Review Summary

Duc de Lorraine is described as a beautiful, Parisian-inspired spot where an elegant atmosphere, warm hospitality, and a dazzling display of pastries create a memorable experience. The pastry selection receives frequent praise for freshness, variety and size, with croissants, mille-feuille, tarte citron and trompe l'oeil creations standing out, and the bakery and café setting pairs well with brunch, coffee, or a special occasion. Service is often noted as attentive and friendly, contributing to a welcoming vibe, though a few reviews mention slower or uneven service at busy times and occasional questions about value. The location near the Oratoire Saint Joseph and the terrace adds to the charm, making it a popular choice for celebrations and for a refined treat. Overall, guests repeatedly report high quality food, impressive desserts, and an ambiance that feels both cozy and upscale, justifying the experience for those seeking a memorable Parisian-inspired outing.

Excellent choice of fine bakery. I haven't tried their dinner menu, so I can't comment on that. But the pastry items were delicious to say the least. Highly recommend. Their courteous staff & ambience makes it more delicious.

Wow, the bakery doesn't make it seem like the pastry is a waste of one's time because, really, it's really great & all the ingredients are in a pretty good place. The only thing I would say is if you're looking for a place where you can buy a pie then this is all you'll get.

We have been going to Duc de Lorraine since the 60s & it was a real gem! Service was impeccable, pastries & sandwiches were exquisite so much that it became a tradition to us. Yesterday we went around 5:30pm just for a pastry & coffee. We didn't want to spoil dinner so we also ordered a bagel & cream cheese (yes, it WAS on the menu). We were told this was for breakfast only. We had to wait about 15 minutes to have the menus. After our order, we waited about half an hour for the pastry. No shortage of staff so there was no reason to be "ignored" & stalled. In looking at the menu, though, the prices seemed to have quadrupled over the last few years. They try to transform it into a scandalizing expensive place (hamburger about $18, chicken caesar about $26, etc.). Years ago it was much, much better, & the place was always full. These days, people might come for a coffee & a pastry (most are at $8). Wining & dining might cost about $100 or more per person. What a shame!

An amazingly tasty croissant with almonds. I would say this is the tastiest one that I have tried in Montreal & very close to Parisian one... Lattes are well done & fresh & rejuvenating which you can't say about other places. In addition the décor & design, & overall ambience is simply great & on the top of everything you may want from a French pastry. Nice outdoor sitting...

I love almond croissants, fruit tarts, chocolate mousses...The coffee here is amazing! Strong & aromatic! Actually I love everything about this Cafe: the pastry, the terrasse, the service! The service is as high as Parisian Patisseries.

A place to visit daily if you like European style bakery & pastry. Yes there are lots of decent places around, but the scenic view, service, tasty sweets makes this place just adorable. My favorite in Montreal
