L'on me dit''oui oui ça s'envient.
We were excited to have some peruvian cuisine getting there but we had the surprise that their cuisine has'a Chinese twist'. Most of the menu is made of Chinese style pork, or fried chicken. They only have two or three fish options on the menu, we choose the starter ceviche (which was really good), the other'ceviche' was made of Chinese style cooked pork. I'm not an expert but it really didn't feel like we were eating a ceviche, it wasn't bad but if we wanted Chinese food we would have walked a few blocks away to China Town & would have paid our dinner for much less. The beef dish we had was ridiculously small & pricey. The quantities are ridiculously small, which is why they encourage you to select 3 to 5 dish for 2 persons to share. (But the price is the same as an average full dish you could get somewhere else). Disappointing. Our server was nice though!
I had a great time at this Peruvian place in Montreal! Honestly, what a gem. The food is made in front of your eyes & the ceviche & tiradito are fresh & full of flavour. All the dishes were fantastic & I found the service to be at a great pace & very friendly. The salmon ceviche was my favourite but honestly you can't ho wrong with any option!

The artistry of the food was amazing, & the vibe of the restaurant hit all the right spots. The food, however, fell a bit flat. The dishes were too heavy on soy sauce (Siu mai dumplings) & the ceviche was to lemony, & the other flavours were overpowered by it. The scallops looked amazing, but once again the taste wasn't as good as the look of it. The dragon fruit drink was delicious, as was the cafecito. I'd definitely come back for the drinks & the vibe, but not necessarily for the food which looks amazing, but tastes only ok.
This is a pretty good fusion restaurant with some standout dishes.
For appetizers, we ordered the combo anticuchos, daily cones, & ceviche. The combo anticuchos were excellent-$28 for four skewers, & each type of meat was grilled to perfection with great flavor balance. The grilled mushrooms had a slightly sweet taste, which was an interesting touch.
The daily cones, however, were underwhelming. The cones weren't particularly crispy, & we tried all three flavors, but none of them stood out. The octopus one had a strange taste.
The ceviche was absolutely amazing-super fresh, with tender fish & a bright, citrusy kick that made it incredibly refreshing. Definitely a must-order for next time!
For the main course, we had the Duckitos. It's not a traditional Peking duck, but it came with a sweet & spicy dipping sauce, ginger strips, & pickled radish, all of which complemented the dish beautifully. The only downside was that a few pieces of duck weren't properly deboned, which could be a safety issue.
For dessert, we followed our server's recommendation & got the corn cake. I'm pretty sure it was made fresh to order because we waited at least 10 minutes-but it was worth it. The cake was soft, fragrant, & steaming hot, perfectly paired with ice cream. No one could say no to that.
As for drinks, the Marauchita was the better choice-fruitier & more refreshing overall.
A solid spot with some real highlights. Would definitely come back for the ceviche & corn cake!
Food is amazing; the flavor is very strong & distinctive. Ceviche, skewers, & pastel choclo (dessert) are the highlights of our meal. Peruvian x Chinese is such an impressive combo. Service & ambiance are great. It's definitely worth a try.
The only negative about my experience at Chifa was that I was enjoying the food so much, I forgot to take pictures of most of it! We reserved for 20 people for a surprise party, & they accommodated us perfectly in a private section. It was exactly what we needed, & the whole setup felt seamless.
Now, let's talk about the food-it was absolutely delicious. Every single dish was on point. We went with the formula option, which allowed us to try a bit of everything. In total, we had around seven different dishes, & every single one was fresh, perfectly seasoned, & bursting with flavor. Honestly, I can't even pick a favorite because they were all so good, but if I *had* to, the fried chicken was a standout (my personal'coup de coeur'). The mushroom skewers were unbelievable, & the ceviche with its sauce was next level.
The service was also amazing-friendly, fast, & super attentive, even with such a large group. The food came out quickly, & the staff made sure everything was running smoothly. From start to finish, it was an amazing experience.
If you're looking for a spot with incredible food & great service, Chifa is a no-brainer. 5 stars, hands down. I'll definitely be back!
