About

Fay Wong presents a comprehensive menu centered on traditional Szechuan and broader Asian culinary techniques. Diners encounter a wide array of preparations ranging from stir-fried noodle dishes to robust meat plates characterized by the signature heat and numbing spice profiles inherent to regional Chinese cooking. The kitchen maintains high standards for ingredient freshness, ensuring that aromatic herbs and pungent spices define the flavor foundation of every offering. Patrons frequently select from various spicy seafood specialties and classic poultry preparations that highlight authentic preparation methods. The interior layout prioritizes functional efficiency, catering to those who appreciate a straightforward approach to regional cuisine without unnecessary flourish. Each dish serves as a testament to established preparation styles, consistently delivering the bold, layered complexity expected from this specific culinary lineage.

Review Summary

Fay Wong receives mixed feedback, with many patrons praising the fresh ingredients, generous portions, and classic comfort food options like Cantonese chow mein and wonton soup. While long-time regulars often describe the restaurant as a staple that consistently satisfies their cravings, others have expressed disappointment regarding recent increases in prices and declining portion sizes. The dining experience varies significantly, as some visitors enjoy a warm, welcoming atmosphere and friendly service, while others report instances of unprofessional staff, long wait times, and inconsistent food quality. Despite these polarized opinions, the restaurant remains a popular choice for those seeking familiar Chinese dishes, though recent concerns about customer service and delivery reliability have led some loyal customers to reconsider their future visits.

I ordered the Combo #1 for take out: hot & sour soup; an egg roll; vegetables & pineapple chicken. The soup was good but not hot; the egg roll was missing; the veg was ordinary & they gave me chicken with cherry sauce that tasted like it had been reheated in a microwave, & not made fresh to order. I guess it's what they had leftovewr after the lunch rush. $31.00. So, never again.

My first time eating at Fay Wong & I will definitely be back!

As soon as you walk into the restuarant, there's a delicious aroma that welcomes you. We were greeted by friendly staff. I had a lot of questions about what comes with the combo & the staff was knowledgeable.

My fiance told me to get a combo because it's a good deal. The meal comes with your choice of soup (wonton or sweet & sour), plus eggroll or spring roll. It also comes with vegetables & rice. For an extra $1, you can change the white rice to noodles & I believe fried rice.

I had the shrimp combo & changed the rice for noodles. The shrimp were cooked perfectly & they were large! I think there was about 8 shrimp. The noodles were mostly soft but there was some crispy noodles too-I love all types of noodles!

The wonton broth was flavorful & the eggroll was crispy!

I'm born & raised in Vancouver & this meal reminded me of the Chinese food I loved in Vancouver. I've been living in Ottawa for 11 years & never had a decent Chinese food meal. I'm moving to Montreal soon & for sure will be coming to Fay Wong for Chinese food!

A staple in NDG for over 20 years, comfort food at it's best. We always get the same dishes & it always hits the spot : Cantonese Chow Mein, Beef Canadian Broccoli, Shrimp Lobster Sauce, Wonton Soup, General Tao, Honey glazed
or Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings ( I can never decide which one is better).

I had such a great experience. The food was fresh, flavorful, & clearly made with care. Every dish we tried was well-seasoned & perfectly cooked - especially the cantonese chow mein & shrimp wonton soup. The staff were friendly & attentive, & the overall atmosphere was warm & welcoming. I'll definitely be coming back!

Haven't been here for 17 years since the time when owner charged me 20$ for won ton soup. Now the restaurant has evolved, more dynamic team & more clean environment. Good spot.

Decent chinese food. Got beef sesame & wanton soup, plus fried rice combo. Soup is not the best, but main meal was okay.

Where do I begin? At a time where a lot of establishments seem no longer concerned about first impressions, service or quality of their dishes, this was a refreshing experience from start to finish. The moment we walked in were immediately greeted by the most warm & welcoming host, & were promptly seated. Our server was rather shy, but quickly adapted to her role, was efficient & carefully double checked that our order was correctly taken. The food arrived quickly & was succulent & crispy in all the right places. We had hot & sour soup, dumplings with peanut butter sauce, both egg & spring rolls, honey garlic ribs, salt & pepper wings, shrimp in lobster sauce, general tao chicken with steamed rice. Everything was super delicious, so full of flavor (my tastebuds were delighted), especially noted, not a high salt content like some other places. Portions were generous, it served 3 of us quite well. We left stuffed & happy. Definitely anticipating my next visit. Btw I also ordered a take-away meal. Great job Fay Wong!
