Food & service were fine. The atmosphere is nice & it feels chic.
The sushi was nothing extraordinary. & to be honest, I was expecting more. But the dessert? That one was incredible inside out.
I would like to come back & try different sushi rolls or dishes.View more
Food was good & service at the bar was great. I had the spicy tuna roll & shiitake mushroom dish & liked both! Paired really nicely with a glass of Sancerre.View more
Great spot!
Super fresh; try the chef's sushi- its got a great value, you get a mix of some really great/creative rolls! Wagyu gyozo were also great & come in a delicious thai sauce!View more
Amazing place. My daughter has to be GF & they were very accommodating. Enter side of the menu could all be made GF.
A bit loud inside but, that was because it was packed.
Service was amazing & all of the food was delicious. Had one of the sushi specials & the tuna spring roll. Completely full after & flavors were spot on.
Highly recommend!View more
The food here is exceptional, & the ambiance sets the perfect mood for either a date night or a fun girls' night out. The space is intimate with dim lighting, giving it a moody, inviting vibe.
We kicked things off with the Wagyu gyoza, which was absolutely delicious, followed by the perfectly seasoned takoyaki, each bite filled with a generous chunk of octopus. The fried calamari, paired with a side of spicy mayo, was crispy & flavorful. The bluefin tuna tataki, served with ponzu & jalapeno, was a standout--bursting with umami flavor.
We also tried the chef's choice of 7 nigiri rolls, & each piece was an absolute delight. To wrap up the evening, you must order the yuzu donuts, which come with a sesame condensed milk dip. The combination was mind-blowing--an unforgettable way to end the night. Highly recommend this place!View more
Absolutely incredible dining experience! Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor & expertly prepared. The karaage was a standout - perfectly crispy on the outside, tender & juicy inside, & full of rich, savory flavor.
The rainbow rolls were far from your average sushi rolls. These were exceptionally fresh & artfully crafted - a clear step above what you'd find in grocery stores or even many other Japanese restaurants.
I was especially surprised by the seaweed rolls with egg. At first glance, they might not be the most photogenic dish, but wow - they were unbelievably delicious. A perfect example of'don't judge a book by its cover.'
We ended the meal with mochi for dessert, which had the perfect balance of chewiness & sweetness - a light & satisfying finish.
Despite the place being crowded & busy, the servers were fairly attentive. They kindly opened our bottle of wine & offered a taste before pouring, which was a nice touch & showed great hospitality.
The atmosphere was lively & had a good vibe overall, though it did get quite loud due to the number of people - something to keep in mind if you're looking for a quiet dinner.
Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for creative, high-quality Japanese cuisine.
Reservation is a must.View more
Ordered the Kamikaze. Fantastic roll. The salmon is buttery & soft, the avocado was dense & ripe. There was roe in the roll that added a popping, fun texture. The service was great to boot!View more
Karage is the best I have ever had. Rolls were all fresh & unique.View more
The sushi rolls were very very average & disappointing in our opinion. We got the chef's choice for the rolls thinking that it would be something special but the rolls were very average & over priced. However, maybe this place mostly specializes in sushi & not the rolls.View more
Went for a four-year anniversary & was not disappointed! Our server Jacob was wonderful, very kind & pointed out all of the gluten free items on the menu for my partner. We had a wonderful time, & on a Monday night it was lively but not crowded. Highly recommend the Buruzu roll!View more
I like this izakaya very much. The ingredients are very fresh & prepared with care. I especially recommend the tataki maguro, which has a rich texture & unique taste. The sashimi & sushi rolls are also very good. The waiter was very busy during the weekend dinner, but this did not affect the high quality of service. The food portions were not very generous, & we had to order a second round. Overall, it is a 5-star experience.View more
The food & the services was both great & had a great time ❤️ here's what we ordered . Wakame Huitres fraiches Takoyaki Salmon spring roll Taiheiyo Rainbow Hot hakutsuru, junmai 300ml There was not one thing that wasn't worth. The ambiance was cozy & inviting, with attentive staff who made us feel right at home. The food was absolutely delicious - every dish was bursting with fresh flavors, & the presentation was spot on. Their [specific dish] is a must-try!View more
Got miso soup, vegetarian gyoza, & the 30pcs chef's choice. Everything was great, particularly the soup & maki rolls. Also tried some Japanese whiskey which was top notch. Their list of whiskeys & saki is quite extensive. Our server was excellent as well. I'll be returning next time I am in town.View more
Great location in Old Montreal. Excellent food sub par service, & needs more fresh air inside Food: got the wagyu gyoza - excellent, fried chicken appetizer - also excellent, sushi rolls were fine Service: kinda rushed, & distracted Atmosphere: ventilation is low, feels like a pub Overall food being good makes up for a lot of soft pointsView more
Excellent restaurant! Didn't have a reservation, but was seated immediately (18:30, mid-October). Staff were very friendly, & explained menu & suggested correctly how much food was the right amount. I had three plates, as suggested, for just me (solo traveller) & that was just right. Chicken Karage was lovely, vegetable roll was great & the snake roll (tuna) was delicious. Good range of cocktails, & nice sake on offer. Would definitely recommend.View more
