The restaurant needs to turn on the AC...it's too hot in there. The music & the people were too loud. Tonkatsu is not that good. Not enough sauce & too dry. Way too expensive for what it is.Voir plus
The food was alright. Good portion but nothing incredible. The sauce was too thick. If you've travelled to Japan you know that you grind the sesame seeds & pour the sauce & mix. It was impossible with the tonkatsu sauce they provided.Voir plus
Sweet chili chicken katsu & the honey fries were delicious! The amount of food I ordered could've definitely feed 2 people.Voir plus
service was nice & attentive. the complimentary udon soup that came with our meal was so good we had thirds of it. original katsu was rly good! super crispy, not dry, flavourful curry. not as much of a fan of the brick cheese katsu, you get a lot less meat, which is replaced with cheese thats a bit bland imo. even with the ketchup-like dip.. didnt love it. the red carbonara udon is more spicy than anything, but i liked it on the side!! a lil expensive but i would still wanna come back to try their other udons + their cheeseballs (loved this too, was super cheesy) & for their original katsu :)Voir plus
I was a bit sad that the previous restaurant that occupied this space was gone but at the same time my husband & I were very excited to try the food here. The place was packed & there was a bit of a wait but we understood that we had come during its peak hours. It actually didn't take too long before we were seated & we pretty much knew what we wanted from looking at the menu while waiting. But it there were a lot of people so it took time before the waiter came to take our order. I ordered the Japanese style fish katsu along with a house lemonade while my husband & his friend got the pork loin katsu & each ordered one of their whisky cocktails. Water & a complementary soup was brought right away & we chatted as we waited for the food. Finally my husband & I got our respective orders but for some reason our friend, who had the same plate didn't get his for a long time. At least we finally had our drinks. The waitress asked if we wanted more soup & we accepted but again for some reason our companion did not get his soup. So we waited with him & by the time his plate arrived our food while still warm was no longer hot. The food was okay, it was a good portion but not quite what we had hoped for (my husband loved katsu when he was in Japan it was not quite the same). My fish the batter was nice & crispy but difficult to get the tartare sauce to stick to it. I seemed to have a smaller portion of sesame seeds compared to my husband andbour friend so that when I crushed it it was all stuck the the grooves of the bowl. I had to scrape the grooves to loosen it into my sauce. I think the main disappointment was the drinks could have been served while we were waiting for the food. But the atmosphere was good & the appetizers the tables next to us did look interesting. I might go again but sadly my husband will not.Voir plus
Everything was so so good & it's amongst my top restaurants in Montreal! Service was friendly & fast. I recommend that you go in the morning, as soon as it opens to secure a spot & to get the best service :) Dishes that I recommend : - Cheeseballs : fan of cheesepulls & mocchi like texture? This is THE appetizer for you. Plus, they add honey butter powder on top, which makes it so addicting! - Brick cheese gold & silver katsu : if you visit Katsuya, you have to take this (it's like their signature dish & why they are so popular!) - Original sweet potato cheese katsu : it was recommended by the owner as this is his favorite dish. I must say, it's mine too now! - Finally, as a udon lover, their udon dishes are so worth it! If I have a udon craving, I could see myself coming back for it.Voir plus
I've had Katsuya multiple times in Vancouver & I love it so I was really exited to try this one. It was delicious! We had a couple of appetizers (cheese balls, cheese crabmeat croquettes, tartare shrimp, & honey fries) & my favourite was the croquettes! For their main dish I had the hot spicy fish katsu. My 2 favourite flavours & the hot spicy katsu & the sweet chili katsu! The plates are very big & filling. It also comes with miso soup but I didn't find the soup that good to be honest.Voir plus
The restaurant has a very welcoming atmosphere. We were treated to free miso soup & free whatever that thing with the jalapeno is. The cheese balls have a nice chewy texture to it alongside a sweet kick. The katsu was cooked to perfection. My friend ordered the red carbonara udon as well. It was too spicy for my liking. The rice was fluffy & the coleslaw was delicious.Voir plus
