Foie gras double down was nothing short of incredible. Enjoyed all other dishes, too. The service was excellent, & so it was the atmosphere. I am really looking forward to being back.

Maybe it was because we aren't used to French food, but the rabbit & the veal dishes were almost an edible. The halibut I had personally was quite good though a very small serving for the price. The drinks were great! The service was excellent! & it was a quirky, comfortable atmosphere & not too terribly loud in a small space.

One of us got stomach pains & needed to throw up after eating the seafood platter. He skipped the rest of the dinner in the washroom.

The busgirl dropped the container full of sauce over my son's shoulder but continued to serve the dishes without taking any action or apologize.

Very disappointed with the experience for the price.

Food was good. Very small portions so they discourage sharing dishes. Second time here & I don't think I will go back again. Lots of other places to try for this amount of money. Not sure I can recommend you to come here unless you have too much money to burn.

We were really excited to try Joe Beef & made our reservation a month in advance, so our expectations were high.
Unfortunately, the experience fell short. We were seated at an extremely small, crowded table where we had to physically move the table just to go between the tables to get to the seat. It made the entire meal feel uncomfortable from the start. On top of that it was so loud, we could hardly hear each other or the server.
What stood out most was the service dynamic around us. The tables on either side appeared to be regulars or known to staff, & the difference in treatment was very noticeable. Staff were highly attentive & social with those tables, even sharing drinks with them & bringing them special dishes, while we felt largely overlooked. It created an awkward atmosphere where we felt like second-class guests.
The hostess repeatedly bumped into my husband while engaging with the neighboring table, enthusiastically describing special dishes she planned to bring them, which added to the feeling that attention was being directed elsewhere.
As for the food, it didn't live up to the hype. The server strongly pushed starters, & while the drinks were good, the overall meal was underwhelming. Dessert was just okay.
By the end of the evening, we were ready to leave. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, not worth it, & we won't be returning.

From the drink options to the food everything was fantastic! All the dishes were complex & the contrast between the casual atmosphere & fine dining dishes made it an amazing meal.
.
Although their menu changes quite often, if you have the chance, the suckling pig was some of the best food I've ever eaten, & the homemade ham was absolutely worth ordering

One of the best meals & experiences I've ever had.

First the food - We had the raw scallop, escargot, lettuces, rabbit, lobster spaghetti & the Marjolaine for dessert. Flavors were complex yet clear, rich & dense without being overly heavy, beautifully crafted, cooked perfectly. We hesitated to order the lobster spaghetti wondering if it was just online hype but we were not disappointed in the slightest - perfect al dente cook on the pasta with a beautifully creamy & rich bisque-like sauce. The rabbit was so bold, rich & complex it was truly one of the most unique dishes I've ever had. But the raw scallop to start honestly stole the show. So fresh & vibrant - excellent way to start the meal. Don't sleep on the lettuce either it was a great refreshing compliment to a rich meal. You also just have to face palm yourself in amusement when you have such an incredible, unique & special dinner then make it to dessert & casually order the signature cake with a cappuccino & think'wait is THIS the best thing??'

The atmosphere - everything feels so intentional & meticulously chosen/placed yet completely unpretentious. The lighting is excellent & comfortable. Each room with slightly different character. The antiques, art, lamps, wall papers, etc. communicate the neighborhood's rich history as a former antique/furniture area.

The service - we sat at the bar & at first said that we wish we could have scored a table & now I never want to sit anywhere else. The entire bar team was absolutely excellent. Our server - Edouard I believe was is name - was absolutely fantastic guide through the menu & took our experience to the next level. Made suggestions, helped us pair drinks, coursed the meals out at a perfect pace, chatted with us & had us laughing & truly just took our entire experience to the next level. Ordering here is NOT easy, I wish I could have had everything & I always suffer from order envy - but Edouard helped us craft a perfectly balanced & complete meal. He also shared with us the history of the neighborhood &'Joe Beef' himself which was fascinating & special. The other server behind the bar - JJ - was equally kind & charismatic & after we told them we were celebrating our anniversary & what we enjoyed doing the entire bar team seamed to come together to write us a list of recommended bars, restaurants & places to see music.

