Masterful work in time/seating accommodation & expo from Hugo - Front of house
The grill is excellent (octopus & flank steak)
Calamari are cut small but seasoned & crispy Desserts are well made with strong contrasting citrus flavours
My friends & I loved our dinner at Josephine so much that the next night, we skipped dessert at another restaurant to go back to Josephine for a post-dinner seafood snack! The seafood is so fresh & delicious, & the service & staff so friendly & welcoming. The dish we really wanted (the grilled lobster) had just been sold out, & the server was so amazing & friendly, joking with us about our feigned disappointment. A big highlight of our trip!

The restaurant design is beautiful. The food sublime & delicious. Hugo, who has the pride of an owner for this restaurant, hooked us up with wine we'd never had that we loved ( & we are picky winos) as well as honestly suggesting the best dishes in the house. The lobster ravioli ( fresh pasta)& the steak was to die for. The grilled zucchini, heaven. The calimari, delicious & didnt taste like the bad fried versions we all know. The almond cake for dessert, so light, flavorful & yummy. Sauveria was also so lovely with us. They both were a joy. You felt completely welcome. Can't wait to go back.
We had difficulty finding reservations for the upcoming Father's Day weekend. Called & they said they could squeeze us in at the oyster bar at 19:00. We walked over nearly a half hour early & were seated in their pleasant sidewalk outdoor area. Our waiter, Thomas was nice, efficient & accurate with his recommendations. My wife had fried calamari, not overcooked, light, crunchy crust, just the right amount for one person. I tried each of the 4 types of oysters offered that evening, simply with lemon & jalapeno sauce which I didn't use. My wife ordered a grilled lobster, well prepared & simple. I ordered sea bass with a reduction sauce, mushrooms, clams & asparagus. Fish was moist, not overcooked with crispy skin. Skipped dessert. Sorry, I ate the oysters before the photo.
Excellent repas & excellent service!
Merciiii

I have been with my girlfriend last night to celebrate our anniversary & the reception was simply the best! We got surprise us with a shot of drink & a excellent dessert that the restaurant provided us. Joséphine is now in my list of the greatests Montreal's restaurants & I really recommend it for all! Thanks, Joséphine, for the wonderful experience!!
The waitstaff (not busboys who are great) are not observant at all. No side plates, cutlery, forgetful on orders & unprofessional. Service took way too long, we were two people & a set menu took 2.5hours. Took about 15 minutes for our server to say hello to us.
Creme caramel dessert was a let down, the texture was off. Tartare & lobster roll were delicious.
Located a the immediate corner of Duluth & St. Denis, Josephine has a very pleasant, warm if dimly lit locale with a central bar area separating the restaurant into two approximately equal sized halves. We visited during the MTL A TABLE event so the menu was limited (see image) but the restaurant has an emphasis on seafood. The ranking is difficult & would have received 4.5 stars as the meals were on the cusp of very good versus good but something kept holding it back. For our appetizers we had the salmon tartare (good but missing something, like an avocado base) & the butternut squash soup (beautiful presentation, tasty but was served lukewarm)...for our mains we had the Shrimp Tagliolini (good but not over the top) & the Braised Beef (very good, great sauce but too dry...like it had been under the heater for an extended period of time)...&, finally, for dessert we had the chocolate mousse (great toffee crunch on the top but the mousse itself had a bizarre spice added to it that was slightly off putting) & the crème caramel (good). As mentioned earlier, it had great potential but something was either missing or odd in almost all dishes. The service, however, was excellent & there was no shortage of staff available to take our order, delivery plates or just make sure everything was ok. Enjoy!
