If Ferreira Café has quickly established itself as one of the best restaurants in town, there is no mystery: a visionary owner, an inspired chef, high quality products and a talented and dedicated team. In Montreal, Ferreira Café gives the Portuguese cuisine all its nobility.
Reviewers describe Ferreira Café as an elegant, intimate setting with chic Portuguese influences and a strong focus on fresh seafood. The menu is praised for beautifully balanced dishes, high quality ingredients, and care in both flavors and presentation. The service is repeatedly described as attentive, knowledgeable, and professional, though a few guests note occasional lapses when the restaurant is busy. Many guests praise standout items such as octopus, black cod, bouillabaisse, and other seafood specialties, with compliments on generous portions and thoughtful pairings. The wine list and cocktails receive frequent praise, and the open kitchen adds to the lively, upscale vibe. Prices are described as high and some feel value does not always match the cost, along with occasional notes about additional charges for bread or olives. A few reviews note noise level or occasional off nights where dishes arrive not as hot as expected, but the overall sentiment remains highly favorable. Overall, Ferreira Café stands out in Montreal for authentic Portuguese dining and top-tier seafood, delivering a refined yet welcoming experience that many would happily return for.
My favorite restaurant in Montreal. Incredible selection of fresh fish, & our waiter was so helpful in describing them as well as a great recommendation for Portuguese wine. The atmosphere is vibrant but not noisy, & we could see both the fresh fish display & the open kitchen, A wonderful experience.
Insanely the best Portuguese restaurant in the city. Longest lasting, amazing staff, excellent service & the cuisine is just on a whole other level. If you haven't tried this place please do. The upscale vibe & setting makes it perfect for a fancy date night or a night out with the girls
Great selection of fish plates & then some daily specials. specials. I am sorry but when the main dishes came I started on my salmon & after I finished I started to take pictures of the other dishes. It was all great.
Funny story. I was with a visitor, & it was time to eat but so late that many places were closed. I did a quick Google search as we wandered in the rain for a nearby spot that was decent but affordable. I chose this establishment, as I recognized the name & assumed that as it was Ferreira CAFÉ, that it was the simplified bistro/café within the Ferreira restaurant group. I was expecting a small selection of soups, salads, paninis, viennoisseries, coffee. While I might have gotten clued in when we were asked if we had had reservations, I only fully realized my enormous mistake once we were smoothly seated, our wet coats taken to the cloak room, & I opened the menu & started examining it. 🫠😆 Omg. I was mortified. I am currently at a point in my life where I am conserving the last few dollars on my Starbucks account as a special treat for myself for around the Winter Holidays. I am not at a point in my life where I can casually wander into one of Montreal's most famous fine dining experiences. Fortunately, it was simply funny, & we enjoyed a wonderful dinner at a pleasantrestaurantwith excellent service. I ordered the bread basket... in part because I actually wasn't very hungry, & also because I wasso mortified & it was $5. It was a small sliced fresh crusty sourdough roll with a wonderful fluffy, soft crumb, served to perfection with little cups of herbaceous olive oil & seasoned olives. We shared the tasting dessert plate of their Portugese specialties, which was simply everything I could have possibly wanted, tasty & beautifully presented. Rich, creamy chocolate mousse, delicate rice pudding, warm churros. Perfection. Not only do I have a new amusing vignette to share in conversation, but I have finally been to the one & only Ferreira Café. Which is not a café. Don't make my mistake!
Food was absolutely phenomenal. The best Portuguese restaurant I’ve ever eaten at by far. Everything from the appetizer to dessert was delicious. The best service I’ve ever had. Our glasses never went empty. A huge thank you to our server Michael for going above & beyond. Can’t wait to go back.

The food & the atmosphere was amazing. The waiter Mike was friendly & always made sure we were taken care of. This is the best service & experience by far & they went above & beyond my expectations. We never waited for anything & the whole team at Ferreira’s worked together to ensure their guests were happy, & were never waiting for service. Our waters were always filled without asking. Our wine glasses were always being filled & it was not overwhelming at all & just right. The food is to die for & I will definitely be a return customer. Thank you to the staff at Ferreira Cafe for the best experience.
One of our best Portuguese dinner ever. Rice with fruit du mer & grilled halibut were excellent. Expertly chosen Portuguese wines. Very good staff. However, its atmosphere on a Thursday evening (7pm) was horrible - sound proofing did not work well & the weird/loud/annoying music spoiled what could have been a fondly memorable dinner.
Excellente atmosphère, un must!
