Not spicy at all, I nibbled on the whole pepper they gave to add heat to the meal. Flavours were not complex, the Laksa soup tasted like a can of coconut milk without spice. I don't like giving bad reviews but I truly do not understand all the hype & positive reviews. The girl working service was incredibly nice & helpful, I would go back just to see her.
FOOD: Good variety of menu, GF options. Heat level not intense, but food flavours are fresh & balanced.
SERVICE: Friendly & attentive dine in experience. Though small, there is no feeling of being pressured to eat & go.
ATMOSPHERE: Clean with a limited number of tables & counter. Dining area does feel crowded though not really meant for long leisurely dining. Certainly comfortable & adequate for conversation & enjoyable meal. Open kitchen, you are able to see the cooks at work. Bathrooms clean with sink outside toilet room. Very nice independent restaurant in the neighbourhood!
Laksa Soup 🍜 For The W!
Honestly enough can't be said about @krapow.ca located in the heart of Montreal. This unassuming spot in one of Montreal hottest neighbourhoods has been serving up delicious Thai food now for 5 delicious years. I'm just so upset at myself it took me this long to come visite!
I have to start off with one of the stars of the show the Laksa. Absolutely show stopper of a soup, can't remember the last time I've had such amazing depth of flavour in a broth. Truly beautiful balance between savory, heat & umami. A elite move if u wanna take this dish to the next level in my opinion is to add the Sambal Belacan Chicken on top. It adds a layer of crunch & texture overall to the dish that to be really adds. You can also add anyone of their 3 in house Sambals to it, all were just amazing. The noodles had amazing bounce to them, the toppings all perfectly curated. Honestly a 10/10 dish, FOODGASMIC💦 to say the least! & I like to add, everything they have is gluten free!
Next we have the Beef Rendang, origins now focusing on Indonesia & boy this dish really transported me there! It's was so flavour packed full of Spices & herbs, slowly cooked for hours & hours that the meat just feel apart in yoyr mouth. Honestly I can't believe I've only ever had this dish 3 times in my life & this time had to have been my favorite tbh. This rich, sweet & savoury Stew is just what I needed.
Last but not least we have the famous beef Krapow for what they are famous for. Honestly I've only ever had this dish made with pork so I was wondering what the difference flavour notes & textures might be. Truthfully, really pleasantly surprised. Not to much heat which was a little odd because normally every time I've had this dish it really just burns your face off. But I guess they have to keep it a little calmer for the whities LOL. But again really well balanced dish especially with the fried egg on top it really lends a richness to the entire meal you break it up & eat it all together really well done. My only thing if I were to give anything to improve or add to this dish definitely a little bit of heat, & cripier beef, but still 11/10!
Idk what the bad reviews were for, the food is amazing! 🥲 As a South East Asian, this is easily one of the best versions of Krapow & Beef Rendang I've ever had. Everything was so spot on. If you're not used to spice or bold flavours, this is probably not for you. Also loved that the presentation was translated in the takeout box. There was a bit of a wait today, but well worth it in my opinion. I couldn't stop eating, it reminded me of
home.
The overall portion size of the Tom Kha was *really* small- not too bad in terms of the protein, & it *was* tasty while it lasted- but this "meal portion" was served (by delivery) in the same size cup as the appetizer Som Tam. & then the Som Tam- this was probably a *bit* more quantity than the other Thai restaurants tend to give- but wayyyy less flavour. Might give it another shot on-premises & order a non-soup main (& try to scope whether the soups are larger portion on-premises)- I want to believe the other reviews, & this is the closest Thai spot to my apartment, but for now my choice of Thai delivery will be elsewhere...
Delicious food with really great options for those that are gluten free (they are fully gluten free) vegetarian, & vegan. my favourite was the laska végane which is a Malaysian food with noodles, mushrooms, bok choy, chillies, sprouts & more. Definitely has a bit of a kick to it but the flavours are phenomenal & very authentic. They also have a beyond krapow which is served with an egg, rice & bok choy that surprisingly tastes like the regular thing. Great service all around & fantastic food
First time here. They are so accommodating & friendly! The food is fresh, extremely flavourful & appetizing. Definitely recommend!
One of the best Thai authentic restaurant in Montreal/Canada. It's a very cute restaurant with delicious food & excellent service. The menu is small but all food prepared fresh with flavour . I will recommend anyone visiting Montreal to try this place.
The best Thai food in Montreal by far. All the herbs are fresh giving the food superior flavour.
Ordered in for the first time, the dish is honestly elegant for supposedly street food style cuisine. The flavours are impressive. The portion looked small in the container but was actually a lot was very happy. More chicken than almost all other spots & lots of nice rice.
Delicious & flavourful. They only do a couple dishes & they do them very well. Generous portions. I'll be back!
Best authentic south East Asian food in Montreal ! The meal is as real as it gets, the flavours are truly amazing, & the place is really enjoyable to dine in now they changed location with the right Asian bistrot vibes. I lived in south east Asia for a while & that is the first time I could taste what feels like an instant travel back there… love!!
