I don't normally leave bad reviews as I choose to just move on with my life but I'm writing this review because I had such high expectations after reading all the positive reviews for this restaurant & unfortunately we didn't have the same experience as others.
Myself & 3 other people went for dinner on a Saturday night & to start off, it was closed when we got there & we had to wait in the cold for an additional 45 minutes after their advertised opening time, for them to actually open the restaurant.
We ordered 4 different curries to share. We expected them to be decent sized but they were very small & fit all on one plate. The service & atmosphere were awful. The server took 30 minutes to take our order, another 30 minutes to bring us water & we waited 2 hours for our food. We were the only people in the restaurant. The restaurant itself was very run down & there was no vibe or music playing, making it a very awkward & depressing atmosphere.
After waiting two hours for food, being presented with one plate of four very small curries & some crepes was very disappointing. The food itself was fine but there was nothing to it, it was lentils & rice so there was no reason for it to be so expensive. In total it was around $150 for one plate of food & no drinks which is insane.
Overall, it was a pretty negative experience & to have it topped off by being $150 confirmed that we wouldn't be returning.
I can not possibly recommend a restaurant more than I recommend the East Africa restaurant.
There was a void when Messop D'or closed (years ago) & this place filled it.
I have been a long time fan. The food, the couple running the place, the aromas, & the energy are all amazing!
Make sure you have a lot of time & some folks for good conversation & you will have an unforgettable experience.
I wish I had pictures but the moment that plate is placed in the middle of the table, someone has already torn the ingera & is digging in.
Just writing this review has made me want to return. I think I have some plans for the weekend 😉I will try to take some pictures. Yedoro Watt 🤤here I come…
I suggest a reservation

Food is always amazing. Family owned spot, local business. Absolutely recommend to anyone. If you're two people, I'd recommend 1 meat dish & 2 veggies. It comes with enough injera to be full. Cold in the winter, bring warm sweater just in case. Also BYOB. In the photo we ordered #4-#16-#18, but everything on the menu is delicious, no wrong picks.
I attended a party where this restaurant catered the food. I don't remember the specific dishes we had, but it didn't even matter because every single bite was delicious! I had never had Ethiopian food before, but I will definitely be having it again. I'm so glad I got to try something new from an authentic, locally owned spot!
We just had them cater for over 30 people - a hugeeee variety of dishes, & each & every one was fantastic!! Thank you so much for everything. Will definitely go to eat in with my wife really soon!
One of my favorite BYOB places the vegetarian platter & the lamb platters are so delicious. Everything here is so good & the couple running the place have great energy. The downside is that it takes a long time to prepare the food. 45 minutes. Worth the wait!!!

Lieu assez sale. Service super lent & pas du tout attentionné. À fuir.
Food was so delicious, vibes were definitely different than your usual restaurant, felt like you were at your aunt & uncles house & they were cooking for you. But if you go with friends, bring some wine & maybe cards you'll have a great time.
We went knowing that we would have to wait . we were prepared for it & brought cards & conversation. It was really nice to spend time in the space & with my family & I like that it's run by a family. The injera was very good! The best I have ever had by far! everything is made on the spot. Again the injera soaked up the food so good! I'm vegetarian, but my daughters are not I tried some of their bread that had soaked up the meat dishes & it was super delicious. Just good straight up vibes & quality food.

Unassuming spot that is one of the best in the neighbourhood, serving flavourful, authentic, fresh food that's made with love & worth the wait. Lamb, ground beef, whitefish & lentil dishes were all highlights, served on a large platter with plenty of warm injera. The owners are so kind. & it's BYOB
This Restaurant is wonderful & the owners are very kind. I give them 5 stars because the food is simply delicious & I have no issue with the service system. For Caucasians expecting chain restaurant service, this place isn't for you. The service is kind & functions at its own pace: its all worth it, trust me. If you get'hangry' like me, take a quick snack before getting to the place. Sometimes they run out of a kind of meat, especially late at night: Michelin star restaurants do the same. I recommend getting one more dish than the party size, for example: If you're 4 people sharing a platter, get 5 dishes & share them. All the options are delicious, have fun exploring. I've been here with groups of 4 & even 11 (Drop by early & let them know you'd like to host a group, they'll let you know if they can do it & when in the evening).
