Fous Dessert is an excellent all-around bakery, the best I've had in Montreal. I love that they have a diverse offering; pastries, breads, cookies, chocolate, drinks. Their cakes are divine, & even their take-home tea & infusion selection is awesome (highly recommend the hibiscus 🌺). They also have some of the best, well-balanced gelato in Montreal, specially the strawberry 🍓.

My only suggestion is that I wish they were open until a little later in the summer. Or, there could perhaps be an ice-cream cart outside until 7-8 pm at least. 🫶🏻 We would love to enjoy the ice-cream after work on the weekdays or even weekends, but it's difficult if the store closes at 6 pm :(

Ordered a birthday cake, but the order wasn't ready & told me it was on the wrong day. Double checked the receipt & they were wrong, they said they'll prepare it. When I got there to pick it up, they once again said it was for the wrong day.

They packaged the cakes weirdly vertically, & the cakes were smushed when I got home. Worst part was that the cakes were overpriced & didn't taste good (I've had Japanese fusion cakes before & it was not like that). Their ice cream is pretty good tho, so try that in the summer.

Great selection of warm drinks. I had the chance to try their hojicha latte with soy milk. They have many vegetarian friendly desserts from macha-almond croissants to yuzu flavored chocolates, Unfortunately apart from drinks & a small selection of sorbets, there weren't any plant-based pastries or cakes. Nonetheless, it's a pretty unique fusion (Japanese-French) to see for a bakery.

Au-delà des étoiles.

Il faut aller au-delà des étoiles d’une évaluation sur Google, parce que les quatre ou même trois étoiles peuvent receler de fabuleux trésors. Ces notations sont souvent simplistes, parfois même dénuées de justification, & je n’y accorde généralement que peu d’attention (bien sûr, une multitude d’avis négatifs suscite naturellement quelques inquiétudes).

Pourquoi cette mise en garde Eh bien, voici, pour attribuer mes quatre étoiles à cet endroit, j’ai effectué une moyenne mathématique entre les créations que j’ai aimées & celles que j’ai adorées (suivant la terminologie de Google). Cependant, si je m’en tenais simplement à cela, vous n’auriez aucune idée à quel point j’ai été conquis par leur divine tarte aux pêches. In-cro-ya-ble. Le croquant au chocolat ne démérite pas non plus, & le moelleux «?cake?» au matcha est le parfait compagnon d’un thé blanc. Côté chocolat, celui à l’Earl Grey nous a également ravis.

Nonobstant, le reste n’a pas engendré en nous d’aussi vifs sentiments. Oh. Le niveau de qualité & de raffinement est incontestablement élevé?; il est évident que nous avons affaire à des pâtissières talentueuses, dignes d’un «?cinq étoiles?». Un «?cinq étoiles?» assuré pour cet aspect. Là n’est pas la question. Toutefois, telle est l’essence de mon propos : qualité & raffinement ne riment pas toujours avec agrément absolu. Figurez-vous que je n’ai jamais d’aussi LOURDS croissants de ma vie. Des desserts, en somme, le plaisir n’était pas en proportion de leur poids ni de leur prix. En outre, la majorité des chocolats, beaux à croquer, ne révélait pas nécessairement une saveur intérieure digne d’écrire une lettre à ma grand-mère.

Dans la circonstance, si je devais un jour me pointer le nez à nouveau au Fous Desserts, je jetterais mon dévolu sur leurs gâteaux & tartes & je reluquerais certainement quelques autres préparations du présentoir dans l’espoir de dénicher quelques perles gustatives.
