Cinéma Moderne se présente comme une salle intime et chaleureuse qui attire les cinéphiles grâce à une programmation originale de répertoire et de cinéma indépendant, parfois enrichie de rétrospectives, et à une ambiance conviviale avec un bar et un café où l'on peut prendre une boisson avant ou après la séance; les présentations brèves du personnel apportent une touche de personnalité et la sélection est souvent saluée pour sa qualité et son côté unique, favorisant une expérience propice à découvrir des films peu diffusés et des talents émergents, avec des indications claires sur les options audio et de sous-titrage. Des points moins favorables reviennent toutefois, comme des sièges inconfortables et des tarifs du bar jugés élevés, ainsi qu'une politique d'annulation sans remboursement dans certains cas; la salle étant petite, il faut souvent réserver à l'avance et plusieurs observations mentionnent aussi une expérience parfois ponctuée de nuisances ou de soucis mineurs, mais l'ensemble est perçu comme une étape chaleureuse et inspirante pour les amateurs de cinema d'auteur et pour les soirées entre amis.
Reminds one of the good old days of independent cinema theatres before the 1990s. Excellent repertoire & small, cosy hall. Particularly appreciated are the mini introductions to each film made by staff - super brief but they add a sense of personality.
It's great that they have a bar & mini cafe as well, & I would be happy to support it more if only the prices there were even somewhat more reasonable & friendly. The cocktails are painfully more expensive for what you get than even at fancy cocktail bars & something like a cortado is up to two dollars more than at any cafe. Yes, it's a premium offering & gives patrons somewhere to sit & wait for a movie but it leaves a sense of having been squeezed that taints an another highly positive experience there.
My first time here was to see Perfect Blue. Small & cozy place. The people working here are kind & even though I've seen the movie before & knew what to expect, I appreciate that they took the time to give a trigger warning in French & English before the film. It's a pretty intense film & not everyone is prepared for how heavy it becomes.
Theatre was very clean which I appreciate. My only issue is with the seats. Not super comfortable, & not much support. But I read in another review that's a WIP, so I'm glad they're working on that to ensure guests have a great experience :)

It was a very cozy & nice cinema with bar. The IPA was awesome! & we enjoyed the outdoor seating while waiting for the movie to start! Just one thing downside, we didn't like was there were some bugs inside the theater room, hovering around our food, & we think we might've eaten some with our popcorn. Also the chairs are a bit crowded & don't have good neck support. Other than those, it was a great experience!
I love this place. The smell of coffee during a movie for me > way better than those big cinema places. I also love that i can experience' old' movies on a big screen for the first time, like Princess Mononoke in Japanese ! Super cool. The employees are always nice too. The latte is pretty decent too. Popcorn was good last time I went
I had been looking forward to going back to Cinema Moderne after a few years. The movie we went to see was great, & this was not a surprise because they have a great film selection. Unfortunately, my experience was soured as, two key elements of movie going were lacking. There was no popcorn & no air conditioning, which because it was a Summer day, upon entering the theatre it just smelled like sweat. -- J'avais hâte de retourner au Cinéma Moderne après quelques années. La film qui nous sommes allés voir était excellent, & ce n'était pas une surprise car ils ont une bonne sélection de films. Malheureusement, mon expérience a été gâchée par l'absence de deux éléments clés d'une cinéma. Il n'y avait pas de pop-corn & pas d'air conditionné. Comme c'était un jour d'été, en entrant dans la salle ça sentait la sueur. En tant que cinéma indépendant, je souhaite qu'il réussisse, c'est pourquoi je n'ai pas donné trois étoiles.
This is a very good theater to see movies that disappear from the mainstream movie houses downtown too soon or others that don't get shown anywhere else. It's a relatively small place but the seats are comfortable. Also there is a good variety of snack food, sandwiches & beer as well as popcorn.
Imagine going to a theater & ordering a drink that comes in a glass, & a popcorn that comes in a stainless steel bowl. Then you get to sit in a theater with your pal & watch a well projected, good sounding movie.

Great ambiance, love the cafe & bistro. Perfect for meeting your friends & chatting before the movie. & no stress cause you can bring it all in with you to watch the movie. A lovely gem for the plateau/mile end area.
I really love this theater! They always play amazing movies-some modern & a lot from the past. They have a little bar & cafe inside. It's not a huge theater, so it's a nice experience. Compared to the Cineplex, Check out the listing & go check it out if you're a movie lover. You'd like it here.
Really dope little cinema with a great selection of films! Has a cute bar with great drinks that you can take into the movie. First 1-3 rows a bit uncomfortable & the staff wasn't super friendly that night but maybe also just had a ruff day. Would recommend definitely!

I have been in town for less than a year, & this little place is my favorite comfy & artsy spot in town. They screen top-notch independent movies with a great sense of variety. Def recommend!
