La Sauvagine est describee comme une adresse familiale chaleureuse dans le Vieux Montreal, offrant un melange de specialites portugaises et francaises et une ambiance intime. Les plats vont des fruits de mer au gibier, avec des choix comme calamars, huitres, escargots, canard et pate, accompagne d'une carte des vins bien fournie et d'un service attentif. We enjoyed dinner at this family owned restaurant for 2 nights in a row. So good the first night, we had to come back again! Not so simple to find from online searches but trust me, well worth it. Every item was great from the calamari appetizer to the table side Caesar to the duck 3-ways. We enjoyed the Portuguese menu the 1st night & some Classic French the 2nd night. Thank you to Anthony for his attention to detail for our crepe flambé for dessert! We will be back in May with our friends. Come for the food & stay for Anthony's stories of old Montreal in its heyday!

My friends & I had a lovely French Onion soup here with some wine & genuinely enjoyed it. The staff were lovely & the atmosphere was enjoyable. The only thing was that the waiter brought wine for us, we tried it & liked it & then took it. It wasn't until the bill came we realized it was an $80 bottle of wine! I feel like the waiter should've let us know that prior.

Premier location. Excellent food. Great wine selection. Atmosphere is great for romantic dinner or family gathering. Several seating areas. Our waiter Anthony was superb. He offered outstanding menu selections & wine pairings. Anthony is a long time local resident who can give you great history on old montreal. He is the archetype classic French waiter. Total professional as is all the staff. They take their food & service very seriously for your benefit.
This particular establishment also has Portuguese selections. The restaurant above is owned by the same person. Two different chef's.
Escargo & wild game bird pate as appetizers.
We ordered the 3 wild game meat entree & the caribou.
I ordered flan for dessert while my wife ordered creme brulee for example.
The food is too die for!
I've dined here 5 times over the last 3 years while on travel.
Lovely place, great food (both Portuguese & French). Knowledgeable staff - they were able to accommodate our special requests, because my wife couldn't it garlic.
We also loved their Pinot Grigio from Niagara Falls region & Mouton Cadet wines.
Best vegetarian French onion soup (baked).. loved it.. the waitress was very attentive & professional. The ambiance was very relaxing & peaceful... A true restaurant.
Of course this restaurant is touristy, not much in old town Montréal escapes that description, but at the same time it is absolutely wonderful. Both things can be true we discovered. We sat inside & proceeded to have French onion soup, Caesar salad & the best chicken either of us had ever had. What made it more that just exceptional food & a great spot was the waiter Manuel. He has been there for 35 years & his service was extraordinary. I hope he is appreciated by the owners. He made it a memorable night for both of us.
We had a fantastic experience at "La Sauvagine"! The ambiance was warm & inviting, perfect for a relaxed meal.
Our waiter, Anthony, provided excellent service-he was incredibly welcoming & attentive, making sure we had everything we needed . We arrived from the cold, & he thoughtfully turned the heater on for us, making us feel instantly comfortable.
The food was just as impressive. The French onion soup was hands down the best in the city-rich, flavourful, & perfectly balanced.
I also loved escargots, which was perfectly cooked, seasoned & presented.
The ingredients tasted fresh, & the portion sizes were just right. Every detail, from the warm hospitality to the delicious meal, made our visit memorable.
I highly recommend La Sauvagine to anyone looking for great food & a wonderful dining experience. Can't wait to return! We will definitely be back!

Best French Onion Soup I've ever had. An excellent flavorful broth that was smooth & onion forward- not overwhelming, paired with an equally balanced cheese with excellent portions of broth, cheese, & bread. Wish I lived close by! I would order it again & again.
I couldn't tell you whether the service or the food was better: it was that good. My evening at La Sauvagine was top notch. I had three wonderful game medallions, each in their own sauce, & had a great French merlot with it. The creme brulee at the end was superb. All in all, a very enjoyable evening.
Yes. Outstanding food & service with attention to detail. This is the place for French Cuisine in old Montreal. Every year we visit family in Quebec & now we start our vacation in Montreal. We started with a bottle of wine then a few items from the tapas menu. Duck & escargot. Exceptional. Finishing with French onion soup & squid, prawns & octopus. Perfectly seasoned & prepared. This is the place for a taste of Montreal. Bon appetite
Very french like atmosphere: cool, cozy, intimate, jazzy...Food was excellent. I had the escargot & the duck. Simply delicious! Service was on point. promise myself to go back 😋

A beautiful atmosphere with French music playing made us feel right in the mood for delicious food. The wild game pate was very tasty & had the best olives I have ever tasted
The wild game trio & rack of lamb was also exceptional.
The service was wonderful, this meal was a highlight of our trip to Montreal.
