Reviews for Fairmount Bagel Bakery
Reviews often mention
fresh(66) sesame(66) cheese(62) cash(36) debit(30) shop(29) viateur(29) dozen(22) canadian(21) salmon(19) garlic(18) oven(18)Good bagel. It's grab & go, so you take it & run away with your bagel. Also cash/debit only.
It's been a long time since I was last here. Stopped by for our usuals. Extremely disappointed. Long lineups, rude servers, tiny hard tough chewy bagels, & expensive. The bagels at Costco & Loblaws is better & cheaper...if only they had more flavours. Guess the hunt is on for a new bagel place. ☹️ 😞
Ohh my god. This is the holy grail. Do not walk run. Take my money, I am addicted.
Si vous voulez goûter les bagels montréalais, ce lieu est incontournable aussi bien pour les papilles que pour les yeux !
Having grown up in Ville St Laurent, I frequented Fairmount Bagels often. Now that I've moved away to California, where I can only get the likes of Noah's or Costco bagels - which to a long time Montrealer like yours truly, that's nothing more than a bunch of dough baked in the shape of a donut! That's NOT bagels, Fairmount Bagels which has been around for more than a century - how many restaurants can make similar claims, same recipes at the same tiny hut on Fairmont Avenue at Blvd St-Laurent still unable to meet daily demands of its customers as the stacked up bagels all the way to the ceiling can attest. I bought a dozen the first week at St Viateur (because my sister is busy & can't drive me to Fairmount), so I settled & their bagels - though still Montreal-style & made similarly, they were absolutely horrible. When it comes to bagels, Montreal or New York, there's only one - FAIRMOUNT Bagels - ask anyone who used to live in Montreal & moved away what they want when someone is visiting them from Montreal? YES, can you bring me FAIRMOUNT Bagels!!!‼️‼️‼️👅👅👅👅🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
All my friends from Montreal told me to try these bagels 🥯 , I could taste the difference between the NY style bagels & MTL bagels but being from NY I'm just too use to what I grew up with & these bagels tasted ok but just not for me.
We arrived at the store around 4pm. We got some plain & sesame bagels, & the sesame bagels were still warm. They only accept cash & debit cards. We didn't have CAD. We were told that most debit cards issued by non-Canadian banks would not work, fortunately our debit card worked.
If the line-ups don't assure you that this is a great place & a Montréal staple, then please read the following. I am not a bagel person (Type 1 diabetic) but these bagels are so delicious! When visiting family/friends, I ALWAYS get the special request to bring them Fairmount Bagels! Service is always efficient, & recently, I had Michael help me out. He surpassed my expectations! Thank you Michael!!!! Yes, counter service is basic BUT it is bilingual! As well, they multi-task to be sure to serve more than 1 client at once. Line-ups are crazy on weekends but Tuesday afternoon at 2pm & Wednesday morning at 10am was quick (dated July 16-17, 2024) ** FYI: they are open 24/7. ** Parking (street meters) can be a challenge but so far I've been lucky :-) Space is small & cramped, but this is part of the experience. I never leave without having a nice chat with someone, whether it be a local Quebécois or out-of-town tourists. As for anyone giving a 1-2 star bcuz of method of payment, your reviews are in bad taste & NOT genuine to the food/experience. Reviews are meant to be impartial/unbiased. Please be sure to have currency in the country your are visiting & stop giving bad reviews bcuz you're incompetent travelers (credit card payment means extra fees for merchants which, in turn, increase prices for everyone). This is a small shop offering quality bagels. It's not their job to be converting USD funds into CAD to benefit you. No doubt line-ups are long bcuz of tourists like C. VanderHart. Note: I reported your review bcuz it's not accurate. While waiting in line, I spoke to a local who told me he buys the prepackaged dozen bagels & freezes them, Every morning he microwaves them for 25 seconds & swears it tastes just as good as the fresh ones. Plus, they are less expensive. Thank you to that local man for the tip!!!
The best..whip in & buy some. Many choices. Small take out with an amazing history
Definitely the best bagels I have tried, so fresh & warm, straight form the oven. I would recommend sesame one. I had as well a garlic bagel, but it was a bit too much garlic. Bring cash, they accept debit only from 10$
They only take cash & debit cards, they were so kind to us oblivious tourists that they took the few dollars we had in USD & gave us bagels for free, so kind! The bagels were awesome & every else I went I'd see their bagels in restaurants & cafes. Clearly some of the best in the city. This was also my favorite neighborhood in Montreal, so it was great to eat a great bagel & enjoy the place
