Review Summary

La Cage is widely regarded as a premier destination for watching live sports, thanks to its massive screens, energetic atmosphere, and convenient parking. While many patrons praise the attentive and professional service provided by specific staff members, experiences are inconsistent, with some guests reporting long wait times, billing errors, or issues with the digital menu system. The food quality also receives mixed feedback, as opinions range from fresh and delicious to overpriced or improperly prepared, with limited options for those with dietary restrictions. Despite these variations in service efficiency and culinary execution, the restaurant remains a popular local spot for both business lunches and weekend outings, though some visitors suggest that improvements in staff training and food consistency would further elevate the overall experience.

Nathan provided the worst service we have ever experienced. He lacked efficiency & competence in every aspect of his job.

We were seated by the hostess, & once we were ready to order, we spent 15 minutes trying to flag him down. What was Nathan doing? Standing in the corner at his computer, without looking up once.

When he finally came over to take our order, he wasn't even capable of doing that properly. Shocker! He came back moments later to ask what we had ordered because he had already forgotten. Mind you, it wasn't as though he had many orders to memorize. He walked straight from his computer to our table, took our order, & immediately returned to his computer to enter it. Somehow, in that short span of time, he forgot the three items we had ordered. Maybe don't rely on memorizing orders if you can't remember them. A pen & paper won't kill you.

We ordered a pitcher that took over 30 minutes to arrive. Our food came well before the pitcher. We even asked Nathan if he could check on it when he walked past us. As a server, it is your responsibility to ensure the bar is preparing drinks in order & not skipping over your tables' orders. Spoiler: he didn't.

There was a promotion on beer pitchers that day, so the bar appeared to be prioritizing those orders because they were the fastest drinks to prepare. Due to this, the bar neglected our Long Island pitcher.

Throughout our entire visit, Nathan did not check on us a single time. Is walking through your section that difficult? If he had enough time to stand at his computer for most of our visit, couldn't he spare a minute to walk around once & ask how his tables were doing?

Finally, it came time to pay. We asked him for the bill as he walked past us. After waiting another 30 minutes, we gave up, left his section, & asked another staff member for the bill instead. Surprise! We received it immediately.

Nathan spent what felt like 90% of our visit at his computer. He also worked extremely slowly. He would spend over 10 minutes at the computer printing the bill for a single table, walk over to process their payment, then return to the computer for another 10 minutes to print the neighboring table's bill, repeating the same process over & over.

Why wasn't he punching in the orders by seat from the beginning? Instead, he was trying to memorize everything, & struggling to remember even that, let alone keeping his tables organized. Had he entered orders properly from the start, he wouldn't have wasted so much time at the computer figuring out how to print each bill individually.

If multiple tables are asking for their bill at the same time, why not print them out all at once & carry the POS payment machine to each table? Instead, he repeatedly ran back & forth to the computer for every single bill. Does that not demonstrate a lack of efficiency? Why wear an apron with pockets if you're not going to use them? If it takes 20 minutes to bill out a single table, doesn't that speak volumes about one's competence?

We are very understanding of the service industry & know that restaurants can get busy. However, Nathan was not busy; he was simply inefficient. He had a hostess, multiple bussers, & food runners. That meant his one & only job was to take orders, check on his tables, & process bills. Unfortunately, he struggled to do any of those tasks efficiently.

The service was horrible. Unless it was his very first day, there was no excuse for this level of performance. Nathan clearly needs additional training. If he has already been trained, then he may simply not be suited for a fast-paced service environment.

I genuinely did not think restaurant service could be THIS bad until I came here. You usually expect bad service from random restaurants, not from a chain this established like la cage.

We came to La Cage to watch the Habs game & ended up spending over 2 hours watching this restaurant completely fail at doing the bare minimum.

After ordering, it took 15 minutes for our waitress to come back just to tell us that one of the meals we ordered was unavailable. Fine, mistakes happen. We changed the order. Then we waited another 45 minutes for our appetizers, while tables around us that arrived later were already halfway through their meals.

When the nachos finally arrived, they somehow had NO SAUCE at all. Just dry nachos. Minutes later, my chicken tenders arrived while the other 4 people at the table still had absolutely no food.
When we asked where everyone else's meals were, we were told there was a'system issue' & that the food was'coming soon.' At this point it was already around 8:30 p.m. We had arrived at 7.

The manager eventually came after another long wait & offered us two free desserts as compensation. Sounds nice until you realize the disaster somehow continued into dessert too.

Our meals finally arrived around 9 p.m., some with burnt bread & cold fries, but honestly we were too exhausted & hungry to even complain anymore.

Then came dessert. We asked for cheesecake & pain perdu. Fifteen minutes later, we were told the pain perdu wasn't available. We replaced it with a half-baked chocolate cake. FIVE minutes later, the manager comes back AGAIN to say they don't have that either, & instead drops off a tiny mousse au chocolat with TWO spoons for a table of FIVE people. & no cheesecake.

So after over 2 hours of waiting, missing menu items, burnt food, forgotten orders, terrible communication, & one of the most disorganized dining experiences I've ever had, the compensation was basically two bites of mousse.

I usually don't leave bad reviews unless I've had an actually terrible experience, & this absolutely was one of them. I'm honestly shocked at how bad the service was from beginning to end.

**⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five-Star Experience at La Cage (Des Jockeys)!**
If you are looking for the gold standard of sports bars, this is it. While La Cage is a well-known chain, this specific location on **Des Jockeys** stands head & shoulders above the rest.
The management team-**Cynthia (Store Manager)** & **Anthony (Assistant Manager)**-runs a tight ship. They are incredibly professional & genuinely care about your experience. Even when the house is packed, the service remains excellent; they have a way of making you feel truly welcome & appreciated every time you walk through the door.
**The Highlights:**
* **The Food:** Definitely above average for a sports bar. Everything is fresh, consistent, & hits the spot.
* **The Atmosphere:** The massive screens make it the ultimate destination for a hockey game or any major sporting event.
* **Versatility:** We come here for professional business lunches during the week & head back on the weekends for personal time. It's perfect for both.

A huge thank you to the staff for setting the bar so high!

Food quality is mediocre at best - it is just not worth the price.

1) 33 bucks for peppercorn sauce steak - perhaps the worst steak of my life. All the things that were wrong with it:
- it was lukewarm (ew!)
- not seasoned enough
- did not have the'smoky' flavor
- was very hard to cut + chew.
- Fries that came with it were soggy & extremely salty.

2) 29 bucks for salmon tataki - fish was way too salty for my partner's taste.

3) MOST IMPORTANT THING - the beers! I found they tasted great - but it took forever to bring them to our table (even though we ordered them right away). To give you a better idea of a waiting time - they came 1-2 mins before food! & that is for a sports bar setting ;0 Our server asked if all is good with our meal by the time we were half finished with it. Again, that is a very long wait time based on my experience.

4) As for the atmosphere - The floors were very dirty - popcorn droppings everywhere. Also I found there were too many kids on that particular evening.

Allez ailleurs.
