Review Summary

Farine & Cacao impresses with beautifully crafted pastries, elegant presentation, and inventive flavors that many reviewers rate among the best in Montreal and even Canada, with the staff often described as friendly and attentive. Prices are frequently noted as high and several items are cited as not living up to the cost, including croissants that feel ordinary, desserts that are bland or overly sweet, and some experiences with texture. Nevertheless, standout items are repeatedly mentioned, such as the Paris Brest and the yuzu tart, as well as chocolate and pistachio croissants, with many praising the visual appeal, delicate balance of flavors, and the sense of luxury. The ambiance is described as refined and cozy, with pre-ordering available to secure favorites. Overall, Farine & Cacao offers a high quality patisserie experience with artful desserts, but there is debate about value for money.

Got there before the store opened & managed to snag the last of the croissants after waiting in line for 1.5 hours. They are average croissants, the only one that truly stood out was the raspberry croissant. The forêt noire pastry is mostly whip cream inside & not worth the hype whatsoever. Does it look pretty? Yes. Will I be back? Absolutely not.

Felt like the exclusive club of bakeries. I waited 25 minutes in line outside. Tiny place, upscale, insanely Parisian French (even the staff from what I can tell). Each food item has a surgical, clinical quality. I had creamy lemon tart. It was super yummy, deserves to be eaten very slowly. They had all sorts of artisanal minimalist chocolate bars. I didn't try them but they also look like good gifts for friends or lovers. The staff look you in the eye, elegantly, clearly trained to tone down French effeteness & condescension. I liked that. Prices are high, & seem justified.

Went there today when I read they won a prize for one of the best up & coming pastry shops in the world. The pastries were excellent & deserve a five star but their small variety of croissants were a huge disappointment. Considering the prices & the accolades they received, I expected to be blown away by their croissants. Unfortunately, they're not even as good as cheaper places. They are not flaky, buttery & airy at all. The filling in some of their croissants were good but the croissants themselves just average. They don't compare at all to the ones at Patisserie Rhubarb at the high end or even Croissant Croissant at the affordable end. Stick with the pastries & cakes. The service was very good & they go as quick as they can but you have to wait a long time to get in as the line is long especially after all this PR they recently received from their award.

If you're in Montreal & craving pastries, this spot is a must-visit! While not the best in the world, as claimed recently, but it's certainly one of the great one in the city. The pastries are rich & buttery, though a bit too sweet. The cozy ambiance is perfect for a treat, but the coffee could be better. Overall, a delightful indulgence, just be ready for a sugar rush!

Expect to be served with bare hands. Staff reluctantly serve food with bare hands, croissants, muffins, etc. Very gross. I have tried croissant, & it was slightly above average. Cake was just overly sweet & nothing else. Sadly. A lot of hipe & supposedly nice ingredients, but far from the best. Average Parisien gastronomie.

Definitely to be visited. We went for all types of croissants, an Americano & two pastries (Paris Brest & Chocolat & Caramel). Everything was great. Particularly liked the croissants - plain, chocolate, almond & strawberry. Americano was good too. The gentleman was very friendly & explained the items very well, including the homemade chocolates collection they have. There's about 15 people seating capacity inside. Plenty of street parking available on both sides of the street although we had a traffic backed up on a weekday evening till about 5-6 intersections, so we just parked at one point & walked about two intersections. Definitely recommended!!
