It's not fully developed & has a way to go for sure. Cloakroom is the far & away champion. Great intimate feel. Smart engaging staff. Solid spirit selection. I could disappear in there happily on the regular.
The Cloakroom Cocktail Bar offers a unique, personalized experience-there's no menu. Instead, the bartender chats with you about your tastes & mood, then crafts a custom cocktail just for you. An intimate, elegant spot that turns a drink into an experience.
An excellent place for a customized cocktail. I loved the intimate atmosphere.
However, it's definitely on the pricier side considering the low amount of alcohol.
For reference, I've waited 40 minutes to get inside at around 7 PM on a Saturday.
We were excited to visit, we arrived at around 10:30 pm & waited in line for about 30-40 minutes. The line moves fairly fast. Once inside, they have a coat check & the space is intimate & seats about 30ish people. We found the bar seating to be more fun. We got 2 cocktails each & paid 118 Canadian dollars (tip included). If you're looking for a different bar experience & don't mind shelling out for a few crafted cocktails, then I highly recommend this spot!
The cocktails here are objectively great & I understand exactly why this place made the'best bar' lists-the no menu shtick, clean minimalist vibe of the space & cocktails, & polished service lend themselves naturally to those kind of upper crust rankings. The bartenders who discuss your preferences in order to select cocktails are efficient, almost to a fault, to the point that I felt a little boxed in. I appreciate the difficulty of the no menu concept & that you have to distill folks' tastes down into convenient boxes, but'spirit forward gin' doesn't inherently mean Negroni or martini, so I was a little surprised by the rigidity of the drink planning conversation. I can't help but compare it to another small but well known'no menu' bar in town, where my drink-planning conversation was much more organic. Yes, that bartender talked about his own personal favorites & ingredients he was experimenting with & thus placed himself into the conversation more, but it felt much more intimate & personal that way & I've got to say that I preferred that experience to Cloakroom's more sanitized one. That being said, I did end up with 2 delicious drinks at Cloakroom (plus the welcome drink-a really nice touch), but there was nothing else particularly memorable about the experience. The drinks are so balanced (again, objectively great), but there's nothing to make you say'wow'-no surprising moment in the drink, no charming garnish, & those small moments are what make a drink truly memorable in my eyes, & that's missing here. Sometimes I think this is a fault of being a part of the elite list of'the best'-is some bit of character (maybe even some playfulness) lost?
A hidden gen in the heart of Montréal. Perfectly bilingual staff offering impeccable cocktails, intimate ambiance & top-tier service. We particularily enjoyed chatting with other cocktail lovers sitting around us! The only hiccup we encountered was that we noticed someone had taken our brand new umbrella from the entrance once we departed. Something to keep in mind.
A very unique experience.
No menu. You simply tell them what you like & they have a decision tree about what drink to make.
Through talking with the bartender, I learned of a couple new drink ideas.
Great service, intimate atmosphere, well designed drinks. You won't be disappointed.
Atmosphere: 9/10
Tucked behind a tailor shop in Montreal's Golden Square Mile, this speakeasy delivers an upscale & intimate experience. The small mirrored room cleverly feels larger than it is, anchored by an impressive backbar & a mix of bar stools & rear tables. The suit tailor-speakeasy concept places this bar in the same league as Dandy Room (Beijing) & Taylor Adam (Singapore). The overall layout even evokes Opium BKK in Bangkok. Music sits at a perfect volume for conversation.

Recommendation: Bartender's Choice
There is no menu; cocktails are crafted based on guest preferences. The bartenders excel at translating flavor requests into perfectly balanced drinks. High-quality glassware & coasters are used, though presentations are minimalistic, often without garnish. A welcome drink is offered upon arrival.
Service: 9/10
Water is served on arrival, & the team is attentive & friendly. Coat service is provided. Prices are slightly above average for Montreal, but the personalized service justifies the cost.
Intimate, oak-paneled speakeasy vibe, located behind a men's clothing shop. Doorman & bartender were professional & friendly. No menus - you give your desired alcohol & flavor profile & they make you a unique drink. I stuck with mezcal, first a fruity & then a savory direction. Both delicious! Best for small groups & quieter convos - you wouldn't want to get rowdy or loud in here, it's too small : )
Still Great, But Less Personal
Cloakroom Bar remains a top-tier speakeasy in Montreal, offering an intimate & exclusive cocktail experience. The hidden entrance & tiny space add to its charm, making every visit feel special.
The cocktails are still expertly crafted, but the experience feels less personalized than before. Previously, bartenders engaged in a deep conversation to tailor your drink; now, they ask three quick questions & get to work. The quality is still there, but the magic of true customization feels a bit diminished.
Still worth a visit, but longtime fans might notice the difference.
Very small, intimate bar with no menu - each bartender will make custom drinks depending on what you like or are craving. My advice: know what liquors, flavours & cocktails you enjoy (& don't) for the best experience.
This place has got to be one of the best bar experiences I've had. My friend & I went for a drink to catch up & we're looking for speak easy vibes. The atmosphere is perfect, giving a great & intimate ambiance. It is menu-less, so they craft each drink to your preferences. I believe each of our drinks were around $20 which was well worth the quality & detail put into each one.
Wow, what a great experience. There's no menu, you just kind of give them the vibe you're looking for & they make you something invariably amazing. We tried a bunch of different drinks & everything was fantastic. They also have these nice intimate little alcoves for two couples where you can meet & chat with folks. & the service is fantastic, super attentive & friendly. Prices are also less than you'd expect from a place like this.
My favourite bar in the city. Bit of a wait so come early. No menus. Just great service & great vibes. Very intimate setting. Drinks are well crafted with heavy pours.
The bar is a speak easy located next to a men's clothing store. Very charming & intimate place. Their whole deal is craft cocktails & vintage spirits. I'll always remember this place since it was the first time I tried a glass of pappy. Otherwise, the other cocktails were fantastic & unique (they make the cocktail varriations to suit the customer, so your best bet is to tell them what you like & leave it up to them. Guaranteed theyll do a good job at matching tastes). The place was very small. We got there very early (we were the first customers in the place) & it was nice & quiet. But maybe half an hour later, the place was packed & loud (it was 1700 & there was a lady who very likely subscribes to the adage "its five o'clock somewhere"), making it a little uncomfortable & difficult to have an conversation. Certain things were a little pricey due to the whole vintage spirits angle, but if it wasnt for the pappy, probably wouldnt have been so bad. Overall fantastic experience. Would definitely come again.
The cloakroom is one of our favorite spots we've been to for cocktails! We love the intimate, speakeasy vibe with quality drinks. There is not a menu here, you just describe things you like & they get creative in making the drink. This place was so good that we actually stopped by twice while we were in town! All of the staff was amazing, shout out to Jay for helping us both nights we were there & creating a great experience for us!
