Review Summary

Overall, Kampai Sushi is described as delivering very fresh, high quality sushi with generous portions and appealing presentation. Dishes like chirashi, sashimi, nigiri, and signature rolls are frequently praised, with mentions of lobster and foie gras sushi and a phenomenal black cod. Delivery is fast and plates arrive well presented, while dine-in experiences are noted for clean spaces and steady portion sizes. Service is often friendly and attentive, but some reviews report slower service, miscommunications, or less satisfying interactions. Prices are sometimes described as high, but many feel the quality and portion size justify the cost, although some combos are considered pricey. A note about location mentions it was once in Delson on the south shore. Taken together these reviews depict Kampai Sushi as a strong choice for fresh, flavorful sushi with high marks for taste and presentation, while experiences with service and value can vary.

I was happy to find the quality of the food here still amazing after 7 months. The prices are still as intimidating as ever & I was a bit surprised at first to see that their gourmet combo was for take out only but they allowed us to order it for dine in as well. Once again, the quality of the ingredients were outstanding. They were fresh, genereous in size & skillfully prepared. In fact, every pieces of sushi are much bigger than others from other sushi restaurants, it took half the pieces to get me full. The service however was not the best. The waitress was respectful but she seemed a bit impatient & not that friendly or welcoming. We did go in the restaurant 45 mins before closing so that might be why she wasn't as enthusiastic to serve our table.

(7 months ago) I tried their gourmet combo & I have to say that I find a 45$ combo for one person to be quite expensive. I would have liked to see a few more unique or expensive cuts for the nigiri or the sashimi considering the price. Still, I was not disappointed by the food & it was truly outstanding. I really enjoyed the freshness of the ingredients, the play in texture in the bigger roll & my favourite piece, the fresh scallop sushi. All the ingredients are splendid which makes their sushi that much better than a lot of other restaurants. Furthermore, their soya sauce has a flawless amount of saltiness & umami flavours to me. It's at the point where it doesn't overpower the flavours of the ingredients themselves & adds a layer of depth to the food which was terrific. I do feel like a little bit more sweetness would be even better but then it does come down to personal preferences. I am also delighted to see that they separated the mayo instead of putting it all over the sushi like plenty of other restaurants which ruins the flavours for me. Personally, I woupd love to eat more of that gourmet combo but it is difficult at that price. I definitely want to try their less expensive combos when I have the chance to see if the quality is also on par which their gourmet one.

Service & food were excellent. Very friendly. Only thing I wasn't dan of was the mango ice cream. Too many flavours with the fruit jam, couldn't taste the mango. Other than that, all perfect. Will go back.

Fresh sushi as always. I recommend any cappacios fish plate as well as premium sashimi (salmon or tuna). These items can be off the menu but you can always ask the owner. Very rare place where you can try real wasabi (from the root itself). Normal wasabi is made of wasabi powder & not the real root. Lobster pizza & pizza deluxe (smoked salmon) is also wonderful & full of exotic flavour.

Party of 4 arrived on time for our reservation. Restaurant was packed on thanksgiving Monday. Service was excruciatingly slow. Limited staff & noticed the waitress was helping the chef behind the counter by making the sushi however did not wear any gloves while handling food. Sushi was mediocre & some rolls tasted bland/lacked flavour. The food was presented in a dumpling basket with no lining on the bottom, so fried onion strings that were put on top of the sushi (no idea why or who came up with this) all fell through the holes & onto the table when the basket was removed. There was clutter on the side by the open fridge & next to the washrooms (no attempt to hide in the back). Overall experience was “meh” with nothing to mark as “wow” though I will note to appreciate the waitress for providing my friend with a complimentary roll when we advised her that one of the rolls had hard crab shells in it.