Not only will be we back… this place has me wanting to move to Montreal.

Food is OK, but not worth this amount of money : 3 people, 3 dishes, 1 glass of wine & 1 dessert + tip = 360$. Too much salt.

Un peu cher pour ce que c'est. Bon... on voulait voir; on a vu. On y retournera pas.

A lot of buzz around this place... Not sure why, but it's totally overrated.

My partner & I were so excited for our reservation, but unfortunately we thought a lot of most dishes we had were average in comparison to the ones we had at its sister restaurant Liverpool House which really set our expectations high for what to expect here.

Julien provided truly warm & thoughtful service, adding a lovely personal touch to the evening. The ambience is charming-perfect for a special occasion. While I found most of the dishes to be fairly average, the spaghetti with lobster was a standout & the one dish I'd return for. The steak, however, didn't quite hit the mark for me. Overall, it's a trendy spot in a lively, sought-after location-definitely worth experiencing at least once.

Theis is great place to experience French cuisine. It has lots of simple dishes focusing on flavour & butter. Lots of butter! Definitely a treat your self experience where you can indulge. Good place for special occasions with mates or partners. A must if you wanna do fancy dinner in Montreal. Just be prepared to spend a little more. But worth it for food connoisseurs.

Great food overall, but I think it has lost some of its greatness. I recall how difficult it was to get a reservation here 10 years ago. Yes, it is still tough to get the prime reservation time. We were able to snag last-minute reservations for 9:30 p.m.

The restaurant was packed! Clearly, it continues to be a popular spot. Our server was friendly, consistent with everyone's observation that outstanding service is its key strength!

The dishes that we had were all decent, but nothing out of this world. The bone marrow had an interesting spin, but the chawanmushi (Japanese steamed egg) became the main ingredient for the dish, rather than tasting much of the bone marrow & uni.

The server recommended the duck, which happens to be our pick as well. But the meat wasn't as tender as I'd like. The side dish- carrots, turned out to be my favorite dish for the night.

To be quite honest, this was a restaurant I have been looking forward to trying since I came to Montreal. Reservations are incredibly difficult to get, you have to plan weeks & weeks ahead… so when we finally went we were so disappointed with our experience.

The food is very mediocre, we ordered the coquettes, specials (savory eclair, & some eggs Benedict with crab?), lobster pasta, fries & hanger steak.

The lobster is as if you took a frozen lobster, boiled it, then served it on a plate. The pasta sauce was curdled & had no flavour. Fries were stale tasting. Eclair was good, croquettes needed a kick like lemon or salt or some flavour (they were shrimp), & the snow crabs eggs Benedict was good but also had minimal flavour.

For a restaurant of this alleged calibre, you would expect so much more. I would've said maybe it was a bad day for them, but 4/6 dishes being mediocre? I don't think so.

Service was good but shame that the food was not. Don't think I'll be coming back.

Disappointed at Joe Beef - Expected Greatness, Got Mediocrity

We recently dined at Joe Beef with high expectations & an appetite to match. Our meal included several appetizers - Boston scallops (served raw), a dozen oysters, escargots, & croquettes - followed by mains of lobster pasta, guinea hen, a 26 oz ribeye steak, & two orders of fries. We shared a bottle of German Riesling & skipped dessert. The total bill came to just over $700 CAD, including an 18% tip.

Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the restaurant's reputation.

Appetizers:
The scallops were delicate & fresh - easily the highlight of the evening. However, the oysters were surprisingly dry & underwhelming. The snails were enjoyable but nothing memorable, & the croquettes, while decent, felt like an afterthought on the plate.

