Escondite delivers a vibrant exploration of Mexican street food culture characterized by a bold approach to traditional taco recipes. The menu features an array of corn tortillas loaded with diverse proteins including marinated meats, slow-cooked carnitas, and fresh vegetarian options topped with signature house-made salsas. Beyond the handheld staples, the kitchen focuses on authentic Latin American flavors that highlight citrus profiles, cilantro, and authentic heat levels. The dining room aesthetic incorporates eclectic decor elements that define the energetic atmosphere often associated with contemporary taco bars. Each dish demonstrates a commitment to layered textures and authentic seasoning techniques. This establishment emphasizes a lively environment where flavorful ingredients and creative combinations remain the central focus of the culinary experience for every guest seeking genuine taco variations.
Escondite is widely celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere, creative Mexican-fusion menu, and consistently high-quality cocktails, particularly its popular margaritas. Many diners highlight the exceptional service, describing the staff as welcoming, attentive, and professional, which significantly enhances the overall dining experience. While the majority of guests rave about the fresh, flavorful tacos and popular tasting menus, a few patrons expressed disappointment regarding portion sizes, noting that some dishes can be pricey for the quantity provided. Despite occasional reports of slow service during peak hours, the majority of visitors leave with a very positive impression, frequently praising the beautiful decor and the restaurant's ability to create a fun, memorable environment that encourages repeat visits.
Pretty underwhelming experience. The reviews were glowing! But the service was atrocious & they weren't understaffed or slammed by any means, wgucg . The waitress was abrupt (borderline rude) & a very average wait staff, that kept forgetting things. The food came out before our drinks did (20+ minutes for a simple scotch & soda, asked about it 3 times), which was bizarre. Food wise was very ok (prefacing with we are vegetarian), not a lot of options, the quesadilla that my wife ordered was literally a tortilla with cheese inside & a couple mushrooms. I simply wouldn't recommend this place for vegetarians, there's just not enough to try.
Start here! We went for the L' Experience Escondite at the bar & Kika took care of us with an excellent selection from the menu & a dazzling display of his bartending prowess. Food & drinks you won't soon forget. Kika directed us to the happening spots for salsa dancing & live music downtown. Know what you're looking for & kika can help you get there.
Ho my god! It was a crazy night! A group came twice the amount of what they booked but the staff still managed to make it an amazing & magical evening! Staff are so incredibly friendly & professional! Food is amazing, drinks are great, now I understand why it's always full! Well deserve the wait!

Do not miss this place - specifically for the food & drink. They are not shy with flavors. Amazing drinks, fantastic food. A bee got drunk with me. #sorrynotsorry
I've never had such poor service in a restaurant. From the moment we were seated at our table the waitress made it very clear we were unwelcome. We asked questions about the menu & got very little by way of response. It took forever to get our menus & then an hour to be served & then the order was missing items. When we addressed it she had an attitude & walked away. She never asked if we'd like another drink or if we needed anything.
The food we did receive was, fine. The chilaquiles looked like something you made at home when you're drunk & throw stuff in a bowl - my colleague said it looked like dog food. Fried chicken taco was good - never received our guacamole & chips. The fish taco smelled so bad it made me wonder if it would make me sick. Fresh fish doesn't smell. I'm very surprised given I'd heard great things about the food. Maybe an off night?
When we were able to flag her down she pointed & yelled at me that the item we were waiting for was'coming'. I can completely understand when a restaurant is swamped - it happens - but she made no effort to speak to us or advise us. Every interaction with her made us feel that we shouldn't have come & she didn't want us there. We were there for dinner while on business - we wanted more drinks & were prepared to spend money, but it was clear that it was impossible to order & that she really didn't want our business. Even when we went to pay, she never made eye contact or asked us how our food was, instead stood there with crossed arms looking away. I get it - everyone has a bad day - but I travel all the time, & eat in restaurants frequently & never in my life have I had such poor service. I can understand a kitchen it busy, & service is slow, but that's where the server is supposed to shine. Check in - ask if we need anything. Ask if we want another drink - instead it ruined our evening. I honestly can't recommend this restaurant to anyone - which makes me so sad, because it's a beautiful space in the old port. I'm so disappointed.
Quelle surprise.
Finally a cute retro chic mexican joint in Montreal with a modern twist!
Great food, great drinks, reasonable prices, interresting & warming decor & overall great vibe.
Highly recommended
