Opinions of Duc de Lorraine describe a refined Parisian vibe with an impressive array of pastries and desserts that many reviewers call among the best in Montreal, from oversized croissants to intricate trompe l'oeil creations and a tarte au citron that draws rave comments. The bakery and cafe blend an elegant, cozy atmosphere near Oratoire Saint Joseph with consistently attentive, friendly service that makes guests feel welcome whether celebrating a birthday, enjoying a luxurious brunch, or stopping in for pastry and coffee. The food and desserts are praised for quality and presentation, and the overall experience is often described as charming, polished, and memorable, with a sense that the place truly delivers on its reputation. While prices are frequently noted as high and some guests mention long waits or moments of uneven service, many reviewers feel the combination of flavor, artistry, and service justifies the cost and invites return visits for special occasions or a refined treat.
The pastries are a must try. Their croissants remind me of the ones I had in the south of France. If you're visiting the Oratory & you're looking for a coffee & pastry stop, Duc de Lorraine is your go-to 👌
I had a nice evening with a friend here. The service was good. The pastry is lovely. You can choose to sit beside the windows too. We didnt have any difficulty or bad experience
Excellent choice of fine bakery. I haven't tried their dinner menu, so I can't comment on that. But the pastry items were delicious to say the least. Highly recommend. Their courteous staff & ambience makes it more delicious.
Wow, the bakery doesn't make it seem like the pastry is a waste of one's time because, really, it's really great & all the ingredients are in a pretty good place. The only thing I would say is if you're looking for a place where you can buy a pie then this is all you'll get.
We have been going to Duc de Lorraine since the 60s & it was a real gem! Service was impeccable, pastries & sandwiches were exquisite so much that it became a tradition to us. Yesterday we went around 5:30pm just for a pastry & coffee. We didn't want to spoil dinner so we also ordered a bagel & cream cheese (yes, it WAS on the menu). We were told this was for breakfast only. We had to wait about 15 minutes to have the menus. After our order, we waited about half an hour for the pastry. No shortage of staff so there was no reason to be "ignored" & stalled. In looking at the menu, though, the prices seemed to have quadrupled over the last few years. They try to transform it into a scandalizing expensive place (hamburger about $18, chicken caesar about $26, etc.). Years ago it was much, much better, & the place was always full. These days, people might come for a coffee & a pastry (most are at $8). Wining & dining might cost about $100 or more per person. What a shame!
Every time I visit this fabulous place with incredible design, décor & service especially, the excellent taste of the food comes naturally. Genuine French pastry, extremely tasty croissants & coffees. What a fantastic scenic view form the terrace. A+++

An amazingly tasty croissant with almonds. I would say this is the tastiest one that I have tried in Montreal & very close to Parisian one... Lattes are well done & fresh & rejuvenating which you can't say about other places. In addition the décor & design, & overall ambience is simply great & on the top of everything you may want from a French pastry. Nice outdoor sitting...
Wow! What an incredible view on summer patio, not aware if there any other places offer such a fabulous experience on outdoor terrace, where you are treated as the one & the only customer & the staff guys are always extremely welcoming & friendly & gently service with a happy smile! Wonderful pastry & tastiest coffee! Try almond croissants!

A place to visit daily if you like European style bakery & pastry. Yes there are lots of decent places around, but the scenic view, service, tasty sweets makes this place just adorable. My favorite in Montreal
