Absolutely incredible dining experience! Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor & expertly prepared. The karaage was a standout - perfectly crispy on the outside, tender & juicy inside, & full of rich, savory flavor.
The rainbow rolls were far from your average sushi rolls. These were exceptionally fresh & artfully crafted - a clear step above what you'd find in grocery stores or even many other Japanese restaurants.
I was especially surprised by the seaweed rolls with egg. At first glance, they might not be the most photogenic dish, but wow - they were unbelievably delicious. A perfect example of'don't judge a book by its cover.'
We ended the meal with mochi for dessert, which had the perfect balance of chewiness & sweetness - a light & satisfying finish.
Despite the place being crowded & busy, the servers were fairly attentive. They kindly opened our bottle of wine & offered a taste before pouring, which was a nice touch & showed great hospitality.
The atmosphere was lively & had a good vibe overall, though it did get quite loud due to the number of people - something to keep in mind if you're looking for a quiet dinner.
Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for creative, high-quality Japanese cuisine.

Food takes forever to be served. Quality & service are alright, nothing special. Ordered 20 pieces sashimi for $90 but wasn't fresh enough compared to its price.View more
This is the place to be for SUSHI LOVERS!quality & fresh food, excellent service.si vous aimé les bon Sushis aller-y. Nourriture de qualité & super service.View more
Excellent quality food. Definitely on the higher side of the price range, but worth it. We indulged in warm dishes, sushi, cocktails, sake & tea. All of which very very good.View more
One of the best experiences I've had in Montreal. Some of the best food I've ever had. Its a must, especially for people who like Japanese food. The cost was also much lower then I thought it would be considering the quality. (Would also be amazing for a date night)View more
I like this izakaya very much. The ingredients are very fresh & prepared with care. I especially recommend the tataki maguro, which has a rich texture & unique taste. The sashimi & sushi rolls are also very good. The waiter was very busy during the weekend dinner, but this did not affect the high quality of service. The food portions were not very generous, & we had to order a second round. Overall, it is a 5-star experience.View more
The atmosphere perfectly complements the menu, creating a delightful dining experience. The food is not only delicious but also made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. There's something to suit every taste. A must-visit spot!View more
Good service experience here along with a great atmosphere in downtown Montreal. However, the food & drinks were quite overpriced & the quality was not there for me unfortunately.View more
I had the pleasure of dining at Kyo Bar Japonais last night, & I must say, it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we walked in, the warm & inviting atmosphere set the tone for a fantastic evening. The decor was sleek & modern, with a beautiful bar area where we enjoyed watching the skilled chefs prepare our meals. The service was top-notch, with friendly & attentive staff who were happy to answer all our questions about the menu & make recommendations. & speaking of the menu, the selection of sushi & Japanese dishes was impressive, with something for every taste & preference. What really impressed us, however, was the quality & presentation of the dishes. Each plate was carefully crafted to be both visually appealing & delicious, with garnishes & sauces added with flair. It's clear that the chefs at Kyo Bar Japonais are passionate about their craft & take pride in every dish that leaves the kitchen. Overall, I would highly recommend Kyo Bar Japonais to anyone looking for an exceptional sushi experience. The combination of great food, excellent service, & stylish atmosphere makes it a must-visit destination for foodies & sushi lovers alike. We can't wait to come back & try more of the menu! *Recommended for:* Sushi lovers, foodies, special occasions, date nightsView more
Some friends of mine gave me a gift card for this beautiful place, very fancy & in an amazing position in old port (2 min by walk from place d'armes station). Great expectations, unluckily very disappointed. The service was warm & comforting, I asked some special things & they had no problem to change for me. Thank you! 😊 In my opinion the food is too pricy for the quality. I ate better in some sushi all you can eat. I expected higher quality ingredients (like fresh fish, that instead didn't taste of anything). Too many ingredients that always in my opinion didn't match very well. I prefer the original simple Japanese sushi, only rice & fresh fish. It's anyway a nice experience to do once.View more
Enjoyed an excellent dinner. Attentive service & foot was really impressive. Good portion sizes & all ingredients quality. Menu options offer diversity while also catering to staples we enjoy.View more
