Review Summary

Duc de Lorraine is widely recognized as a charming and elegant destination in Montreal, offering a sophisticated Parisian atmosphere and a stunning view of Saint Joseph's Oratory. Many visitors are impressed by the visual beauty and artistic quality of the extensive selection of pastries, cakes, and croissants, with highlights like the banana pudding, almond croissants, and custom cakes often praised as delicious. While the dining experience, brunch, and atmosphere frequently earn high marks for being welcoming and memorable for special occasions, some guests find the pricing to be quite high relative to their expectations. Service is generally described as professional, attentive, and warm, though a few visitors have noted inconsistencies in wait times or staffing attentiveness during busier periods. Despite differing opinions on value, the establishment remains a popular spot for those seeking an upscale treat in a beautiful setting.

Exquisite & luxurious with a full cocktail menu, & full brunch/dinner menu, as well as a dessert menu to tickle any fancy. No words to describe. The patio is comfortable but be cautious of where the sun is shining. 10/10 one of the best cafés in all of Canada.

Review during summer time. Once & a while visit for pantries, but not often because of the prices.

Overall, if you can't travel to Paris, just go here. You'll pay to eat, but it will be fun.

Atmosphere: We sat outside on the terrace, it had good space & was quiet enough. The interior was renovated to cater more to show off pastry & they lost some interior space from the many years ago prior. Overall it's a cute spot in a nice corner of the street.

Service: Out waitress which took care of us was outstanding. Regular follow up, making sure we got drinks, main, desserts. Food took a little bit longer than expected which is why I asked for the bill as I asked for desserts. Not a big issue.

*Shout out to the manager who saw we had kids & came over with crayons, he knows what to do. Also to the busboy who made space with the tables because it was a narrow walking path with a table of 3 (that shouldn't have been because of spacing). The staff pays attention.

Food: First off, I can cook if I want to, but sometimes you are just lazy.
-Crocque Madamme $33
-Steak $58
-Kids plate $16 +$11 for apple juice.
-Desserts $11-15,
The bill adds up quickly.

But... I enjoyed the sandwich, it was excellent but I will learn from this one & make it at home with great ingredients. The steak in gravy pepper sauce could have had a better crust on it, it was MR however more towards the rare side which I do like. All the dishes need to do better than just fries, that steak needed veggies or something for $58.

Dessert was hit or miss with the kids. Dubai croissant had a dark chocolate coating but it should have been milk chocolate. Paris Brest was excellent hazelnut flavor but very sweet. Tiramisu is my favorite & was probably the highlight for me. Not even the Mango dish could out taste, out perform a classic Tiramisu. If you want to enjoy a great mango dessert, eat a fresh ripe mango, simple as that.

Food was good overall. We really liked the Onion soup, so rich. Steak & frites was ok but not crazy good.
Service was a little bit slow tbh, we waited long time even to get acknowledged or greeted, just standing there waiting for someone to approach so we can get a table. Same with coffee & desserts.
A little pricey for the overall experience but I guess you're paying a'touristic' rate.

Very limited gluten free options.
The rest of the table enjoyed their desserts. Nothing out of ordinary in the service or the atmosphere.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We had an excellent experience at Duc de Lorraine. The food was outstanding from start to finish. I had the steak & fries, which were cooked perfectly & absolutely delicious. The desserts were beautiful, creative, & tasted as good as they looked.

A special thank you to Sajjad for his friendly, attentive, & professional service. He made us feel very welcome & ensured everything was perfect throughout our visit.

The dessert presentation, complete with singing from the staff, added a fun & memorable touch to the experience. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Montreal!

Thank you, Sajjad, & the entire team for a fantastic dining experience.

Honestly the place looks amazing from the outside. We got a couple drinks there & desserts. I got the quiche & it was really bad, not taste at all. The frites very bad, I mean it's hard to make bad frites & this place has those.
The drinks are good & the service of everyone is amazing they even try to speak Spanish to us kudos for that. The coffee bean dessert not bad but nothing remarkable about it.
I mean just get a drink there after the visit of the oratoire is fine
