We arrived at 1630pm & there was about 7 people waiting ahead of us. The bar opened at 1600 & we waited 30 min before getting in. The venue is not large & can only hold 25 people so that explains the wait. The mixologist started us off with a pleasant & flavorful fruit flavored eye shot. It was very tasty. Afterwards he asked each of us what kind of flavors we like & if we have any specific preferences to certain liquors. It is best to come in knowing exactly the type of flavor profile & type of spirits you enjoy do the mixologist can create a specific concoction that will suit your taste. I unfortunately am not a seasoned expert on liquors & flavors so I think it was my fault that my drink did not blow me away. I tasted my friend's cocktail & it was outstanding but she was very specific in what she liked. The drinks were beautifully presented & I would definitely return another time.
We were able to squeeze in on short notice for 2 & overall it was nice but nothing worth waiting super long for. We were sat in the tiny little side room with 1 other pair of people which feels naturally a little awkward given the already small main room but the well curated playlist helped settle the vibe. The whole no menu questionnaire style drink selection concept is cool & all the cocktails taste nice, but ultimately feels like tasting different flavored premade juices that takes some of the fun out of cocktail ordering.
The Cloakroom Bar is a delightful speak-easy within walking distance to Downtown Montreal hotels.
As we walked in the old brownstone entrance, we found ourselves staring at a closed suit shop. Magically, a tall black-clad man appeared from nowhere & ushered us into a dimly lit cozy room teeming with mixologists shaking up delicious concoctions determined by your favorite liquor & flavor profiles, & the bartenders' imagination.🍸 Excellent service & cocktails!
Atmosphere: 9/10
Tucked behind a tailor shop in Montreal's Golden Square Mile, this speakeasy delivers an upscale & intimate experience. The small mirrored room cleverly feels larger than it is, anchored by an impressive backbar & a mix of bar stools & rear tables. The suit tailor-speakeasy concept places this bar in the same league as Dandy Room (Beijing) & Taylor Adam (Singapore). The overall layout even evokes Opium BKK in Bangkok. Music sits at a perfect volume for conversation.
Drinks: 9/10
Recommendation: Bartender's Choice
There is no menu; cocktails are crafted based on guest preferences. The bartenders excel at translating flavor requests into perfectly balanced drinks. High-quality glassware & coasters are used, though presentations are minimalistic, often without garnish. A welcome drink is offered upon arrival.
Service: 9/10
Water is served on arrival, & the team is attentive & friendly. Coat service is provided. Prices are slightly above average for Montreal, but the personalized service justifies the cost.
We waited around 20-30 mins on a saturday night. It is a very cool atmosphere inside with only 25 person capacity, cool music & not too loud. They ask about your taste & favorite flavors to bring a customized cocktail. We werent very impressed but overall not bad. Recommend this place for 1 round of drinks!
The concept of make your own cocktail only works if it's executed with an intrinsic sense of flavor balance, which personally, I have not seen to be the case. I'm sure they make the classics on a professional level. Also there was a lack of many ingredients which are not that rare to keep around in such high level establishments to be honest.
Intimate, oak-paneled speakeasy vibe, located behind a men's clothing shop. Doorman & bartender were professional & friendly. No menus - you give your desired alcohol & flavor profile & they make you a unique drink. I stuck with mezcal, first a fruity & then a savory direction. Both delicious! Best for small groups & quieter convos - you wouldn't want to get rowdy or loud in here, it's too small : )
Beautiful place with the right vibes for a night out & a fancy atmosphere. We felt welcome & were accommodated nicely. I have to say that the cocktails are not as good as expected. It was rather „simple" & did not have a special twist. My friends cocktail was very much ginger-forward & you could not taste more flavors. My drink was good, but quite ‚regular'. As some other reviews say: they make classic cocktails with really just a light spin to it.
Very much enjoyed the experience here. The menu-less experience is a particular plus for me, & the bartenders deliver. Lots of complex flavors well balanced against each other.
Delicious cocktails, well balanced & lot of flavors. Not boozy. Love there is no menu & you said what you want, size, main alcohol, floral, etc. Love to go to this place !
