Meh. We have been to many speakeasies, & unfortunately this one didn't live up to expectations for us. It is a cool location, we were initially seated in a small room just off the main room, it was nice. We had a good time, we had each two drinks each in pretty rapid succession. There was a party of three other people sat in the room with us, they had multiple drinks as well. We were all ordering & drinking in a very timely manner shall we say. For me the drinks were just average, the gambit here is that you tell them what elements you want (gin, whiskey, liquor forward, fruity, bubbles fruity, etc.) & they create a craft cocktail for you. Personally I didn't love either of my drinks, it kind of felt like some of my elements were lost, & it was not what I asked for, it seemed like they had their drinks & they were trying to put what you asked for within their recipes. But really this review would've been higher but for the fact that one of the employees came in & asked all five of us, two separate parties, if we could move to other tables in the main room to make room for a larger party. We had just begun talking to the other party & were enjoying ourselves when we were asked to move.
If you're going to ask people to move then offer a free drink on the house or something. We were taken into the next room & stuffed between two other parties, it really did not feel good to have to move midway through. We won't be back & cannot recommend this place.

I've been bopping around the Montreal cocktail scene for a few days now. It's not fully developed & has a way to go for sure. Cloakroom is the far & away champion. Great intimate feel. Smart engaging staff. Solid spirit selection. I could disappear in there happily on the regular.
Wanted to check out a local spot for something different. Waited about 20 minutes to get a seat. Waiters/bartenders are professional & bilingual. The vibe is cool, tiny but the tables all face the bar so you're looking at everyone's backs. Cocktails were fun, though together with tip (18%) it was $85 CAD for one drink each. Definitely not a place to spend the night drinking, but fun for one before heading somewhere else.

As we walked in the old brownstone entrance, we found ourselves staring at a closed suit shop. Magically, a tall black-clad man appeared from nowhere & ushered us into a dimly lit cozy room teeming with mixologists shaking up delicious concoctions determined by your favorite liquor & flavor profiles, & the bartenders' imagination.🍸 Excellent service & cocktails!

We were excited to visit, we arrived at around 10:30 pm & waited in line for about 30-40 minutes. The line moves fairly fast. Once inside, they have a coat check & the space is intimate & seats about 30ish people. We found the bar seating to be more fun. We got 2 cocktails each & paid 118 Canadian dollars (tip included). If you're looking for a different bar experience & don't mind shelling out for a few crafted cocktails, then I highly recommend this spot!
Nous étions un groupe de 5 & avons dû attendre avant d'entrer car le bar est assez intime & ne peut pas accueillir trop de monde à la fois. Mais l'attente a été loin d'être désagréable : le responsable à l'entrée a été incroyablement sympathique, il revenait régulièrement nous voir pour s'excuser & nous rassurer, ce qui a rendu le moment vraiment agréable.
Une fois à l'intérieur, tout était parfait. La barmaid nous a demandé nos préférences pour créer des cocktails sur mesure, & chacun d'eux était un vrai délice. Le service était attentionné & souriant, on sent qu'ils prennent vraiment soin de leurs clients. Nous avons commencé assis au bar, puis, on nous a offert une petite salle plus intime, réservée d'habitude aux groupes, ce qui a rendu notre soirée encore plus spéciale.
Un endroit raffiné, chaleureux & avec un service irréprochable. Sans hésitation l'une des meilleures expériences que j'ai eues à Montréal. Je recommande vivement & j'y retournerai dès que possible !
We slid in at the perfect time, around 6:00. After that it filled up quickly! We both had delicious, nameless cocktails that we got to really communicate a few things we enjoyed & make our order into a bit more of a conversation than a bark. We had a delicious little welcome palette cleanser drink that was grapefruit & beautiful. I love this place so much & would absolutely recommend!!
Hands down best cocktail bar experience, & we've had quite a few! Very chill vibes with just the right level of musical ambience. Maximilian & Hugo were amazing at listening & delivering. I personally love ordering custom cocktails wherever I go. But Cloakroom went above & beyond anything I expected. We felt warmly welcomed since the minute we entered. Every single person in our party was blown away by every single drink we tasted. They were not only delicious but often elicited strong emotional reactions. We're out-of-towners seeking out North America's best bars, but if I lived in Montréal I honestly think I'd be a regular here! I hope the place never changes coz I'm definitely coming back in future. The cocktails here are objectively great & I understand exactly why this place made the'best bar' lists-the no menu shtick, clean minimalist vibe of the space & cocktails, & polished service lend themselves naturally to those kind of upper crust rankings. The bartenders who discuss your preferences in order to select cocktails are efficient, almost to a fault, to the point that I felt a little boxed in. I appreciate the difficulty of the no menu concept & that you have to distill folks' tastes down into convenient boxes, but'spirit forward gin' doesn't inherently mean Negroni or martini, so I was a little surprised by the rigidity of the drink planning conversation. I can't help but compare it to another small but well known'no menu' bar in town, where my drink-planning conversation was much more organic. Yes, that bartender talked about his own personal favorites & ingredients he was experimenting with & thus placed himself into the conversation more, but it felt much more intimate & personal that way & I've got to say that I preferred that experience to Cloakroom's more sanitized one. That being said, I did end up with 2 delicious drinks at Cloakroom (plus the welcome drink-a really nice touch), but there was nothing else particularly memorable about the experience. The drinks are so balanced (again, objectively great), but there's nothing to make you say'wow'-no surprising moment in the drink, no charming garnish, & those small moments are what make a drink truly memorable in my eyes, & that's missing here. Sometimes I think this is a fault of being a part of the elite list of'the best'-is some bit of character (maybe even some playfulness) lost?

Tucked away, as a speakeasy should be. Our experience had as wait for just a couple of minutes outside the suit store. Led through a short hallway to a great spot. The ambiance, music & team provided the perfect atmosphere. No cocktail menu, rather tell them what you like, love & dislike & they'll make a signature cocktail-just for you!
We loved everything about this experience!
Beautiful speak easy in Montreal. No menu but the bartenders can do vibes. I mean it. Go there, tell them what you're feeling like & you'll get it. Best cocktails I've had in Montreal
While my husband & I were vacationing in Montreal, we were fortunate on two occasions to get into the 25 seat speakeasy The Cloakroom. We had read about this place before leaving the states. It sure didn't disappoint on both occasions.
There is no cocktail menu. They ask you about your preferences & create a masterpiece for you.
From our two experiences we can't say enough good things about the atmosphere, cocktails & the staff. Everyone is so friendly, especially if you sit at the bar.

Hit or miss. Had a few good drinks but nothing that blows you away. The presentation is minimal, mostly consisting of mumbled words in an already busy & loud space. For an establishment that first & foremost should cater to the customer's taste, I've felt rushed to come up with a drink profile, no guidance from the bartender either. When I threw a couple of ideas for a cocktail, the guy just called me out for not making sense. So if you know what you want, you'll probably have fun, but if you come in expecting a relaxed curated experience, this is not it.
Lieu tres original & tres beau. Serveurs au top. Il n'y a pas de menu donc vous choisissez ce que vous souhaitez. En revanche, très decevant d'avoir vu le barman mettre du gin bombay pour un cocktail a 30 dollars (taxes & tips inclus). A ce prix, j'esperais voir un gin de meilleur qualité
