Opinions of Duc de Lorraine describe a refined Parisian vibe with an impressive array of pastries and desserts that many reviewers call among the best in Montreal, from oversized croissants to intricate trompe l'oeil creations and a tarte au citron that draws rave comments. The bakery and cafe blend an elegant, cozy atmosphere near Oratoire Saint Joseph with consistently attentive, friendly service that makes guests feel welcome whether celebrating a birthday, enjoying a luxurious brunch, or stopping in for pastry and coffee. The food and desserts are praised for quality and presentation, and the overall experience is often described as charming, polished, and memorable, with a sense that the place truly delivers on its reputation. While prices are frequently noted as high and some guests mention long waits or moments of uneven service, many reviewers feel the combination of flavor, artistry, and service justifies the cost and invites return visits for special occasions or a refined treat.
Nice cozy restaurant but the heating in winter is way too high that at some point we were feeling dizzy. Food was good & so was the dessert but nothing exceptional.
However for such a restaurant the quality of the service is really bad.
I think the owner needs to get properly trained staff who can also understand English. The waiters seem confused all the time & even we changed to French language they seem to have difficulty understanding. The menu is not a big one & yet they made mistake in our order. & I don't understand why it took them forever to bring the dessert (which are already displayed next door) & again they made mistake in the order.
For spending over $350 I would expect much better service from that restaurant.
Overall bit of a disappointment!
Has potential but overrated. French onion soup was sitting out on the pass for so long the bread sucked up all the broth. Lobster pasta, pasta was way too undercooked, cook on the filet not right
Incredible food, welcoming to a family with children. Wine tasting before selecting what to pair with your meal. Authentic French Canadian cuisine, worth the price!! Steak, Salmon, Burgers, Excellent!
There are many stuff on small table & you dont feel comfortable. I went there twice & in both, they asked me to sit where it was next to the entrance. I felt bad. It is not good to place a table in all spaces you found.
I will never go there anymore.
Different waitress came & tried to help but one waitress should be for specific table.
First time I did not have this problem but second time I had a issue with waitress & language.
First time the waitress was so freindly & cool. They let me to talk with them in French no one was in rush.
But in last visit, I felt everybody wanted you to leave.

A beautiful place for spoiling yourself or others. You can take out some delicious French pastry, or eat inside in a beautiful dining area.
We had the elegant Omelette Florentine, a delicately light omelette with spinach & gruyere& tomato, & a delicious & massive Salade Niçoise. For dessert, we've had the Napolitain, Eclair crême Chantlly, & Opéra cake. Their croissants are wonderful too.
Service is of course fantastic, friendly, & attentive. A real treat.
Mind blowing desserts!!! Best place to have creme brûlée 😍😍 but the service was not good as they were so rude not ready to answer our questions, everything was french & I didn't understand so asked few questions before ordering each item after 2 3 questions their faces changed & didn't answer properly.
I heard French exchange students were saying this place is very authentic, so I went to try their pastry. It's absolutely the best I've ever had, I especially loved their croissant & flan, simple & delicious. They also have another type of pastry with various fillings (e.g., caramel, pistachio, chocolate) also tastes great!

Service is great but the food is mediocre. Definitely NOT the best French brunch or the best french pastries in Montreal. Lemeac & Chez Potier are much better options but I guess not "tiktok" popular.
A childhood favorite. The best croissants in Quebec & Ontario combined. A real authentic French experience. So glad they now offer shipping some of their delicacies.
MUST TRY This French pastry shop & restaurant is a must try in montreal! The only negative thing I would add & this is why I give it a 4 star rating is because of how slow they are to bring out 3 already made dessert & two coffees! But if you have time to sit & wait, do try this place out!

It was our first visit & we don't speak much French, & everyone in the restuarant was very gracious, welcoming & patient. The pastries were amazing! :)
Honestly the best French restaurant in town hands down. the service is unparallelled. & Peter is their best kept secret! We celebrated our wedding there & even though we couldn't make up our minds & were rushed on time, Peter kept it nice, cordial & professional & we felt so understood & valued every step of the way. He went above & beyond to provide excellent service to us & our guests. The food was exquisite. Thank you so so much Peter & the Duc de Laurraine Staff. We are officially sold, & we will keep coming back!
Bakery Duc de Loraine offers a delightful array of French pastries & breads, known for their authentic taste & quality. I rave about their croissants & specialty cakes, making it a must-visit for pastry enthusiasts in the area.
This was a truly fabulous experience from the food to the phenomenal service & the amazing selection of desserts. Jonathan provided the utmost in service, patiently enduring our feeble attempts ito speak French, & enthusiastically recommending desserts, drinks, & sights to visit. Thanks Jonathan!