Nice place, great service - just didn't love what we ordered. Gyozas were great but we didn't love any of the three sushi rolls we got which is unusual as we are adventurous diners. One of the rolls with crab was particularly fishy in taste & the tempura wasn't crunchy in any of them when it got to our table. I would stick to the classics maybe? Not sure. 🤔View more
Had a great night celebrating my partner's birthday. We were a group of 8 & were given a great spot in the back, so the vibe was private & intimate. The service was impeccable; our waiter was very attentive & friendly, & we ordered a round of sake bombs which was a fun experience to have as a group. The decor was beautiful & location was very accessible. My only hiccup was the food. Many of us ordered the 30 piece sushi & it was...not good. Like at all. I wouldn't order that again. It was complete mush despite the fact that it had tempura in the rolls? & for $70 it felt like a robbery. The appetizers & drinks, however, were very good. Which is why the main dishes were a bit of a shock quality-wise.View more
Service was impeccable. Didn't love everything in the chefs nigiri selection or the special sushi rolls.View more
Enjoyed our dine in for the evening. A place I'd visit every now & then, not regularly due to price. Is portioning justified? Probably not. The quality makes up for it in terms of its uniqueness. Gyozas texture seem to be deep fried; gives a good Crisp & the filling is very flavourful. The kamikaze rolls are perfection. Rolled & tucked neatly. Not filling is dropping out as I eat. Solid rolls. I had a ta taki beef aswell; it's pretty good. Tender & not so chewy. Garnished nicely & pairs well with the sauce beneath it.View more
Hit or miss but when it's good it's really good. Recommend the snake roll, rainbow, gyoza, agadashi tofu, & yaki udon.View more
Love this place. Good food, nice staff & atmosphere. You should try the shrimp ebi mayo & the rolls snake & the rainbow. Chicken gyosa is also delicious.View more
The food was amazing, nothing bad to say about it. I would love to eat it again. The service sucked hard. Don't expect to get your food in any kind of reasonable time. 45 minutes for 2 meat sticks... over an hour for a rainbow roll that we ended up canceling. To be fair our waiter was good. He was accommodating, but he had to constantly apologize for the kitchen & sushi bar's disorganization.View more
Perfect intimate date night spot! Me & my boyfriend went to Kyo on a Sunday night with a reservation at around 9. The wait was pretty short as they prepped a table, & the waitress was very energetic & kind. We ordered the karaage & beef sashimi which blew our minds! They were flavourful & had good portion sizes for sharing. Unfortunately, the sushi wasn't anything special. We had the Haru & Snake rolls which tasted okay. The ingredients tasted fresh but the flavour was alright compared to the appetizers. If you are planning to visit, I would definitely encourage you to try a more sophisticated roll than these - I can promise that the ingredients & preparation are great! The drink we chose was the matcha cocktail & it was delicious. I recommend this place for a cute dinner date with loved ones since they have amazing shareables & an ambient atmosphere!View more
The sushi was an incredibly fresh! Can't miss the snake roll & tuna tataki!View more
The quality of sashimi was fantastic, so great to have access to good sushi in Montreal. My kids ordered sushi via Uber eats which was really good so we decided to try in person seeing as even the delivery was good. The team were really friendly & helpful. We had the short ribs, pork belly, maguro tataki, assorted nigiri & some maki rolls (these weren't the superstars), we tried all the desserts & the warm beignets were the best 😍 the photos don't serve well as the lighting was dark, we definitely would come back if we were local! thanks for an amazing dinner!View more
This was a really great place with the tastiest miso soup, freshest tuna poke, & really well made rolls. The chocolate matcha bread pudding was perfection!!View more
Probably a top 5 sushi roll in my life. Didn't expect to have it in Montreal, but 10/10 recommend.View more
Tony was an outstanding host & bartender, best Montréal old fashioned (cocktail) made & served by him. Karage was alright but gyoza & shrimp tempura roll was on point.View more
My partner & I were curious about this place for the past few years so we decided to stop by a few days ago when my mom was in town to try it. Very disappointing, food wise & service wise. First of all, all the food items seemed to be loosely based on Japanese food, but just jam packed with fancy ingredients, leaving no trace of Japanese taste. We ordered a kimchi cream udon, sushi & shrimp tempura. The sushi wasn't much to write home about, which was what we were craving. Just your usual tempura-stuffed rainbow rolls with just caviar or something on the top. The shrimp tempura came out lukewarm & soggy, even looked microwaved & took forever for it to come out. The udon was way too heavy, just bombarded with a bunch of thawed seafood & shimeji mushrooms, & I didn't quite understand the kimchi concept. Food left us all confused. Second, a customer next to us dropped a glass. Could happen, I worked in a restaurant a while ago so I'm familiar with it. But some of the glass seemed like it flew onto my mom's shoe or sock & she kneeled down to check. The manager came to address the customer next to us & laughed, but as he passed my mom, he just looked at her in a strange way instead of asking if everything was alright. Didn't sit well with me. However, our server was generally alright & was informative & nice. Overall, if you're looking for fusion food specifically, this may be the place for you. But in my opinion, this meal was not worth $102.33 & I'm embarrassed to have shown my mom this restaurant. We won't be coming back, not a great place for Asian food at all. You can get sushi for much less & bigger portions than what this place charges.View more
Calamari was melt in your mouth delicious. & the Veggie spring roll was divine. Sushi was also so good!View more