Had a great night celebrating my partner's birthday. We were a group of 8 & were given a great spot in the back, so the vibe was private & intimate. The service was impeccable; our waiter was very attentive & friendly, & we ordered a round of sake bombs which was a fun experience to have as a group. The decor was beautiful & location was very accessible. My only hiccup was the food. Many of us ordered the 30 piece sushi & it was...not good. Like at all. I wouldn't order that again. It was complete mush despite the fact that it had tempura in the rolls? & for $70 it felt like a robbery. The appetizers & drinks, however, were very good. Which is why the main dishes were a bit of a shock quality-wise.View more
Enjoyed our dine in for the evening. A place I'd visit every now & then, not regularly due to price. Is portioning justified? Probably not. The quality makes up for it in terms of its uniqueness. Gyozas texture seem to be deep fried; gives a good Crisp & the filling is very flavourful. The kamikaze rolls are perfection. Rolled & tucked neatly. Not filling is dropping out as I eat. Solid rolls. I had a ta taki beef aswell; it's pretty good. Tender & not so chewy. Garnished nicely & pairs well with the sauce beneath it.View more
The fish was some of the highest quality I've ever tasted, & the service was fantastic, even on a very busy evening.View more
The quality of sashimi was fantastic, so great to have access to good sushi in Montreal. My kids ordered sushi via Uber eats which was really good so we decided to try in person seeing as even the delivery was good. The team were really friendly & helpful. We had the short ribs, pork belly, maguro tataki, assorted nigiri & some maki rolls (these weren't the superstars), we tried all the desserts & the warm beignets were the best 😍 the photos don't serve well as the lighting was dark, we definitely would come back if we were local! thanks for an amazing dinner!View more
I am really happy to have found a place that serves an amazing selection of Japanese liquor that can't be found in any other restaurants. The thing I dislike the most though about this place is the portions that are served for the prices. Each plates are around 20$ & the portions are just way too small. For example, the skewers were around 18$ for two skewers & the karrage only had 5 pieces for 20$. Even though the food was good, I just feel like the price is too expensive for the food. Moving on to the good parts, the food was tasty. Each dish had great flavours & their dipping sauces were all unique & complementing the food amazingly. The quality of the ingredients was also great which made the food just that much more enjoyable. As for the servive, it depends on the people working there. Our waiter was smiling, polite & respectful through the night & he was really accomodating however, throughout our meal, we also had a lot of other waiters running around & just bumping us in our backs without saying anything. The service was also pretty slow, it took close to 20 minutes before our orders were taken & 30 minutes before our first plate arrived.View more
I've tried to get in this place without success on my last 3 trips to Montreal. Tonight was my lucky night as I got a great seat, fantastic service, & truly amazing sashimi. There simply wasn't any downside from service, to presentation, to the sheer great quality fish. I'll be back!View more
Great experience. Great food. Great drinks. A bit on the pricey side for sushu but none the less quality through & through.View more
Service was great, quick & super clean with nice vibes. The sushi delicious but warm. Even though the quality is top notch, still a bit overpriced.View more
Great atmosphere. The food was as good as our trip to Japan. Quality price was great. The service was great you could tell the team connected well & they could handle anything. Will be going back for sure when we visit again next year.View more
What an excellent Japanese restaurant. I was extremely surprised with the level of quality of their food. The atmosphere & service was excellent, big shoutout to our server Juena, she was great! Highly recommend the chefs assorted maki. All the food options are meticulously plated & always fresh. Will definitely visit again!View more
Honestly, I was disappointed. Overall they have 4.5 stars right now, so as a first timer you have high expectations, but the sushi was just not that good. The service was very good though. My friend had the chicken karaage & apparently it was great. There are 5 star reviews & then there are 1-2 star reviews. I think there's a blend of low standard people & others who have had authentic & fine dining japanese/food, who expect high quality. As someone who's been trying a lot of restaurants in Montreal, this one was definitely disappointing. Recommend for those who aren't picky/have low standards.View more
Amazing sushi. You can tell that the quality here is top notch. Atmosphere is very cheerful & enjoyable too. I really appreciated Kathy’s service. She went above & beyond to be careful with my allergies, & was very informative.View more
