Thomas made our night at this gem of a speakeasy in Vieux Montreal unforgettable. From the start, he was warm, welcoming & incredibly knowledgeable. After just a few questions, he served up a selection of Mezcals & Tequilas that were unique & perfectly selected.
What truly stood out was his attentiveness & genuine personality & knowlege of his craft.
He elevated the entire experience.
I would go back in a heartbeat specifically because of his service. If you get a seat at his hard to find bar, you're in for something special & unforgettable.

Speakeasy style basement bar under a glow of red lights. Super cool. These were the best tequila drinks we've ever had. Try the old fashioned style one infused with duck fat from Bonaparte across the street.
Hidden cocktail bar, lots of sofa/lounge seating. Mezcal specialties, & I enjoyed my mango/passionfruit cocktail.
$4 coat check was deeply annoying. Music choice was not for me.
Loved this bar & the lighting. 1920s flair. They have tequila flights, & tequila that tastes like wine. Amazing atmosphere & intimate. Couch seating, & you're still able to hear & enjoy the conversations. Only downside is limited phone service due to it being downstairs.
Great little hidden cocktail bar. We came across this spot & decided to stop in for a drink. We sat up at the bar & Shelby was our bartender, he was extremely knowledgeable & friendly. He gave us the idea to do a tequila tasting which we opted for. Shelby put together a tasting flight with different citruses, salts & even crickets that go well with the tequilas. We had an amazing experience & will for sure return when we are back in Montreal.
Had the best spicy margarita of all time here. Talk with the doorman, go behind a painting & down some stairs to this bar with amazing cocktails & allegedly the largest offering of mezcals in Canada. Hope to come back someday for a mezcal flight!
During our research os speakeasy's in Montréal, Clandestino popped up.Gee,a tequila bar, it's automatically on the list.
Night 1was Monday. Found some comfy seating & let's look at the menu. Shelby came over & walked us through it, explaining it in detail & answering all our questions. We choose a Cocolada, Passion Amarga & Maestro. They looked amazing & tasted even better. Next round we up'd his expertise. Wanted a sipping extra anejo & Blanco. He brought over 3 of each. He talked about them & let us sniff them. The Blanco's we have had before so he brought over another one - Fortaleza Still Strength. Never heard of it, let's give it a try. My friend got the EA & me the Blanco. Both were excellent!! We got another round just to make sure we really liked them - & we did.
Night 2 was Thursday & got there after 11. Placed was packed but service was spot on. Got 2 seats & a Passion Amarga & a Vaso Caliente. The Vaso is a marg but no marg I have ever had. Refreshing, light & smooth. Shelby recognized us ftom Monday & welcomed back. Only 1 drink tonight.
Night 3 (YES it is that good!) was Saturday night. Sat at the bar (only 5 seats) & got our regular order. Got the drinks & William came over to check on us. I said'3rd time is just as good as the other 2'. He gave a big smile & welcomed us back. Next to me with his back to us was Shelby. With our next round, William offered some suggestions & Shelby jumped in. I love hearing why people love a brand & they LOVE tequila. Next round I tried the Cafe Borracho which has beets in it - say what?? Another fantastic work of art. William talked about their method of making their marg mix using centrifuging & chemistry to make it crystal clear & have a clean, bright taste. My mind is blown, incredible. Wish I could get some at my house.
Such a GREAT experience with Shelby & William. You have fans in CT & will.pass on your place to our friends. We rarely visit a place more than once on vacation but this place is special.

A beautifully hidden gem!
I was excited to try this speakeasy bar, & it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was unique & intimate, making it a perfect spot for a special night out.
The bartender was incredibly knowledgeable & offered thoughtful recommendations. While I don't have much experience with tequila or mezcal, I genuinely enjoyed trying their curated selections-it was a great introduction to both. I'd definitely come back!
This place is a once in a lifetime experience. I was a bartender in a previous life & was completely mesmerized by this place. These are chemists in here granting wishes & making dreams come true beyond your wildest imagination. Please allow them to wow you with their gifts… Legends… nothing else can describe their skillls but that word.
My friends from out of town & I really enjoyed this intimate speakeasy. All the drinks were good. My favorite was the colada with curry based horchata (sounds funny but sooo worth it). The bartender/owner was kind & easy to talk to. Music was also great.
Beautiful bar in old Montreal. Their drink selection was amazing. As a fan of mezcal & tequila, they definitely know how to prepare a drink. The staff was friendly & fun to speak with. I am amazed at the drinks they served; you can tell the amount of preparation & dedication they pour into their menu. Most definitely will come back again on my next trip to Montreal. Space is intimate & welcoming.
Le Clandestin is my absolute favorite speakeasy in the Old Port! The decor & ambiance are so dimly lit, mysterious, & intimate-you truly feel like time stops! The selection of tequila & cocktails? Just wow, wow, wow! The service is super professional, & the bartenders are absolutely top-notch. It's the perfect spot for a post-dinner cocktail, whether you're on a date or out with friends.
Our first visit at Clandestino was nothing short of stellar. There was clearly attention to service. We ordered a Mezcal flight, & we went on a tasting trip even if we weren't connoisseurs; the barman/owner came over & explained each Mezcal we tasted with enough detail to tickle our curiosity. Each of them were remarkable & it was such an amazing experience. I recommend 100%
