Review Summary

Jun I is widely recognized as a premier destination for high-quality sushi in Montreal, celebrated for its fresh ingredients, artistic presentation, and attentive service. Many diners praise the Omakase experience and specialty rolls, noting that the sophisticated flavors and unique textures justify the premium price for special occasions. While the vast majority of guests describe their visits as exceptional and memorable, some recent reviews point to inconsistencies in food quality, slower service intervals, and a perceived decline in ambiance. Despite mixed feedback regarding pacing and pricing, the restaurant remains a top recommendation for those seeking an elevated and authentic Japanese dining experience in the city.

We had the omakase & was really underwhelmed by the experience. I have had omakase around the world & this was the first time I've had to share dishes with my dining partner. The portion sizes were small but ok for omakase I guess, but for 2 people to share a tiny 2 oz portion of black cod was both awkward & comical. I rather you charge me a little more & give me a proper dish on my own. Very weird plating choice, especially coming out of a pandemic. I dined here today with my cousin, but if I was taking a client out it would have been really weird to share those tiny dishes. The flavour & actual dishes were pretty good. The whelks with apples had a nice balance of acid & sweet. We really enjoyed the grilled octopus & nori paste. Smokey & full of umami. The black cod was well cooked but really tiny. The dessert was delicious, seasonal strawberry & rhubarb with a nice light sabayon. But the worst part of the meal was the sushi. Really disappointed. Aside from a pretty good tuna roll, everything else was just blah. First of all, I would not expect Maki rolls & creamy stuff on a omakase menu. I was expecting high quality sushi nigiri. Some of the creamy mayo stuff crab & scallop & some fried sushi roll was just gross. The fish was not sliced uniformly. Service was ok, friendly but not very intuitive. I had finished my beer after second course & was going to order more saké. But server didn't ask about another drink until we were halfway done the sushi course, by then I said forget it, not spending more money here. I had high hopes for this place & there were definitely some winners but overall was underwhelming & would not go back or recommend.

On y retourne? N'importe quand!
