. For a restaurant that charges premium prices, the quality of both the food & the service needs to match the cost. While the ambiance is first-class, they need to deliver good service & food to justify the high prices.View more
Although the lamb vindaloo was delicious, it just doesn't compare to the Indian food found in Surrey, B.C. Excellent service, but no a lot of privacy. Very cramped.View more
Great food & excellent service. One of the best Indian food I've ever had.View more
This restaurant blew me away. Not only the food is superb, the ambience is fantastic, servers are great, the prices are more reasonable than any average Indian restaurant in US. We were here twice during our short stay in Montreal & it was almost like another landmark visit. We had chicken & salmon tikka, chicken 65, Rogan josh, curry, korma & naans, all of it authentic & delicious. Menu was in French but doesn't matter since everything is worth tasting. I dare Boston to come up with a place like this For me this will be a go to place whenever I visit Montreal.View more
If you want good food in a bar/cocktail atmosphere, this is the place. The restaurant has an "industrial" interior design aesthetic, with lots of cool lights & silverware. This is an excellent place to have Indian food (near Old Port) & this is my go-to. They have a wide array of curries (creamy, spicy etc.) with different selection of meats (e.g. shrimp, lamb, chicken) & vegetables, with a good amount of spice. It is so special to find a place that pulls off a) homey b) classy c) fricking good food &) excellent service. Whenever I take my friends here, we always leave on a full stomach (the full kind where you have to unbutton your pants).View more
I wish I could find 6 stars. Our server was magnificent. The food was spectacular & the ambience is unbeatable. This is truly a hip, Indian restaurant & bar. The music creates the vibe & the chatter of the patrons draws you in. This is a "must" when visiting Montreal.View more
Nice Indian restaurant. Really good lamb biryani but rest of dishes were just ok - overall portions are very small in comparison to how high prices areView more
Visited during a trip to Montreal....great Indian Food & the service was excellent. I sometimes find Indian food to be too spicy, but they flavored to taste.View more
Great food with beautiful ambiance & decor. The food is definitely more expensive than what you'll find at other Indian restaurants, but you're paying for the premium of being in the old port & the beautiful interior. Great option if you're looking for good Indian food with an upscale atmosphere.View more
Went here for dinner on a trip to Montreal. The place has a really good ambience that gets bowled over by the amazing food. An elevated taste of Indian food while retaining a lot of its flavors & some originals mixed in. If the ambience & food doesn't get you happy enough, their superfast service & really friendly staff will surely get there. The place being fully packed is a testament to the 5 star experience of this place. This is on my list of must go restaurants whenever I visit Montreal.View more
Amazing indian food in Montreal, everything blew past any of my expectations, everything was dleicious, the cocktails were phenomenal, & the deconstructed samosa left everyone speechless, no joke, it was that good. The service was cocktails top-notch, & the atmosphere was perfect. You will not be disappointed. Do yourself a favor & go here.View more
