Restaurant La Louisiane in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (NDG) serves Cajun and Creole cuisine with infulenes from Southern-style fare. Some specialties include: hushpuppies, (fried cornmeal dumplings), shoestring onion rings, chicken and crawfish, jambalaya, southern-style pasta (penne magnolia), grilled shrimps in a cream sauce and market-fresh fish. For dessert at La Louisiane, try the bread pudding, a sweet delight.
Overall, patrons describe La Louisiane as delivering outstanding food and attentive service, with standout dishes from hush puppies with horseradish sauce and beer battered shrimp to garlic mashed potatoes, crispy fried chicken, and desserts like banana foster and beignets; the atmosphere and open kitchen add to a lively, welcoming experience and many call it a new favorite. However, some reviews note inconsistencies such as overcooked shrimp or blackened chicken, menu changes that alter flavors, portions that feel small for the price, and occasional long waits, while a few say certain dishes taste overly tomato forward or that the restaurant is not the same as before; overall, service and vibe remain strong and many would return for the memory of a near flawless meal when the kitchen nails it.
I was invited to La Louisiane for an excellent political discussion. Let's say that the food brought peace to our conversation. That special chicken with the cajun sauce was incredible! The bear was smooth, & the smile that came with the service was super bright. I highly recommend this restaurant. The dessert was amazing!
This was a disappointment. The food was bland & not prepared with any passion for Cajun cuisine. The servers were not particularly pleasant but very focused on pushing drinks & dessert. For such a small restaurant it was extremely noisy. I would not go back.
Nice place & nice people but after reading all the great reviews, I couldn't wait to try their jambalaya. Fail across the board. It was just mushy tomato rice with barely any flavor, not even salt. I don't even remember if there was a satisfying amount of shrimp or andouille because I was just so surprised that they actually served us this. Maybe the mushiness was because it was days old & reheated more than once but that's even worse.

Great NDG Cajun food with fun ambience. I went there years ago all the time & just back 10 years later & it's all pretty much the same. We just shared a snack of sweet potato fries & the breaded shrimp with a lovely wine. My friend had the salmon which was cooked to perfection.
Looking for comfort food & lively place? Check out the folks at La Louisiane! YUM. YUM. YUM!!! So happy I was introduced me to this fantastic restaurant!! I recommend getting there early (5:30pm) because it gets packed later. Single stall washrooms with no labels is the most euphoric experience ever - BRAVO 👏 Hip playlist that had me pulling out Shazam every tune 🎵 Had me singing & dancing in my seat 🕺 corn bread was grilled SO good I've never had it like that before! Fried chicken, chef vegetables, Dino ribs & banana foster w/ Lemonade that had a cellulose straw 🤯 I even tried to eat the straw 😂 Everything was SO good I can't wait to go back! Other dishes I wanted to try like the mussels & fries, blackened fish, crab cakes looked good as I watched other people get their food! They do have gluten free pasta & jambalaya I wish I could have sat there & feasted all day 😊 The mural on the wall was lovely as well. I dig the vibe of this rad place 🤙🏻Service was attentive & everyone was so friendly & welcoming. I felt like I was hanging out with friends & was super at ease 🫶🏻
Such a nice & cozy restaurant in the heart of NDG. The food was so flavourful & tasty. Big portions alert. We had the sweet potato fries & spinach artichoke dip, they were so good! The main were lamb sliders (seasonal) & BBQ shrimps. They were an absolute delight! Super fast & friendly service. Don't forget to check their menu out! We've been coming & will be coming back again!
