Really great wine & cocktails, we tried the bread, the eggplant dip & the potatoes with halloumi, all were quite good but the potatoes were very greasy. I found the glasses of wine & cocktails to be pretty pricey though.
The service, however, was very good but a little slow, especially on a quiet night. They stopped checking in on us after we had finished our food & second drink, we might have ordered more if asked but they seemed to be running around trying to deal with other patrons. That was okay, my friend & I mostly just needed a quiet & nice place to talk & catch up, so we didnt really mind.
The restaurant itself is quite nice & warmly decorated, but a bit of an overall weird layout.
Had the first day of their new tasting menu & it was fantastic! I had the veg option & my table got the classic menu, & both were phenomenal. Amazing service from Kim & Noah. The wines were excellent quality, & came with in depth & meaningful stories.
We were visiting Montreal for the weekend & many friends recommended Nora Gray. We got boxed out there & the Nora Gray maitre'd recommended Heni. So we ate at the bar at Heni. The experience was wonderful. We loved the Heni hostess/bartender/maitre'd. She recommended great wine. The food was delicious. The hummus & kale dip were yummy. The steak was particularly great - who knew blue cheese marinade could subtly shape flavor so nicely!! The spicy fish was not spicy but still tasty. A lovely evening that we won't forget.
Love this place! Service is excellent, both drinks & food. Also, if you like knowing the background of the wine &/or food they will gladly explain everything in detail. People complain about price & portion size but I left happy with both. I assume the problem is that most people assume middle eastern food should be inexpensive because we've been conditioned to think this.
The tasting menu & the wine pairing were exquisite!! The food was imaginative, delicious, & beautifully presented, & the wine selection & pairing was one of the best I've ever had!! Plus, the service was excellent & the owner was extremely hospitable & very knowledgeably about middle eastern food, flavours, & wine!!
Beautiful setting, but underwhelming experience overall.
I had high hopes for this restaurant - the place is absolutely beautiful, with a lovely patio & friendly service. We ordered five à la carte items & the first two were truly excellent: the mosaïque of aubergines was delicious & the kibbeh nayeh was incredibly flavorful - a great start that really set expectations.
Unfortunately, the main dishes fell short. We shared the spicy fish & the kebab of the season. The'spicy' fish was simply a small salmon filet with a plain tahini sauce - not spicy at all &, at $32, it felt overpriced, especially in a place known for its elevated cuisine. The choice of fish & lack of depth in the dish was disappointing.
The kebab was the biggest letdown. What was served appeared to be two skewers with small pieces that looked & tasted like mushrooms. The new waitress first told us it was mushroom, then returned after checking with her colleague to say it was meat - but after trying it, it was clearly mushroom. We pointed this out again, but aside from a quick apology, there was no real acknowledgment or gesture to correct the issue. It was a frustrating moment, especially given the miscommunication & the price point.
We ended with the atayef, but again, it was disappointing - overly fried, oily, & stuffed with halloumi, which didn't balance well.
On a positive note, the wine list was interesting, & we did enjoy the glasses we had. I really wanted to love this place, & I'm all for supporting new restaurants - but unfortunately, the experience left us underwhelmed, especially for a first visit & at this price point.
Tried out Heni for date night & went with the tasting menu - such a great choice. Every course was thoughtful, delicious, & beautifully explained. They were also incredibly accommodating of my partner being pescatarian, with a planned replacement for each course that fit seamlessly into the experience. Amber's service & wine pairings were spot on, & her descriptions of each wine really added something special. Just an all-around fantastic night out. Thank you!!!
Excellent food, cocktails & wonderful Lebanese wines. I wish the menu had more variety & the chairs are very uncomfortable.
I think it is ok, but not great if you are looking for a Mediterranean experience. We had tasting menu with alcohol pairings. Service is really great. Cocktails were not to my taste, wines were good, great selection of Lebanese wines which was really nice. Food was a little of a let down, I LOVE Mediterranean food, especially Lebanese & Syrian which have amazing flavours, but the one served at Heni was rather bland. It was still good, but not what I came for. Would recommend for 5a7 style dinner but there are definitely better options for an actual Mediterranean experience.
Everything about this spot was amazing. The wine. The food. The service. Such an incredible experience. We did the tasting menu with the wine pairing, 100% recommended if you're tempted.
Definitely one of the best additions to the neighbourhood in a while. The tasting menu was impressive, the wine was amazing, & the dessert was stunning. Tens across the board.
Amazing service & location. Although food was good, there was nothing completely out of the ordinary. Wine pairing was good & no too expensive.
Heni is a foodie paradise. This is Mediterranean food with a twist, where fresh ingredients from local Québec farms are used in place of imported products to create new taste experiences. The result is an amazing fusion of the fresh & the exotic. Topping it all off, the wine pairing was one of the best we've had in a long while. We hope to be back soon.
My group & I were generally not super impressed with our experience at Heni. The restaurant was presented to us a Middle Eastearn & North African cuisine, yet no mocktails or alcohol free drinks appeared on the menu. Our server informed us uppon asking that the two cocktails shown (18$), are just as good without the alcohol. Seemed liked a missed opportunity to have a well crafted mocktail list. We got the tasting menu, of which we genuinely loved one dish - the tuna. We asked about replacing an item in the tasting menu with another & were discouraged to do so, & ended up adding the quail dish. Good thing we did because the quail was great! The rest of the menu lacked the something special that the tuna & quail dishes seemed to have, especially for the price (313$ for two people, including a bottle of wine & tip).
Amazing food accompanied by delicious Libyan wine- Rami's passion for both was infectious!
What an amazing experience at HENI, thanks to Timeleft (meeting people app) -I met the great group of people Timeleft organized there & was blown away by the warm welcome & fast service! The owner was super charming & let us sample a variety of dishes, & while there weren't as many vegetarian options as I'd hoped, everything was incredibly delicious. We paired the meal with some great wine, & though I spent a bit more than expected, it was worth every penny. The cultural richness & thought behind the menu are truly impressive. Don't miss out on trying these fantastic dishes!
The wine at this restaurant was excellent however the food didn't live up to expectations at all & we were pretty underwhelmed. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.
Really wanted to love this spot. The concept is great. Front of house staff were friendly & knowledgeable. Wine program was impressive with some interesting by the glass offerings. The vegetarian dishes were pretty disappointing. Based on other reviews the omnivore dishes might be better.
Wonderful creative dishes. Quality presentation & very helpful staff. Excellent choice of Lebanese wines not available through the SAQ. Happy to have returned & made new discoveries each time.