Mains:
The ribeye was generously sized but excessively fatty, which diminished the enjoyment. Both sauces - a red wine reduction & a peppercorn - were well-executed & helped elevate the dish slightly. The guinea hen was overly rich & lacked balance, leaving a heavy impression rather than a satisfying one.

As for the much-anticipated lobster pasta, it was, at best, average. For $71, we expected something outstanding - especially from a restaurant of this calibre. Instead, it was comparable to a dish from a far more casual eatery. The lobster itself was small & likely frozen, which detracted from both the texture & the flavour.

Service & Wine:
Service was professional & kind & the Riesling paired well with the seafood, but even great service couldn't compensate for the overall mediocrity of the food.

In the end, Joe Beef simply didn't deliver the calibre of cuisine or experience its price point & reputation suggest. While not a terrible meal, it was an unmemorable one - & certainly not worth the cost. I wish we took more photos, attached are what we have.

Perhaps an off night, maybe we ordered the wrong dishes, but this was our experience.

Truly one of the most memorable meals I've had, with incredible hospitality that is core to the DNA of Montreal & can't be found anywhere else. Seafood platter was insanely good. Wine was fantastic. The cooked dishes were good but really outshined by the seafood platter. It's worth trying to get the reservation.

Beautiful restaurant with a very nice interior design, atmosphere, & overall layout. The food was good, some dishes like the butternut squash soup & salted caramel dessert were fantastic while others like the steak & mushrooms pictured below were just okay. Overall a very nice restaurant, for the price I would hoped for a bit more; however this style of food isn't my favourite so take that into consideration.

Dining at Joe Beef was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by a warm, lively atmosphere that set the tone for the evening. The service was exceptional-attentive, knowledgeable, & friendly, making us feel right at home despite it being a busy night.

The menu is a perfect blend of creativity & classic comfort, with every dish bursting with bold flavors. We started with a selection of appetizers, & each one was a standout. The foie gras was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, & the oysters were fresh & briny-an excellent start to what would be an amazing meal.

For the main course, I had the steak frites, which was cooked to perfection-tender, juicy, & full of flavor. The sides were equally impressive, with the roasted vegetables being a particular highlight. Everything was beautifully presented, & the portions were generous, making each bite more enjoyable than the last.

The wine list is extensive, & the sommelier's recommendation perfectly paired with our meal, elevating the whole experience.

Joe Beef is more than just a meal; it's an experience. The vibrant atmosphere, exceptional service, & unforgettable dishes make it a must-visit for anyone in Montreal. It's clear that the chefs & staff take immense pride in what they do, & that care translates into every dish served. Highly recommend!

Really solid food, did not disappoint. But not spectacular. The service & vibe was great, would definitely go back for the vibes. Water was also filled & the staff were warm & efficient.

The foie terrine was solid. Duck was solid as well, but have had better else where. My favourite was probably the caramel pudding, it managed to be not too sweet.

Their lobster pasta is what they're known for & I found it a bit disappointing. The pasta was a bit bitter from the lobster. As well, the flavours did not come together that well, I could taste the lobster, butter & other ingredients separately but didn't come together all that well. It's like a bunch of fancy ingredients that didn't necessarily form one cohesive dish. Out of all the dishes the lobster pasta is the only one I wouldn't recommend.

Dining at this highly acclaimed establishment was exceptional. The unpretentious decor & the smell of cooking triggered a nostalgic feeling, reminding me of my grandma's kitchen. The waitstaff exhibited flawless hôtelier etiquette & were knowledgeable about the menu & wine list. The waitress suggested a few dishes to share, thoughtfully separated into three courses. The dishes were straightforwardly presented without any fancy-pancy plating style, this simplicity allowed the quality & flavors of the dishes to shine through. The waitress also suggested a bottle of red with soft tannins & a smooth finish, not overpowering the delicate flavors of the food. For my wife's special occasion, she was treated to two complimentary desserts & a large fresh potato. Thanks to Maurane, we had a wonderful evening.
